“what the…?”
okay, so it isn’t every day that you get dragged from your…average life as a starting college student and dropped into some weird city with a bunch of people who all look as if they’d get along famously with drakken. seriously, if the whole abduction thing wasn’t enough of a shock, the fashion crimes were. but it wasn’t as if that was her main concern. gosh, no. she wasn’t that shallow, well at least she hoped she wasn’t. she was panicking however, her kimmunicator failing do little more than open and close and then reopen its camera application over and over. whether she wanted to admit or not, she was lost and pretty much the most confused she’d ever been. experiment? scientists? sounded like a bad tv show to be honest. or at least the kind ron would know about.
standing around wasn’t doing much for her, but even as she looked into the streets of…sector one, she thought, she really didn’t know whether the idea of barging into the crowd was a good idea or not. confident cheerleader? more like terrified wreck. she had a million questions to ask but the answers all seemed so difficult to obtain. again she tried to boot up the kimmunicator. she was beginning to wish she’d paid more attention to how wade put these things together since the whole system seemed stuck on ‘annoying camera’ mode. several accidental selfies were taken as she attempted to pry the thing apart but, all efforts were wasted.
although she heavily doubted the idea, kim clung to the slim possibility that the whole thing was just a joke. it seemed…practical, right? huge city, crazy scientists? hundreds of people in weird…costumes? had to be fake. inhaling a deep breath, she plucked up the courage to approach someone, school-girl smile wide and ever present as she asked her questions as calmly as she could. there was no such thing as being too pleasant, was there? “hey, so uhh, i was just wondering… when does this show stop? like, when do they stop filming and explain what’s really happening here? that’s what this is right? some lame reality tv show? like big brother but, ya know, a city?”
Eddward is absolutely fascinated with some of the technological advances put into place in this city. Take sector oo1, for example. Somehow—be it by use of a temporal vortex, holograms, or that this entire city is merely a construct by the citizen's collective imaginations—the buildings never appear to have a specific location. Rather, they're constantly shifting in space as the minutes pass. The boy could be taking samples from the red brick lining a building one minute and, suddenly, he discovers that the red brick is not red brick, but in fact gray concrete. And the building is completely altered.
"This is an anomaly I'm not sure I can crack with mere sampling. Plus it's hard to get decent samples when the universe seems determined to contaminate the variables."
He could probably, with enough hard work and determination, separate the particles into appropriate receptacles. But if he wants to examine this situation in a timely manner, he simply doesn't have the hours necessary to do so. Perhaps this endeavor is one he must abandon for now...
He hears a voice behind him, and it jolts him out of his thoughts. When he turns around to meet eyes with an older woman, he initially blushes, but quickly shakes it off. She's far too old for him.
"Greetings and salutations! I'm... not sure what you mean by 'lame reality TV show', but I don't believe we're part of one! Rather, this city was constructed as a setting for a social experiment. However, with how many variables that are present—that is, how many citizens they've acquired—I'm beginning to question the legitimacy of the science behind the experiment."
