There were literal white supremacists marching in Washington DC on the 4th of July yesterday and somehow someone I know managed to drag leftist "purity testing Democrats" into it. My good bitch, if not wanting genocide is a purity test, What the Actual Fuck?

We told you dumb clucks that Kamala was going to lose because she wouldn't address her base's concerns, and guess what? She fuckin didn't. It's not the people's job to choose the candidate who sucks less, it's the candidate's job to present themselves as the one that wants to give the base what they want. it's not acknowledged enough that a lot of the sleep deprivation, a really big number, that is seen in children and teenagers is due to their parents. "my kid's up all night on their phone" and why exactly is that? because nighttime, the time when they're supposed to be sleeping, aka unconscious in bed, aka not causing you any trouble, aka unable to be immediately put to work by you, is so much of the time the only true "free time" they have. that's what it is. if the moment they step out of their room you give them something to do and berate them for breathing; if every moment they're in their room you're calling them out to do work, and then chiding them for trying to lock their door ... when is there a moment for them to just do what they want? to have fun? to be happy?

I know it's more nuanced than this but I think having a hard policy of thinking anyone who genuinely hates one group of queer people for their identity might as well hate all of us and thus I should block any queerphobic queer person I see can do a lot to save you from believing anything exclusionists say.

"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)

Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".

Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH

One correction:

The old lady is not in her home. She is at work. She's meant to be what in Italian is called "la portinaia", aka a cross between a doorwoman and cleaner of a residential building. She's in her small "office" space, at the entrance of the building, from where she can survey the coming and goings of the inhabitants. It's a job that has mostly disappeared, but is culturally very clear to us as having the connotation of "potentially gossipy, one-million-percent judgmental woman who sees everything that goes on in the apartment complex, knows everyone and their secrets, and has Strong Opinions™️".

In this case, thankfully, the Strong Opinion™️ is that those two men are ridiculous with their teeny tiny flag for ants.
