These questions belong to a friend and I'm helping her to just write down my answer accordingly. This is purely my opinion and it could differ from one to another. I wanted to write one about Parkour but couldn't find the right time to really thought about it and having these questions laid out. PING!!
Part 1 â The meaning of parkour
Well to put in a very simple understanding term, it is getting from point A to point B in the fastest way possible. But of course itâs only 1/100 whatâs Parkour really about. Parkour covers the mind, the technique and the spiritual side of it. It is definitely not a sport but a discipline.
What is the purpose of Parkour?
The purpose of Parkour is simple is let us be human again where we were once dated years ago not the current state where we sit in the office and also to shape us to be a better person. To allow us to claim back what it was when we truly move.
What is the difference between Parkour and Free-running?
Well Parkour takes into a form towards more serious approach because what Parkour trains is the mind and body where it has a purpose in each movement while Freerunning is more towards artistic aspect of each movement, it puts in a more excited and fun moment while doing a movement which is executing flips in mid-air before landing.
Do you know about the origins of Parkour? If so, do share your thoughts; if not, skip this question.
Yes I do know about it, in fact I think everyone that wants to start Parkour need to have a slightest knowledge on the origins of Parkour. Some people said itâs Georges HĂ©bert, Raymond Belle or David Belle is the founder but it doesnât matter because these three important shapes to what we know as Parkour. Georges HĂ©bert is a French military and one day he was stationed at Africa and he was impressed to see their bodies are flexible, agile and skillful but all they have is their natural surroundings to help them. From there, he comes out with a module for the French military training where natural movement mostly takes form in the module. Then we have Raymond Belle who is French military firefighter and also practice the module of natural movement and happens to be the father towards David Belle. From there, David Belle picks up his dad teaching and slowly molds it into what we know now as Parkour.
What does parkour mean to you?
Woooaaaww.. My own definition of Parkour through my own interpretation is that Parkour helps people to see the world differently, to defy the norm of the society. It helps people to be happier and more lovable. Parkour is something you do but is not for yourself but for others, like a bigger cause. Parkour helps people to give more faith to themselves and to discover more about themselves in the process. You could never stop doing Parkour because everyone is just unique to its own because there are no rules and no competition. It talks to me about freedom, creativity, follow your own heart, have faith in yourself, love more and live freely. When I practice Parkour, I know myself more and my body more and my own limits and my fear. It became an important part of my life especially after encountering the person that left a deep impression in me early this year.
Part 2 â When it all began:
When and how did you hear about parkour?
Well, letâs just say I have puppy love with it around few years back during my college years and I think it was a video I saw in Youtube on urban ninja. I was fascinated by it because I love martial arts. From there, I do research about it and got to know the spirit of Parkour.
When did you get into it?
I have been in and out for it for quite some time but never really get serious till around mid-year. Now is like I have totally fallen deeply in love with it and decided to work through it.
How long have you been practicing parkour?
Puppy love â 2009, Liking it â 2011, Fall deeply in love â 2013
Did you learn it on your own it? or were you mentored? or both?
When I first started, I have people looking over me and from there I train on my own. Would probably say 30% I was monitored and then now is all alone. In a way, there is good and bad. Good thing is you learn to know your body more; you will concentrate more on your own training; you donât talk a lot because you are alone. Bad thing is you donât have people to judge you if you are able to make that jump or climb over it because sometime you know you can do it but just people reassuring it makes the more confident to execute it; you donât have anyone to monitor your technique and corrects you.
How has it affected your life?
It is playing a huge part in my life. It teaches me to be more humble, giving out more love, to be more concern towards your mates, to laugh more, to appreciate every moment I have spent and of course the obvious reason my body feels alive. It helps me to see the world where we have this strong love for Parkour everything else is put aside. Training is one aspect but when I train with other of my friends is just us having fun and to know them better other than just activity partners. Not only that, it helps me see the world as a child and not taking your life you live currently seriously. It is basically asking us to be human back that dated years ago where we actively live our life unlike now sitting in the office, giving weird glance towards someone who does something out of the ordinary. Now, I don't really care what others think, if I feel like dancing or singing on the streets I just do it. It is that moment that I enjoy every single second that matters. True, other sports can help you be less robotic but Parkour is just the thing I found out that I'm truly in love with it because of the people that inspired me, it involves your brain, coordination, your whole body and the community by itself. Everyone has a choice indeed, but I choose a parkour-approcahed life right now.
Part 3 â The lessons behind the story
Did you held any fear when doing parkour? If yes, have you faced it? If not, why not?
Definitely fear will be there always especially when you are trying things you have never done before. It is a way our brain telling us to protect our body. Some of the fears, I have already faced it but some Iâm still working on it.
What is/are the one/many best experience(s) you had when doing parkour?
I think the best experiences come when I go for a workshop or the annual jam because I get to meet my mates and just having fun together. But is the SG workshop that left me thinking about a lot of things and also we really come together as a family and from there on I just pick up my mind about Parkour and stick to it ever seen.
What is/are the one/many worst experience(s) you had when doing parkour
Worst experience? I never had one to be honest. Just that sometime guards come around and ask me to leave the ground because it is dangerous or I'm not using it like how others see it, I respect them and I leave it. Or perhaps just meeting people that are rude and have less respect towards others, these people are traceur/traceuse themselves. It loathes me but overall amazing journey so far and it will be more amazing next year around. Ohhh.. and sometimes when my old injury decided to just resurface, so probably injuries and injuries but old ones.
(I am hoping to get a similar answer to this part like:http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/a-guide-to-becoming-a-better-writer-15-practical-tips.html)
Errrmm... I'm not sure if I can come out with what you want based on the link but I'll try my best.
 A Guide to Become a Better Traceur/Traceuse
 1. Conditioning is Important
A lot of people when they just started, they want to do the moves they see on Youtube and that is where most injuries are formed because the body is not fully adapt to the new movement. Thus, conditioning is important because it helps to build up your strength needed to execute the required movement.
 2. Start slowly but be consistent/Commitment
We don't need to do it so fast because it really depends how much your body can take it from a sudden change of routine. There's no need to be 'I want to do this and that and this' when your body is clearly not ready for it. Slowly as you progress, you will notice you have build the strength you needed and the confidence gained from it. Other than that, if you intend to do Parkour for the rest of your life then feed your body with the right training regime.
 3. Eat clean and healthy
We train very frequent to build our body stronger and during those moments when we are not working out, our body is repairing all the tissue and muscle used. Thus, it is important to eat clean and healthy where most of our diet contained mostly on meat, veges and fruits. It will help with our overall performance when we eat the correct nutrition our body needs. This is not only lifestyle but a commitment for the whole life. I have slowly cut out on junk food, carbonated drinks and now off-limit for alcohol.
 4. Find the reason within your move
Anyone can falls in love with anything within a short period of time but not everyone can fall in love for a very long time without any reason to do so. So, I urge anyone that wants to stay in this field to figure out the reason why you move. Why you want to be involved in Parkour? I can assure you once you find that reason and it is strong enough, you yourself will be the driving force in your training where you don't need people to ask you for training or being told to workout. For me, I move to inspire others to move as well especially girls in Malaysia.
 5. Love your training mates
I won't say most but sometimes we are too caught in training that we have little time to social especially in big gathering or workshop. Everyone just want to try to do their own thing and just push beyond themselves. But for me, now I see it is to really go out and talk with people and to have that bond with others. You care about them like you care about your siblings or family, get to know them better and just basically laugh and talk more. You can train other times because a lot of people gathering in one place doesn't happen frequently.
 6. Train your mentality - Back to Basic
What I mean by training your mental aspect is where you take your time to understand the reason behind Parkour, the spirit and also the philosophy. Sometimes our brain need to refresh on this as we mainly focus on the technical side of Parkour. So once you understand this, I believe you can be a better traceuse/traceuse by living on its words and practicing it. It helps you shape your character and be a better person
I think I can't emphasize on this on how important to stay humble when you have walk a long journey in Parkour. It's not wrong to listen to the new ones and acknowledge it and accept it. Sometimes, veteran they think  they know everything and they refuse to open to more opinion and it can be changed from time to time. Besides, show the new ones how to move; it doesn't take much of your time from your training. We are family after all, make them feel welcome ;)
Sometimes when we are afraid we refuse to do it and then stops at it. That is fear and you can overcome it slowly. But what is not fear is where you push yourself too much that your body couldn't take it, this way you are harming yourself and could cloud the judgement of things you are able to do and not to do. This is very dangerous. So it is best to listen to your body, if it said no you can't do it, not now because you're in this condition. Accept it and work through it, don't force yourself  to do it because bad things could happened from there. Your body knows what you lack of and not. Thus, sometimes it's hard to know if fear is holding us or our body telling us no you're not ready yet.  But this of course, comes from experience and knowing your body fully.
How often does one need to âkeep upâ in parkour? If often, how does one do so? If rarely, why not?
Woooaaaww.. How often to keep up with it.. One has to be really dedicated in their training and you could train everyday. I train everyday in fact, depending on what I'm lacking at the point of time. One should train everyday and that is consistency!! But my training varies, sometimes  I do other activities to accompanied my Parkour journey such as sprint, jog, calisthenics, martial arts. Parkour demands every aspect of the sports, where you must be good in balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, mobility and etc.
Where is a good place/venue to practice parkour?
When you start seeing the world differently, actually you can practice Parkour virtually anywhere but my favourite place will be the playground or park.
If you could sum up some keywords to remember when practicing parkour, what would be good to keep in mind?
Listen to your bodyDon't confuse fear with inability to do itIt is always about yourselfSmile, Love, Talk is not always about training
