Floral Promise focuses quite a bit on the importance of names.
"All forms of life share the same beginning. But their names make them special. You see, a name is the most effective spell of them all. When you call someone's name, in that moment, an invisible bond is formed" says Rafayel.
I find it interesting not only for what it means for Rafayel's in-game lore, but on a meta level as well.
In at least two languages Rafayel's name is quite meaningful and a nod to his true nature.
Yapping about Raf's name in chinese and japanese under the cut
çĽç qĂyĂš is his Chinese name and:
it describes his personality and role in society quite well
immediately signals a relationship with fire
is a pun on the word "fish" as well
Expanding a bit on that:
çĽ qĂ is a surname (also meaning large, vast - makes one think of the sea, no?)
ç yĂš means brilliant, glorious. I think it fits Rafayel - it seems he's destined to be exceptional no matter the universe he's in, and always ends up in a leader position. It's almost like he's a flames who attracts everyone around him.
ç has two parts: çŤ huÇ, and ćąyĂš. The first part of the character is the radical çŤ = fire. This gives the word its meaning. The second part ćą tells us how to read the word. It also means "bright light"
ç yĂš also (almost) sounds like éąźyĂş, fish.
In Japanese the name is ăă ㊠- Homura. It's written in katakana, the alphabet used to write foreign words (and names).
In Japanese the word "homura", written ç , means "flames, blaze" but also "flames (of intense emotion, both negative and postive) , passion". Perfect for him.
I don't speak Korean so I have no idea about that one.
What about the western name then, Rafayel?
I'm working on a longer post about where I think Raf's story is going (or rather, where he possibly comes from) and I'll explain better there but- I think it's a reference to both Raffaello (renaissance italian painter, lover of aesthetics and beauty + founding father of western archeology) and the archangel Raphael (guide, protector, healer with a relationship with water).
the secret of LADS is that it understands that love is both metaphysical and mundane. love can be dying in each others' arms and transcending time and space but love is also making dinner together and taking care of each other. to call the game high concept is an understatement but it's always grounded by detailed and consistent character writing across all levels of gameplay from the myths to the claw machines. no one is doing it like this game is!!!!!
Wait I've been thinkingâsomeone once posted about Xavier wanting MC to like just Xavier right??
Ohhh how i wish to hear about Xavier and his countless identities..about the Xavier who lived on earth, faked his own death, began life in a
But anyways, it got me thinking more in detail about his identities. Throughout his times on Earth, Xavier has had to make so many personalities for himself and create so many versions of himself just to make himself seem like a normal person. Btw this is so hard for me to put into words so bear with me here đ.
But it's a well known fact among most Xavier girlies that he himself has probably had a few identity crises, and I just want to build up on this idea. Xavier himself doesn't view his other versions as him. He sees them as completely different.
Xavier: Whilst Lumiere is kind and gentle, I'm apparently harsh and cruel?
He doesn't see his other version as him, they're other people who he associates with, but nothing further. They're different personalities of him.
Xavier: And when you see Lumiere, you appear to be a lot happier than when you see me.
This just proves that even if the fandom sees Lumiere and Xavier as the same person (thus the jealous Xavier joke) he doesn't think Lumiere is him. Lumiere is a completely different person than Xavier, and that is why Xavier finds it so easy to get jealous over Lumiere.
But my main point isn't thatâIt's the fact that the Xavier we see might not even be the real Xavier (or in other words, is a personality made to protect his real self/a mesh of his dozens of other selves). Going back to Xavier's comment about Lumiere, it proves that Xavier can have different personalities, supported by the fact MC mentioned him to be a good actor. (Can't remember the exact line). He's familiar with this, my earlier words about us not seeing his real self was a joke btw. We see his real personality because you can compare him with Lightseeker (Pre time travel) and see that they are the same. But it just got me thinking about what-ifs. Xavier can create himself many personalities, the reason he's good at acting is because he becomes his other selves. So in other words, he becomes them, but they aren't him. Xavier can become one of his other personalities, but he will never see himself as them. And if we weren't MC, then we probably would have had to face one of his various other selves rather than the actual self he hides behind dozens of other personalities. And it shows, after a whole year, Xavier is finally showing us his true personality, and we're getting to see more actual sides of him than any mysterious fakes. And Xavier likes that this is happening. Whilst MC also has her reincarnations and versions, Xavier has his own personalities and identities. Supported by Xavier's line in the 21 days memory.
Xavier: Every version of me belongs to you, and every version of you, belongs to me.
So yeah in a sense MC and Xavier are kindred spirits. And whilst Xavier may not reincarnate or resurrect, he does live through lives and personalities. It makes him both difficult and easy to characterise.
God I think this went off the rails, and if you've read through, thanks. This is my rant for Xavier whom I love with all my life and soul. And sorry if this ended up offending anyone, or confusing anyone, or if I actually was wrong all the way. I'm human, and can make mistakes, please rather than arguing, just tell me my mistake so I can correct myself!
You hit the nail on the head, in my opinion.
I know this was posted in February before we got the spicy banner but just putting that in perspective now,
"I want you to see me unguarded, and exposed."
Xavier really likes that she's becoming the one person he doesn't have to mask around, he really is just and only himself around her - I think he always has been, even if she had to chip away at it.
I mentally berate MC sometimes when she doesn't press for answers, when she tells us that she'll wait for another time. Because me? I want to peel him back like an onion. But maybe I'm grateful she's more patient than I đ because this slow careful layer peeling has revealed so much depth inside him.
On one hand I think he does see those versions as separate, but nowadays I think through her he's able to discover and accept those parts as pieces of him too. She's reassuring him constantly in exactly the way he needs. To me he's been even more eager to show her all those pieces now. His favorite spots, his old friends, his old hobbies. We're seeing it more and more. I think if he really, truly continued to see them as separate he wouldn't, but thanks to her it's less "That was a different me" and more "You know what? I did kinda really like photography back then..."
And may I add that these versions of himself are mainly projections of the roles he feels he needs to play for the sake of others and that's why he doesn't feel connected to them?
Like with Lumiere, from what we can concur from what we know, he put on that persona only after to cronorific catastrophie as he was the only person at the time to be seen as the key to defeating them, so taking on the role of Lumiere was for the safety of everyone else and not himself.
And Lumiere became an idealized version of himself that is seen as this hero who is perfect, so that isn't truly a representation of who Xavier is: A man who is flawed and doesn't necessarily care to be a hero or idealized.
And even his role as the leader of the backtrackers was not for his sake, but for the sake of Philos and MC.
He's taken on a leadership and spotlight role because he's been taught that from a young age that is his role and that's who he I suppose to be, but after breaking free from that mindset and realizing that is not what he truly desired, he saw thore fonts he puts up for others his "others", parts of himself that are not himself and he knows that to bring those walls downs and shatter the illusion to just anyone is not ideal. It would mean possibly being hurt and misunderstood, so he keeps it to himself.
So that's why he's so addament on MC recognizing him for who he is outside of these roles made out of necessity and choose the version of him he himself chose and is the one he sees as his true self without having to ask to be seen and to see a willingness from others to learn and understand him.
It's important and even good that MC realize him for who be is on the regular whilst also as mentioned before helping him recognize that the other parts and versions of himself do not necessarily have to be separated from who he is on a day to day, bit extensions of him that make him whole and no matter the title given to these other versions, he's still just Xavier, even if it may be to a few people, or just MC
Wait I've been thinkingâsomeone once posted about Xavier wanting MC to like just Xavier right??

đ¸ Seiya was traveling with his band of merry men when they were suddenly separated. An Alseid (nymphs associated with groves, woodlands, and forests) appeared and attempted to frighten him but, because he's not easily scared, it turned into a meet-cute đ
đ¸ Alseid Heaven warns him that if he takes anything from her peach blossom trees out of her forest he'll forget all about her the instant he's outside of it.
Seiya became the King of the Fairies because they were married after he "took" precious words from (and naps in, and food from) her forest.
She warned him that the moment she left her forest he would forget all about her.
Xavier's worried about you as you suffer from a mere cold. While you know you're going to be okay, why doesn't he seem to be convinced?
988 words. sickfic, fluff, light angst, references to xavier's lore & how often he's had to endure the loss of his beloved, f!reader, cross-posted on ao3
a/n: Two fics in one day (the other one being a Caleb fic called 'Aviation's Curse')! Both are fluffy with a tinge of angst hehehe :DD

âStarlight, can I get you anything else?â
It is the third time Xavier has asked you this question, and it is the third time you respond with, âNo.â Even though you are in the comfort of his blankets, thereâs a sense of concern you feel as you see him panic. Itâs only a cold, you tell yourself. Itâs not like youâre dying.
But heâs acting like you are.
âXav,â you take his hand before he can run off to grab yet another ice pack for your head. The others have yet to melt, and you feel quite like an igloo. âIâm okay. Thank you.â
âAre you sure?â he asks, and as bad as it is when you already have a fever, the way his eyes soften warms your heart. His hand squeezes yours, the movement laced with lifetimes of concern. âI-I can make you a smoothie, my dear, if youâd like.â
âI think youâre the one who wants a smoothie.â
His face reddens at the accusation, yet he offers no defense. He only offers the smoothie you have already denied wanting, and you repeat the same answer.
âOkay. Just let me know if you want anything else, okay?â
But he doesnât leave. Xavier sits on a tiny speck of space on his bed and just observes you. Youâre a shivering mess and are running through the tissue boxes too quickly for him to catch up, but he simply watches every move you make.
You only give him a couple seconds before you beckon him to come closer. âIs there anything on my face? Besides snot, of course.â
He doesnât answer, doesnât give any indication that heâs even heard you.
âXavi?â
His name is followed by a stream of coughs, which finally catches his attention. He stands up to take the glass of water sitting on his your nightstand, helping you drink the liquid before another fit of coughs overwhelmed you. The water sloshes when your hands are too shaky to hold them, but through the rim you can see the blues of his eyes color the glass. You can see the worry etched into them.
âItâs just a cold,â you reassure him after youâve taken a sip.
But he seems to be terrified nonetheless. His hands, while more stable than yours, seem to shake as the thought of something permeates those eyes of his.
âIâll be okay,â you say once more, hoping he can believe you this time.
When the stars appear outside of his bedroom window, Xavier takes it upon himself to admire it with you.
The shivers are gone, replaced by the warmth of his body as he lays down in the little space left on his bed. You tell him to stay back so he doesnât catch the illness that plagues you, but he insists on keeping you in his arms. You feel more real this way, he said, and you donât know what he means by that.
âThe moon is pretty, isnât it?â he comments.
You squint, but you donât see it at all. âWhereâs the moon?â
For a moment, you sit in the confusion fostered by his lack of an answer, but then you realize what he means by the sentiment and you roll your eyes. âI love you too, Xavier.â
Even in the darkness, you can see just how beautiful his smile is.
A fit of coughs escapes your lips, and Xavier immediately shifts. His arm is around you, and the other reaches for your water bottle so you can drink from it. He repeats the words, Iâm here. Please stay as he does so, like heâs sending a prayer to the stars about your cold.
âIâm-â you cough, âIâm okay, Xav. Itâs just a cold.â
âBut the pain isnât bad, right?â he says. No, pleads, like the thought of you in pain kills him. âIt doesnât⌠it wonât kill you?â
It just might, you almost tease, especially since the shivers and the constant blowing of your nose to get the never-ending mucus out are starting to wear you out. But you see the seriousness in his gaze, the potential death thatâs playing out in his mind, and every teasing sentiment disappears from your thoughts entirely.
âIt wonât kill me,â you tell him. âYouâve had colds before, my love. It hasnât killed you once.â
âYes, butâŚâ he sighs, relenting to the point youâve made. He pulls you closer to him, holding onto the heat of your skin and the multiple soaked towels he wrapped around you hours before. The sky is nice in his arms even as your head thrums and your arms bury themselves in the blanket.
Although your ears are a little muffled by your cold, Xavierâs words linger like a heated kiss.
âI donât want to lose you again.â
At first, all you want to do is laugh. To giggle at the prospect of him losing you to a mere cold. Tomorrow these coughs and snot and shivers will lessen â maybe even disappear completely â and you will turn back to the woman who lives everyday with a newfound sense of gratitude that you do not have a cold anymore.
But then you hear the words again. The fear in them, the bargaining he seems to have made to the stars of this same plea. You feel the way his hold on you tightens like heâs only realized that youâre here. You may not be well, but you are alive.
âIâm here,â you murmur as best as you can amidst some sniffles. âIâll be okay.â
âPromise me that,â he pleads, but he pleads to you and not the stars this time. You can give him a clearer answer.
And you do so by snuggling in his hold, watching the stars alongside him and breathing as best as you can. Every breath that escapes your lips is salvation for your beloved, who is unfairly used to hearing the last of them.
a/n: I wrote this fic because not only am I actually sick (it's been a week now God when will this stop), but also because I was inspired by Xavier's lore. I can imagine the fear of losing his beloved sticking to him with how many times he's witnessed it. My babyyy
Thank you for reading! Likes and reblogs are so, so appreciated, but if you leave a comment and/or tags detailing your thoughts on this fic, you'll have a special place in my heart <3
I should be dead asleep but my brain is still thinking about this post (aside from other things) and I'm just đđđđđđ I NEED MORE OF THIS FR
đŹ 1  đ 3  â¤ď¸ 16 ¡ Now I love spice as much as the next bitch, but do yk what I love even more as I am one projecting ass bitch?
My ace ass
Like my brain just thought about this
Imagine leaning into Xavier, kissing and just full on make out sessh, limbs tangling. But like. That's it. Just the feel of each other, melting into each other's embrace. The warm breath, the heart beats. He's right there, he's real, he's not going anywhere. And most importantly he loves you. The constant reaffirmation of that love that he carried across the centuries. The look in his eyes as you part your lips from his. Resting foreheads against each other. Nose nuzzling, more small pecks on the lips. His cheeks, his nose, his eyelids. Squishing your cheek against his. Just snuggling even closer, not letting any air be between you and him. In that moment there's only the two of you and the love you hold for each other.
Okay idk what I'm on about but I just needed to ramble đđđđ
