Some analysis of Chopper.

He's just too cute. I can't deal. They really brought the baby to life. THIS IS ILLEGAL. 😭😭😭🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 I want to give some appreciation to his character.

Best choice ever for ship's doctor.

I know we all wax lyrical about how cute Chopper is, but I also have such appreciation for the love with which his character was developed.

Chopper's empathy and kindness, like many of the Strawhat crew, is remarkable for its presence because of the hardship he's been through.

He displays a naivety of the world, understandable from his perspective, a boy who is given so many labels, from monster, to reindeer, to friend, doctor, crewmate and son.

I think this is the crux of Chopper's character: he defies labels and carves a path for himself, acknowledged as all of the above, and most importantly, loved for the kind soul he is.

I love that his facial animations and eyes in the live action absolutely reflect his nature.

Even barring what the cast/production team has said about it, I think most interpretations of Nosferatu (2024) as a narrative concerned with literal abuse/grooming kind of fall apart when you factor in that Count Orlok is a manifestation of Ellen’s sexual urges. And this isn’t even subtextual, it’s something he directly says: “I am an appetite. Nothing more.” Now, I suppose you could argue that he’s just blaming her for his own predation upon her (something abusers do, certainly) but I don’t think it really reads that way. Orlok’s actions are violent and predatory because that’s how Ellen views her own desires. Dangerous. Destructive. Harmful to herself and her loved ones. Harmful to society! She’s a woman in a culture that demonizes women’s sexuality and enforces repression; that’s the whole point.

Ellen doesn’t die at the end as punishment for her sexual urges, she dies because it’s the only way she can be integrated with (“wed to”) Orlok — in other words, it’s the only way she can accept her sexuality. That’s why she’s the only one who can end the plague! Ellen spends the whole movie in conflict with parts of herself she wants to reject; the destruction can only stop once she ceases to view her sexuality as destructive.

i mean i like the subject matter, but also, it’s just an objectively beautiful photograph. the composition, the gentle sense of motion, the smile on the dancer’s face, his partner’s face in shadow, the central focus being on their clasped hands… honestly one of the best photographs i’ve seen.

Now, please excuse my ignorance, I am not from the US, but I was under the impression that the laws at the time didn't permit it. What is happening here? Is it just that the LGBTQ+ community was always more open and accepting?
