the brainrot of terfism really needs to be studied because it really is something that just consumes people. like there's definitely levels to it and all (and they're all bad, to be clear) but if you look into like the big name terfs, they either stop being terfs or they go insane.

like its becoming commonplace for them to publicly admit that their families have distanced themselves because they can't stop talking about how the scary trans people are ruining everything, or for them to side with actual nazis or pedophiles that just happen to also dislike trans people. or for self professed gay and/or feminist terfs to start advocating for policies that are directly hostile to them because its hostile to trans people too.

and like that's not even getting into the truly deep levels of brainrot when they start transvestigating everyone around them, including sometimes their own parents and themselves. like there are boards and online groups where they will unironically say that they think their parents are trans or had them transed without them knowing, and about how essentially every major celebrity is trans and hiding it.

like its such levels of insanity on par with q anon shit, and someone needs to start looking into that shit because something really does happen to the brain when terfism is entertained and you can't stop thinking that trans people are out to get you.

I think an important component of it is that, particularly for cis women who have been abused by men (and/or just. lived life in the patriarchy), the terf recruitment rabbit hole is fueled by trauma. Their trauma response is continually triggered and then those strong emotions are redirected onto trans people, keeping terfs in this insane, hypervigilant, irrational headspace that just eats you. Literally, it's like they're inducing emotional flashbacks and then just living in them. And then any challenge to the terf ideology starts to feel like both an invalidation of your trauma and like a moment where your are either reliving your trauma or under threat of reliving it. Not only does the truth become a threat to your core world view and interpretation of your experiences, it also becomes a real, physical threat to your body and to your feelings of safety. And anyone who agrees with you is promising to both validate your pain and to protect you. There's something about it that involves either hijacking or inducing a sort of runaway trauma response.

genuinely a lot of you need to sit the fuck down and think about whether you actually support transfeminine people or you're just chasers. cause a lot of this site's support seems to be "uwu fuck me big strong dommy mommy" "I want a sexy trans goth gf so bad" etc etc and it's so gross. like i dont think attraction the inherent problem here or anything but when every single post asking "do you actually support trans women/transfeminine ppl?" has some chucklefuck in the notes going "haha yeah, I support her ON TOP OF ME!" it gets really obvious that you do not actually know how to support them without sexualizing them. and that's. really incredibly not okay.

I've never felt more weak as a woman than I did when I was a terf. It's an ideology that basically works to convince every woman involved that we are just inherently weak and frail.

Throughout that time, and since I was never really out and open about it, it was my trans friends who made me feel strong, and NEVER the terfs, and I don't know how the hell I couldn't see that until recently.

Terfs don't want women to feel powerful, they want us to feel weaker than we are and beat us down until we subconsciously feel worthless so we can feel justified in our hate cult. It's so obvious looking back

sad how the outrage at lia thomas or imane khelif can be debunked by just Knowing Facts. and still bigotry persists.

i was talking to my dad yesterday about imane khelif and mentioned she wasn't a trans woman, which he did not even know because he thought she "looked like a trans woman" and should still potentially be excluded as a cis woman based on testosterone levels or whatever. as if most people are knowledgeable about the variations of intersexuality and can actually judge whether or not someone should be included in sports because they're intersex.

the root of the issue is not only racism+ misogyny against woc and intersexism (the spectre of it looming after caster semenya) but transmisogyny, and i looked up some data about lia thomas' performance to debunk my dad's claims that she was breaking records left and right. took two seconds. ultimately, the issue taken is with her appearance being considered not feminine enough and her transness.

it brings to mind That audre lorde quote. yknow. the one about shackles. transmisogyny reinforces misogyny against other degendered women. a form of misogyny cannot exist if you want to snuff out another.

people with more moderate trans friendly ideas are wary on the question of trans women's inclusion in women's sports, thinking it's unnecessary as sports are for the elite anyway and more important issues can be focused on, but the exclusion of trans women from women's sports is reflective of a deeper transmisogynistic mindset that must be fought at every direction it comes from. the idea that trans women are predators who invade "real" women's spaces to hurt them, or outdo them. there's not going to be a society without transmisogyny where trans women are excluded from women's sports, and if you don't believe that, then you're harbouring some brainworms yourself. you can work on that.

I think my mother's starting to figure out I don't agree with her anymore which should be interesting. She's a "terf" (or, she calls herself one but she's entirely the TE and none of the RF) and used to turn every conversation we'd have about anything into something to do with it. I could never talk to her normally because it would ALWAYS become some long rant about trans people. Still is, but I've been disagreeing with her more lately and trying to steer the conversation back to base and I think she's catching on. I hope she's very disappointed in me.

Bioessentialism (which is transphobic and also racist) is when you claim people are innately Biologically Determined to be either Good or Evil. That's nazi shit. just wanted to say i'm proud of you for getting out. ex radfem of 6 years, really deep in the community. went to meetups, known by first name, published in zines etc. it gets better. you get better. the fear does go away.

i made this post about cis girls because that’s who it often pertains to, but i’m going to be honest, if you aren’t discussing transmisogyny & approaching gender with a transfeminist lens in your politics, then it doesn’t matter how you identify, trans girls are not going to feel safe following you. i’ve had plenty problems with non-binary transmisogynists too. your identity is never going to be a stopgap for caring & doing the reading.
