➵ sev'erae comes from a royal elven family (the halemyst family) that was wiped out by the noble human keljorns. she was taken in by them when she was a babe, and raised as though adopted by them.
➵ privileged and haughty, sev'erae grew up with complete faith and fealty in her family, never knowing what they did to her original parents, or why.
➵ when she was told that she would be put in an arranged marriage with that of a neighboring lord, sev'erae panicked, for the only thing she'd ever wanted (that she didn't already have) was true love.
➵ so, she ran away, hoping to concoct some plan that would convince her mother and father not to marry her off to a stranger.
➵ eventually, sev would come to find out that the keljorns annihilated the halemysts in service to tiamat, the dragon goddess of green and tyranny. the keljorns have been worshippers of her for centuries, and for reasons unknown to them, tiamat asked for the annihilation of the halemysts in return for more wealth and power.

ok so I need to write a full meta including locations and why she goes there, but i’m going to have an arc where it’s lara in america doing the art tour that her mother never got to do, and it’ll open up possibilities for threads set in america that way! she does it i think after a lot of support from jonah and sam, and it does help her heal in a sense and feel closer to her mom, but let’s be honest. she still finds herself involved in shit wherever she is. not sure when it’ll be set but prob post shadow.
this happens I’ve decided post-shadow because knowing now how the game ends, it makes the most sense to me that Lara would try to honor and live through that for her mother, and do these things she didn’t get to. She’s spent enough time chasing her dad, now she’s paying an homage to her mother and trying to further understand her as a person, through the things she’d wanted to do.
small sex-related headcanon that woke me up today –– while sex with a new partner is challenging for gwyn regardless of who the partner is, I was thinking that for her, there are two things that are especially triggering. these two things are the missionary position and having a man’s weight on her –– they usually go hand in hand, which is to say that it’s not necessarily the missionary position itself that triggers her, but the feeling of helplessness that could potentially come from then having a man’s weight on her. it’s safe to say it could easily bring up some heavily repressed memories and emotions.
I also wanted to note that gwyn works hard to teach herself that what happened to her wasn’t sex –– it was r*pe, and that she isn’t triggered by sex itself, but by r*pe and things that remind her of what happened to her in sangravah. I’ve seen cognitive therapists emphasize the importance of making that distinction with survivors so that, if they want to, they are able to go on and have happy and safe sexual lifestyles. still, of course it’s going to be rough going because of many reasons I don’t feel comfortable spelling out here in case they trigger anyone.
as with a lot of different kinds of trauma, it’s hard to predict what will trigger someone. the best any partner of hers can do is just be patient and understanding through it all, which is the most she could ever ask of someone.
