“Well if Toulouse is better than Paris, which I’m starting to believe it is, maybe that’s where I should go. It sounds like the better option.” She smiled at him, just watching how he lit up when he talked about Toulouse. It seemed like a really great place and if she ever got the chance to actually go to France, she was definitely making time to go there. “Their accents are weird? Oh I didn’t realize you were so judgey,” a small laugh slipped through her lips and she shook her head. “You haven’t? Maybe we should go together, that’d be a fun trip.”
“Paris is just dirty with so many tourists... Toulouse is kind of a tourist area too but not nearly as bad.” Elijah pointed out, realizing he hadn’t really stopped talking about his hometown this whole time. “Sorry if I’m boring you. Feel free to let me know.” Elijah told her, wanting to make sure she knew it was okay to tell him to shut up. “It’s like... it’s like... rougher than the French accents... and yeah, that would be great. Book off a week or two and I’ll go back with you.”

“Maybe, yeah. She knew my cousin but it seems like everyone knows Emmy - whenever I mention her, people know who I’m talking about.” Elijah admitted. That wasn’t unheard of at home, but his school was small. “It’s really that strict?” He didn’t want to think he’d make a bunch of friends, and then have them abandon him when the school year started. “Sure, if you really want. They’re not really in any art galleries here, just my room, but once September starts they’ll be in the art room.”
“She’s a Plastic, of course they know her. She’s basically royalty. Scary and mean but also beautiful and well respected around here.” Stephanie explained to him. “Yeah. I try to just proceed with caution. I don’t have it in me to be mean. I just… I don’t.” She sighed, “Well I’d love to look at them. If you don’t mind.”
"She's not scary or mean to me..." Elijah said hesitantly. "But probably just because we're cousins." Frankly, from what other people said, he was glad they were. "I'm glad I'm at the bottom, though. I don't have any expectations to uphold." That wasn't true, not at all, but that wasn't the point. "Sure, next time you're not a raisin." He said playfully.

Elijah nodded a bit and took one of the tissues with a small “thanks,” before licking it and starting to rub at the spot the other had pointed out. “Is it almost gone?”
Tristan chuckled. “You have a little more above your nose! Right there,” Tristan pointed with his finger without touching the other guy. “Paint party or something?”
"Mon dieu..." Elijah muttered and sighed at himself, rubbing his nose as well. "No, I'm just forgetful and didn't check the mirror on the way out after finishing a painting."

“I met an art geek that was into visual art. Not painting, but still visual art… she did say she was going to do the play in the fall though.” Elijah said thoughtfully, before blinking. “I’m fine with it, if you really want to…” But some people asked just out of politeness, and he didn’t want to like her.
“Really? Maybe I just haven’t met everyone yet. I’m sort of not allowed to associate with anyone lower than me. It’s like this big rule or whatever. You’re new, though, so I think they’ll give you a pass.” Stephanie admitted. She felt bad about it but she was really just trying to make it through school without anymore big changes. “Maybe someday soon? I love art galleries. i’m awful at art but I love looking at it.”

“Excuse me? Uhm, sorry if I’m interrupting something, but my phone died and the line for the bathroom is really long, so I was just wondering if there’s any paint on my face? Usually I remember to wipe it off but I was in a rush and now I’m not sure.”
“Uh yeah there’s some right…. there. I think I have…” Tristan dug around in his too large backpack and produced a Kleenex package. “This might work? You might need water. Maybe spit?”
Elijah nodded a bit and took one of the tissues with a small "thanks," before licking it and starting to rub at the spot the other had pointed out. "Is it almost gone?"

“Oh, um” Mia squinted as she looked him over, looking for any specks. “I don’t see anything. I think you’re good.”
Elijah felt himself relaxing slightly and he nodded, smiling slightly. "Thanks, I always forget to check the mirror and then I end up buying a coffee with a big blue smear on my cheek."
frenchboyinevanston:
Elijah blinked at the girl for a moment before deciding to actually speak. “Sorry, there may be a language barrier, or something, but… why would you go on a date with yourself?”
“Because I’m the only one worthy of being in my own presence and no one else in this hell hole seems to chop up to the sort of counterpart I need.”
“It is a small town. I’m sure if you went to Paris or London or New York you could find someone.” Elijah pointed out casually, hoping it wasn’t a completely absurd suggestion.
{ frenchboyinevanston: }
Elijah let out a little laugh as she mentioned walking not being for her. “I’m a painter, so… I guess that. And I draw too but mostly paint.” He usually only drew drafts of the things he was going to paint - for if his phone battery died and he couldn’t just take a picture.
“Really? That’s amazing! I haven’t met many artists. I mean, we have the art geeks but they’re all into drama and such. Do you ever show anyone anything? I know some people are weird about that.” Stephanie stated, placing her arms on the edge of the pool and watching him.
“I met an art geek that was into visual art. Not painting, but still visual art… she did say she was going to do the play in the fall though.” Elijah said thoughtfully, before blinking. “I’m fine with it, if you really want to…” But some people asked just out of politeness, and he didn’t want to like her.
bbystephanielewis:
“You and me both, sister.” Stephanie replied before giggling at herself. “It’s alright. Like I said, you don’t have to learn. Swimming isn’t for all people just like walking isn’t for some people as well, such as me.” The girl nodded, “What is your thing?”
Elijah let out a little laugh as she mentioned walking not being for her. “I’m a painter, so... I guess that. And I draw too but mostly paint.” He usually only drew drafts of the things he was going to paint - for if his phone battery died and he couldn’t just take a picture.
thedonovanmcgovern:
“…you’re good.”
“Are you sure? I thought I felt some but it may be that I wiped it off and I can still feel it...”
ryder--walker:
“I mean are you too scared to jump?” Ryder raised an eyebrow at the boy, looking down at the lake below the cliff they were standing on. “It’s a yes or no answer, not hard.”
“Oh, yes. Well, not that I’m too scared, I’m just not a very good swimmer.” Elijah admitted, quickly taking a couple steps back from the cliff’s edge. “Sorry, you can jump if you want.”

how are you so quiet about it? your sadness i mean. how do you hold it in your chest, in your eyes, in your teeth without letting it speak; how does it stay still?
