A short essay on MLP misinformation.

Im autistic, and my special interest is my little pony and it has been for around 13 years(when i first watched it in 1st grade). I collect information about my special interest(s), not necessarily intentionally but i have watched the show probably 30+ times and engaged in so much media surrounding the show that i know alot. And it makes it really difficult for me when people in fandom spaces spread misinformation about the show/characters/etc.

For example: one of the biggest things i see going around is that Sweetie Belle lives with Rarity or that Rarity’s parents are negligent. The biggest reason this goes around is because there is an episode where Rarity’s parents drop Sweetie off at Rarity’s to go on vacation. People misconstrue this as their parents dropping her off last minute with no warning but in fact, it was Rarity who forgot about their plans. People often claim that their parents don’t even live in Ponyville, which is not true, they have a whole ass house in Ponyville where Sweetie Belle lives full time! We also hardly see their parents, as opposed to Applebloom’s family who we see constantly, but this is simply because Rarity’s parents are not that important to her character, whereas Applejack and Applebloom’s family is a huge part of their characters. We have to remember that this is a TV show targeted towards children, and seeing boring parents on a screen is simply not interesting or engaging, so there obviously wont be episodes where Sweetie Belle is just hanging out with her parents.

Another example is one very specific instance. I saw a video where a girl was complaining about the Equestria Games episode. She was upset that Spike, a baby dragon, was forced to save everyone. She was bringing up the fact that there were hundreds of unicorns and 4 princesses. Yet, if you had even watched the episode, you would know that nopony had their magic to prevent cheating in the games. They literally COULDN’T help.

I understand that misinformation will always be spread within fandom spaces, but it seems that with the rise of tiktok—and the separate fandom spaces there— that misinformation has grown exponentially. This is partly because tiktok fandom spaces exist in giant echo chambers. Many times, people will just repeat something they read in a comment section without actually looking it up. Places like reddit and tumblr, discussions are contained to one post typically, and they are just that: discussions. People having active conversations with one another regarding information, whereas on tiktok, you can just see a video or a comment, digest the information, and scroll away. Information there is fleeting and becomes harder and harder to discover the source of it. It’s also full of casual fans who just happened to end up on a video, where other internet spaces have more diehard fans, and this makes it very easy for someone who only watched the show once as a child to start believing misinformation and things like that. Anyways, thats it. I just needed to get this out somewhere sorry for such a long post. LOL

As a middle schooler reading percy jackson, i had so much hatred for Jason. I think if i reread the books now, i probably wouldnt hate him as much. But i really hated him at the time and i’m not even sure why. I think i just wanted Piper to be a lesbian so bad and i was very upset that she was with a man(Jason).
