Lord of The Mysteries 'Original Klein Moretti is The Fool | Zhou Mingrui's Child' AU Continued
A baby whimpers in his crib, shifting within the confines of his blankets. The whimpers build up into sobbing as the baby's eyes shift in the room but he doesn't see the person he wants to see.
Fog curls outside the window of this small abode. The older child in the bed shifts, beginning to awaken at the noise, but something causes him to drift back down. The fog seeps into the room.
Right as the sobbing goes into full-blown crying as the baby weeps to be held by his brother or father or mother, a man - or rather, a god- steps out from the fog. He walks to the crib, cloak almost covering the whole room.
The Fool picks up the crying baby who, upon feeling arms holding him, stops crying. A soft humming, an ancient lullaby rises and falls quietly from the being's chest. Baby, Klein Moretti, coos, fingers waving, trying to touch his face. The Fool chuckles softly, smiling gently down at the baby.
His baby. A different name, a different time, a different face. But Zhou Mingrui would recognize His lost baby anywhere.
"My baby, my beautiful little sparrow," the Fool murmurs, nuzzling his face. Klein giggles, reaching for the fog and laughing as it twines and dances around his fingers. Zhou Mingrui places His finger against baby Klein's hand who immediately curls his fingers around it. "Welcome back, my baby."
His intuition whispers a warning. The Fool frowns, immediately clutching His baby closing to His chest, His cloak almost completely hiding him from sight. "No. I just got him."
He must stay here with his family. It whispers.
"I'm his family. He's my son," Zhou Mingrui argues. "Why should I leave him with strangers?"
A child cannot be raised in Sefirah Castle. And you cannot stop his fate.
The Fool shudders as impressions of what's to come press on him. "Please no," He whispers. "I just got him back." But He knows.
You can intervene when the trigger is pulled but you cannot stop it from being pulled, His Sight tells him.
The tears The Fool sheds that day as he reluctantly returns His baby to his crib and leaves, allowing the brother to awaken and tend to his newly screaming baby brother, would've made it to His Bible, had anybody witnessed his grieving. As it is, Zhou Mingrui can't even visit His baby.
Having been handed the mantle of Lord of Mysteries, there is no divine will to fight for Him but He does need to balance His divinity and humanity to avoid losing His humanity as a deity. At this point, His grief over losing His child had been enough to keep His humanity high. Eons He wept, so much so that His grief saturated His Bible and all His followers knew what He grieved for. And now He found His son again and He can't even raise him or stand beside Him. Can't stop his fate either.
Trembling and unable to watch another raise His baby, Zhou Mingrui goes back to sleep.
