Can we support him please?!
I would love to share this with everyone who may happen to see this post. Please support this wonderful human being. He spent nearly a half century in prison for a crime he never committed. And the only thing that kept him going was his artistic endeavors. He deserves the best life can offer anyone ❤️
HERE IS A LINK TO HIS WORK
My boss is awesome but I love it when hes gone and Im running things for the day. Kind of forces me to lock in and I get everything done faster.
worst part of being an adult is how often youre forced to nag. you Have to be annoying or youre never getting anything done. which is unfortunate considering how common it is to teach kids to never nag and be annoying ever
Advocating for yourself is so difficult when youre raised to subvert your needs because youre "annoying" or "talking back" otherwise . A phrase that rouses my mangled avoidant carcass from the floor is "closed mouths dont get fed" and it's gotten me this far.
Annual deer post:
If you see a fawn laying down on the ground all alone, leave it alone. It is not lost, it does not need your help, do not pick it up, do not move it.
This behavior evolved to keep deer young safe. The baby is very small, very quiet, and hard for most predators to see. A young fawn cannot keep up with a fleeing mother deer, which is their primary problem-solving strategy. So while the mother goes elsewhere to graze, the fawn stays safe and hidden. The mom will be back.
Leave the fawn alone.
This is always good to pass around this time of year, but I would like to add something for the few of us who might be encountering the moose kind of deer.
Moose are deer, but moose have the opposite strategy. They stay close to their babies, and their primary response for anything getting close to their babies is immediate violent murder. If you do see a baby moose by itself, leave. Leave the baby alone and leave the area, preferably quickly. Momma is at most 30 yards away and has already kicked on the kill bill sirens.
in celebration of april 13, i present all four known photos of neil, who banged out the tunes 19 years ago today

I love things like the fish doorbell because it's a reminder that humans are hardwired for curiosity and wonder. Despite our world's concerted effort to alienate us from that part of ourselves it persists and thousands of people flock to watch a livestream of murky water so they can push a little button to let fish through a door half way across the globe. Delightful.
Fish doorbell is live this season!!!!!
Did you spot a fish? Press the Fish Doorbell! This alerts our lock operator to let the fish through. The Fish Doorbell is in Utrecht, NL.
I apologise for sending this but have you seen that we're past the tipping point for the world's corals? And we're close for the amazon and ice sheets? I just... I feel so hopeless seeing that, like I don't know what to do. I always loved the ocean and coral reefs as a kid and now they're going to be gone forever. What do we even do about that?
Hi Anon,
Nothing at all to apologize for! I am always happy to answer questions.
Reading that study was a hard day for me too. I was deeply involved in invertebrate conservation for a lot of my career, and it still holds a very special place in my heart. The potentially loss or severe degradation of such an important, complex, beautiful ecosystem is heartbreaking.
One thing I will say is that models are very good and useful scientific tools, but they can't always account for the surprising tenacity and adaptability of living ecosystems.
Coral reefs in the future will almost certainly look different than the beautiful reefs we all grew up seeing on nature documentaries--but I do not think we should count them out. And more importantly, there are a lot of other people who actually study and work with corals who don't think we should count them out either.
Here is another post that I wrote about this topic recently that goes into more detail on hope for coral reefs and work being done to conserve them--with an excellent video and podcast where coral experts address this topic.
I also have two good news articles on coral conservation in the queue that should be posting in the next week or so. Folks who are working on breeding more heat resistant corals (which showed an 88-99% survival rate in a recent heat wave!) and cryopreserving coral larvae and zooxanthellae for future reef restoration efforts once the climate has stabilized.
Whatever happens, no one will be able to say that we let coral reefs go without a fight. The amount of human passion, effort, and ingenuity all over the world that has gone into saving coral reefs is truly inspiring. Even if that outpouring of love is not enough to fully spare them from the ravages of climate change, I think it still matters that the love was there.
All that we can do is keep caring, keep working on this, and trust that life finds a way--even if that looks different from the reefs we grew up seeing. And know that you are not alone in the way you are feeling about this. I hope this helps, at least a little bit. <3
All other typos can go home. This one wins.
Every time I think: " Oh my family who voted for Trump or 'refused to vote Harris because she's anti-christian' can't be all bad' and I start to miss them or second guess my decision to cut them off I see another new and horrifying headline.

happy new year everyone!
Drew a stoat today, I tried to do a little bit of different shading with fur vs shadow but I don’t think it ultimately matters.
Hey, folks. Do me a favor.
When you circulate the frustrating, scary news about the Trump administration’s ongoing attacks on the manufacturers of chest binders, include a link or two to charities that provide free chest binders for those who cannot afford them or cannot safely purchase them.
News about governmental attempts to restrict trans people’s autonomy has a tendency to hit the most vulnerable members of our community hard. Pairing that news with options for self-determination is protective.
Two of my favorite free binder charities are Point of Pride and the Brother 2 Brother Binder Program.
Reminder, if you ever pay someone for a commission on Paypal (NSFW OR NOT) you SHUT THE FUCK UP in any text box it gives you.
(No this does not mean try to be a snarky comedian and say it was "bomb materials" or "fuck u" or whatever. Don't play with people's livelihoods, just shut the fuck up and don't type anything at all, it's not that hard.)
