Some of y’all actually think Teruhashi would stop liking Saiki the moment he says “offu” (which he’s eventually going to say anyway, he has already said it three times without her knowing lol). But I hate to break it to you, she clearly loves him more than anything and y’all need to stop downplaying her feelings.

Teruhashi went from being in denial to genuinely liking Saiki for who he is, enough to admit her crush to multiple people. Heck, she was even ready to practice confessing to him in front of someone she had just met (Saiki disguised as Kuriko). She made him chocolates on Valentine’s, literally shouted in front of everyone that nothing could ever make her hate him, even changed her style and personality for him. She changed her college preferences just to be at the same college as him (she literally wrote “Saiki’s wife” as her first choice lmao). Most importantly, she let her perfect pretty girl mask slip away just to go thank him. Her excitement and the little jumps at the thought of spending some alone time with him in the last episode of Reawakened should be enough to make people realize that all Teruhashi wants is be around him. The Mixer episode is the biggest proof. To her, Saiki is not just another “offu” from the crowd. She genuinely likes him and wants him to like her back. Even after hearing about the meteor that could annihilate them all, she still didn’t stop thinking about him.

After all this, I could never say that it’s just about getting a reaction out of him.

So, for anyone that hasn’t read it as of yet, Mashima did a recent interview where he was asked if ‘fans expectations for certain pairings ever influenced the storys development’, to this hiro replied, ‘what’s most captivating isn’t usually the state where two people are already together, but rather that period when they love each other yet haven’t officially established a relationship. That’s the most heart-fluttering stage. As for whether they’ll actually end up together in the end… well, that depends on my mood’.

Unfortunately for any of us nalu shippers i fear this tells us everything we’re ever going to need to know about where nalu’s relationship will end up. This isn’t the first time hiro has stated he enjoys the idea of certain couples living within the ‘more than friends less than lovers’ mentality and i believe this is him just slowly trying to get the fandom to a place where they are comfortable with nalu never ending up as a canon couple.

I truly don’t know how to feel about this, on one hand I do believe nalu’s relationship is alot more deep and complicated to simply be defined by lovers or friends. I think mashima has done a really amazing job at having nalu show their love for eachother through actions over words, and having them both be comfortable enough with their relationship to never feel the need to put a one dimensional label on it.

On the other hand, I truly think if mashima decided to make every single ship canon excluding nalu it would truly be a huge disservice to the connection nalu have. I think hiro is truly struggling to find a way around making nalu canon because even he is aware that he couldn’t get away with giving them a kiss scene or even a confession scene as it would be so ooc for both natsu and lucy.

However, I really do hope mashima takes the time to think of a solid way to make them canon, nalu has always been the ship at the forefront of the show considering their insane amount of screentime, there are even people that don’t interact with this show or fandom anymore but still take the time to check back in to see if nalu is finally canon or not. Not only would it seem like mashima really did just bait his mcs(I know technically the entire guild is the mc but you know what I mean)ending up as a couple to boost his engagement with his most popular show, but it would also just mean hiro wasted the time of his entire audience by using so much of the shows screentime to develop their relationship just to never end up taking it anywhere.

I truly don’t know how I will feel if ft finally ends with every ship canon excluding nalu.

The Mixer Event (Ch. 182)

The mixer chapter is THE biggest Saiteru hint out there istg. I’ve talked about it before but I just had to make another post about it.

When Imu and Chiyo try to convince Teruhashi to stay for the mixer, she eventually agrees, and right after that, her internal monologue is shown. Under the pretense of reluctance, she wonders what the boys are going to be like. This is very much aligned with Saiki’s perception of her. He further helps the boys impress her.

And right when he thinks he has succeeded in moving Teruhashi’s heart, she pulls an uno-reverse on him. She thinks it’d be more fun if Saiki were there. Even if all he did was sit in the corner with a blank face, she’d still enjoy his presence regardless. At that moment, it had nothing to do with getting an offu out of him. She just wants him around because she likes him as he is.

And THAT catches him off guard because the realization is huge on his end. Safe to say, until the mixer event, Saiki strongly believed he wasn’t Teruhashi’s type (throwback to the moment when he saw her with Makoto at the movies and assumed she must’ve found someone who was actually not suitable for her tastes). So, he obviously thought she didn’t really like him and it was just her bruised ego because he didn’t react to her beauty the way others did.

However, Teruhashi proves him wrong and makes him realize that she genuinely enjoys his company regardless of his boring nature. That IS a big deal. Saiki yet again loses to Teruhashi, but he isn’t sad this time. In fact, it makes him smile a little.

Teruhashi’s heart didn’t change, the one whose heart got moved was Saiki’s. He takes the boys out because he finally understands that helping them was useless. Even though Teruhashi ended up enjoying their company, she still didn’t forget about him.

Saiteru is implied a hundred times throughout the entire series, and this has to be one of the most obvious instances lol. Saiki could’ve just taken the boys home without participating in the who-gets-to-be-with-Teruhashi game. Ofc none of the boys deserved to take her home because they weren’t genuine to begin with.

If you think about it, Saiki is the one who actually put in all the effort to make sure she enjoyed. The right temperature, her favourite song, and her favourite joke- he put all of that into their heads so she’d like them. It was all Saiki. So the one who actually deserved to be with Teruhashi, is Saiki. Which is why I believe him winning the rock-paper-scissors game was an intentional move by Aso-sensei.

Lucy doesn’t know this place. Ignoring the cuts and bruises on her skin, she keeps walking as she wipes the blood off her lips. Something is terribly wrong and she needs to find a way out of this place.

What the hell happened?

How did she end up in such a bad shape?

Is there an enemy lurking around?

It feels like her legs will give out any time so she stops. She’s barefoot and she can’t walk any longer. She notices a weird pink emblem on the back of her right hand. It looks like a tattoo. But she never had one to begin with. She stares at it, as if something would happen.

She hears footsteps. Someone is coming her way. She can see his face now. She can’t recognise this man. He has pink hair, the same color as her tattoo, which is odd.

Who is he?

Is he going to kill her?

Her vision blurs and she falls to the ground. She can still see blood dripping from the side of his head and bruises all over his body. For some reason she knows he won’t harm her. Maybe he’s also lost.

He falls to his knees before her. His voice is ragged as he says something to her. She doesn’t get half of his words. She thinks she’s dying.

“....I love you, Lucy....”

This time she hears it and it makes her smile, she really wants to say it back. If she’s dying, she wants him to hear it before it happens. But she doesn’t get to say it, her eyes close.

I love you too. Natsu...

The demon screams into the void, holding her body close to him.

“Huh what?”

Natsu tilts his head in confusion. She’s furrowing her brows in a cutesy way. The dragon slayer feels something in his stomach flutter because of it. It doesn’t bother him anymore though, for this has happened way too many times before.

Hands on her hips, Lucy asks, “Do you ever think before speaking?”

Natsu rolls his eyes with a shrug. He didn’t say anything wrong, in fact he corrected the guy by pointing out how genes work. Their kids will either have pink hair like him or blonde hair like Lucy. He thought she’d be happy knowing he’s more intelligent than some salon-guy.

“What did I say wrong?” He crosses his arms and leans into her space. Lucy’s face heats up from the close proximity.

The celestial mage was actually very surprised when her idiot of a partner started talking about genetics. But that really isn’t the issue. It’s just moments like this give her false hope. That maybe he feels something for her, maybe he does see her as more than a friend. But she knows he’s not on the same page.

Natsu loves her too much but it’s the same way he loves any other member of the guild. And honestly, she’s happy just being his closest friend for the rest of her life. Their friendship is the most important thing and she won’t ruin it for the sake of her feelings.

She just doesn’t want him to make things harder for her. She’s trying so hard to move on and it hurts when she constantly has to remind herself that he doesn’t feel the same. She doesn’t want him to talk about their future kids knowing it will never happen, no matter how much she wants it to.

“Earth to Lucy?” Natsu waves a hand before her, “What’re ya thinking about?”

Lucy sighs and looks up at him again. “Nothing. Leave it, Natsu.”

And he doesn’t, instead pulls her closer to him and kisses her forehead. Lucy relaxes into his chest, almost forgets about the mental storm from a moment ago. She knows he’s trying to comfort her as always. It means nothing...

“I didn’t know your favorite color changed from pink to blue.”

“What?”

“It’s okay. We can just adopt a little one with blue hair, if that’s what you want.”
