Even IF Asia made no significant global, historical, fashionable, religious, philosophical, artistic, linguistic, medicinal, cultural, etc. contributions, our basis for respect shouldn't be founded on what WE can provide. This is partially why the focusing on aesthetics or repeating hollow sentiments like "Asians don't raisin" don't do it for me. It's a nice compliment in a society obsessed with beauty/anti-aging and it is true in many ways, but it takes centuries of aforementioned culture and contributions to distill them down to its most superficial level and to only be valued by external (white) approval. Would you wholeheartedly engage with an Asian person who didn't follow the model minority myth? Who is not perfectly calm or wise and has a temper they're willing to act on? Who is not always the most eloquent or the most patient? Who isn't perfectly knowledgable about every aspect of their culture? Who is a person with flaws that you can't easily brush off?
