Candle was once a ghost of a fair man with no name, who lived in E. Gadd's ghost collection. Suddenly, it was not long before King Boo strikes. During the chaos, he escaped from the professor's ghost collection and rushed away, but he didn't make it. King Boo dragged the ghost man to give him a role to maintain his primary goal. A wicked one.
Soon, the ghost man ended up in a lavish building called "The Last Resort". He knew that the King had other plans to shape his perfect portrait collection full of victims he lured and captured. Luckily, he didn't see him while he was working for a short period, until he made an idea to let out his thoughts through writing. After this, he discovered new ghosts to communicate during the visit. His first experience with the resort's most common ghosts later turned out to be a disaster, because they all existed to aid King Boo's goal.
That leaves the ghost man to hide everywhere in this haunted hotel. Anything coming out of his mind will be written in his own journal, including his moments with the professor. He never showed up in this place anywhere at all since Luigi's here, and he wasn't any good at getting rid of him. Suddenly, King Boo found him after weeks of residence without listening to his mission. As punishment for his incompetence, the king casted a curse on the ghost man where he will spend 20 years of life as a candle.
Shortly before having the will to talk to the king again, he had nothing around his limbless body to continue filling out his writing log. Without further ado, he hesitates to find Luigi for help.
After doing so, he tells him all of his own moments in the Last Resort for the ghost hunter to write down and complete Candle's writing log, making it a true story. But that leaves the ghosts to appear before Luigi after helping.
In the middle of the fight, Candle had no choice to protect him. He had enough of King Boo's abuse for ambition. As the ghosts are about to attack the ghost hunter, Candle sprung and shielded him, leaving all four common ghosts to directly possess him at once.
Finally, his memories are erased thanks to the eternal possession, and experienced a completely new identity.
