me: *saying "WHAT?" seven times to someone giving me coherent face-to-face verbal directions*
also me: *hears a faint noise and randomly lifts head like a deer* hey did u guys hear that??? wtf how could you not hear it-
Gotta love an ADHD/Autism solidarity post
Some thoughts on trauma, healing, and self-forgiveness.
Your responses to past traumas are not you. You are more than the result of abuse. You are slowly healing. It hurts because the damage was real and you're recovering from that.
One of my least favorite mental illness things is "hungry but dont feel like eating" and its companions "hungry but all the food in the house is Illegal," "hungry but can't make anything," and "hungry, want to eat, but why bother"
Also the adhd friend “hungry but unaware of hunger because current activity is too captivating”
Also autism/sensory processing disorder thing "hungry but unaware of hunger because can't process body sensations"
Then the flip side when you finally realize u r hungry and u end up eating a massive amount of whatever the first thing you find is. Which makes you feel even worse cuz the first and easiest things to find are like junk food that can and will make you feel like shit
It’s okay if you thought you were over it but it hits you all over again.
It’s okay to fall apart even after you thought you had it under control.
You are not weak. Healing is messy. And there is no timeline for healing.
Being abused can seriously affect your ability to distinguish between “not obviously pleased” and “obviously displeased” because abusers go from Neutral to Hostile for absolutely no discernible reason, and eventually you start worrying that everyone is going to be like that and you start feeling this urge to make absolutely sure that the people you actually care about aren’t mad or upset, because to you, “there’s no evidence that they’re not angry” is the same as “there’s evidence that they are angry”

giving love to trauma survivors whose trauma made them harder, detached and insensitive.
giving love to trauma survivors whose trauma made them friendlier, more open and loud.
giving love to trauma survivors whose trauma made them paranoid and aggressive.
giving love to trauma survivors whose trauma made them kinder, softer and more sensitive.
giving love to trauma survivors whose trauma made them lose guilt, shame, or empathy.
giving love to trauma survivors whose trauma made them gain more guilt, shame, or empathy.
you are all valid.
"its okay that person does [weird thing] because they have [condition]" no its okay that they do the weird thing because its not hurting anyone and sometimes people just do things you might think are weird and it doesn't have to be explained
Your trauma is valid even if no one knows about it but you.
I grieve for younger me.
You deserved better and you really didn’t know.
