The parachute study is actually a wonderful piece of art because it demonstrates so succinctly the kind of situation where randomized controlled trials are not the gold standard of evidence, and in fact reach misleading conclusions.
Because you can't recruit people to willingly jump out of mid-flight passenger planes for science, you redesign the study to engineer a scenario where the risk to the control group is minimsed. The plane is landed.
And then, because you've removed the main reason to use a parachute, you find that parachutes have "no effect" on mortality or injury.
The constraints of performing an ethical RCT guarantee this result. A result that we obviously know is dangerously wrong to extrapolate to the real-life uses of parachutes.
Now here's the thing: The people insisting that "evidence-based medicine" says we need RCTs of trans healthcare know this is what they're doing. It's extremely well established that you can abuse these "standards" to engineer incorrect results.
SEGM and their ilk are doing this on purpose because they know it's an effective way to dress up science denial in a veneer of scientific rigor.
I cant believe this tweet is how I find out
now all the things you guys have told me about american high schools are starting to make sense
holy shit.
You're not really supposed to say it this way, because its considered crass, but here in the US children are culturally and legally considered essentially the property of their parents.
Note that its considered more crass to point this out than it is to treat children as property in the first place.
one of LB's civilian fits! it's Also all-rubber i just dont have the focus to shade this one
i locked in and shaded it while tweaking a few details!
Late for an appointment this morning because my beautiful son child stole a wrapped and bagged bologna sandwich containing roughly 300% his maximum safe sodium intake out of the lunch box in my backpack while I was on the shitter and refused to spit it out
⬆️ Documented evidence of my sweet and perfect and beautiful firstborn son furiously defending his hard-won right to shit his brains out
:3 nessie you are so cool and as an aspiring conservationist I really love how you communicate such serious topics.
But I didn't know you also did costume design! It's so cool, and I love seeing someone who can be a scientist and an artist at the same time. Do you have a current favorite project you are working on?
My rosy maple moth costume I’m wearing to Dashcon 2 next weekend :) I find a lot of joy in getting to combine art and science, so it was wonderful to get to design and make a costume based on a literal bug. There was a lot of double checking reference images of actual rosy maple moths when I made the wings.
The costume itself is also a part of an actual research study I’m running at the con, looking at different factors that impact education in nontraditional environments.
learned today that one of the hosts of a podcast I occasionally listen to was in the epstein files because of an incident wherein she was being sexually harassed/abused by a man who worked in her field -> she created a google doc for other women in said field to anonymously submit the names of men who had harassed/abused them -> one of these men sued for her for defamation even though she didn’t know him & didn’t even know who his victim was -> he couldn’t afford lawyers & reached out to epstein for funding -> epstein gave it to him -> after 5 years she was forced into a settlement & had to pay him over $100k. the way these predatory men find solidarity with each other is so so so profoundly evil
anddd that's all of them! for now anyway. what would you like to order?
Tumblr out there changing the world
now that the g6 leak has been confirmed real, and we have some details from the panel, i have to say… i don’t really agree with the general fandom’s distaste towards this generation. i understand everyone’s grievances but overall i think it sounds cute and lighthearted with a pretty art style (so far) and that’s fine with me. i have kind of known this generation would be a g4 reboot since g5 came out so i don’t really care all that much, plus i really disliked g5 so it can’t be much worse than that for me. of course i wouldve preferred ALL the mane 6 being there but the “camp cutie mark” thing kinda clued me in a while ago that the new gen probably wouldn’t include all the main characters from any gen. overall i think i’ve just been prepared for this direction for a long time lol.
even if it ends up sucking, i can rewatch my beloved g4 anytime i want. the new designs are super cute too, imo. they look like tasteful fan redesigns to me lol. so if anything it’s just some nice new designs for a few of my beloved characters and an opportunity for cute new merch
also, the new twilight render is ultra cute, look at her!
This comment was left on a post about making the most of the Libby app. "Excessive use of generous lending policies" is the most absurd phrase I've ever seen anyone use to discuss libraries.

Necessary and sufficient
Adding a second lock was not necessary.
Understanding the difference between necessary and sufficient is necessary, but not sufficient to earn a math degree.
Part 2
Gladly!
A bit more complicated, but sure!
Jurassic Park was a massive part of my childhood and is still a big part of my life today. The news I heard this morning was genuinely heartbreaking. Sam Neill and Alan Grant will always hold a special place in my heart. Rest in peace Sam Neill, and my deepest condolences to his family.
"Stigmatized Property" (2026, short trad comic)
So your recent Lance posts have made me go down the bulbapedia rabbit hole, and i didn't realise just how deep the cape obsession ran
His dragon wings </3
Not even a therian reach if you take his LGPE design into account. Text above the Dragonite says "The design is inspired by dragon wings". And yes I Will give him this fit eventually
(would that they give him more character traits instead of pushing the handful that were written over 20 years ago...)
