Merry meet, darlings! I just wanted to go ahead and put myself out there for those who may not be aware, but I officially moved from Etsy to my own website last year and started publishing a ton of free, thorough information through articles and a growing online grimoire. If you're feeling overwhelmed by AI content and exorbitant pricing in the metaphysical community, please consider having a look. I have a bunch to offer with more on the way, and I run all of it myself. 💜

Since moving away from Etsy and upgrading, I've also started offering metaphysical supplies, decor, and more sourced from other manufacturers to sell alongside my handmade goods at affordable prices. If there's anything that you feel runs a bit on the expensive side elsewhere, I'll see what similar items I can find on the market or craft myself to stock for you. I've also got some reworked handmade items of mine and some new ones on the way for those who have been around since the Etsy days. "Gothique Ghouls, Concept Sketches" by Dezy Delaceur Digital Art on Clip Studio Paint, 2023

These are some uber quick concept sketches I did for the Luxe Gothique Ghouls, the mascots for the Luxe Gothique Boutique. I thought it might be fun to give a small introduction of them now before I give larger backstories with additional concept work and renders later down the line. Here they are, in order:

Rayven: Classic vampire. Mysterious, seductive, and deathly glamorous. Her favorite color is red, and her style is most aligned with the romantic gothic aesthetic.

Audrey: Retrokitschy zombie. Bubbly, old-fashioned, and constantly snacking. Her favorite color is magenta, and her style is most aligned with the gothabilly/psychobilly aesthetic (with a preference for skirts and dresses).

Muffy: Permanent werewolf. Energetic, encouraging, and athletic. Her favorite color is orange, and her style is most aligned with the gothabilly/psychobilly aesthetic (with a preference for pants and shorts).

Marie: Swamp creature. Enchanting, confident, and a practicing swamp witch. Her favorite color is green, and her style is most aligned with the swampcore/goblincore aesthetic.

Kiki: Killer clown (from outer space). Eccentric, maximalist, and colorful. Her favorite color is purple (but she loves the rainbow, really), and her style is most aligned with the clowncore aesthetic.

Nymphaea: Reanimated mummy. Royal, fierce, and a bit snooty. Her favorite color is blue, and her style is most aligned with the ancient Greco-Egyptian aesthetic.

Lacrimosa: Deep sea mermaid. Shy, ethereal, and always carrying a haunting melody. Her favorite color is blue, and her style is most aligned with the mermaidcore/dark nautical aesthetic.

Meg: Cottage witch. Warm, intuitive, and welcoming. Her favorite color is purple, and her style is most aligned with the witchcore aesthetic.

Ophelia: Ghost bride. Melancholy, honey sweet, and ever helpful. Her favorite color is blue, and her style is most aligned with the ethereal/pre-Raphaelite aesthetic.

Leigh: Frankenstein's newest monster. Honest, laid back, and down-to-earth. Her favorite color is green, and her style is most aligned with the whimsigoth/dark academia aesthetic.

Ruby: Devilish imp. Dramatic, mischievous, and sensual. Her favorite color is red, and her style is most aligned with the burlesque aesthetic.

Sally: Pumpkin head. Quiet, curious, and cozy. Her favorite color is orange, and her style is most aligned with the cottagecore/cottagegoth aesthetic.

Zena: Green alien. Optimistic, adventurous, and out of this world. Her favorite color is purple, and her style is most aligned with the retrofuture/atompunk aesthetic.

Kat: Horror slasher. Spontaneous, weird, and very enthusiastic about horror movies. Her favorite color is red, and her style is most aligned with the analog horror/weirdcore aesthetic.

Juniper: Autumn fairy. Spunky, adorable, and a collector of many shiny things. Her favorite color is orange, and her style is most aligned with the fairycore/fairy grunge aesthetic.

Beatrice: Bat woman. Innovative, productive, and the most girlboss to ever girlboss. Her favorite color is magenta, and her style is most aligned with the corporate goth aesthetic.

Winona: Spider woman. Trendy, influential, and never forgets her scene phase. Her favorite color is magenta, and her style is most aligned with the mallgoth aesthetic.

Ivy: Skeleton woman. Whimsical, open-minded, and romantic. Her favorite color is green, and her style is most aligned with the fantasy/Celtic revival aesthetic.

I don't make most sketches into prints for my art shop, but I am eventually thinking of doing an art book of sketch work if the traditional sketchbook plan goes well. For now, though, if you like this piece, consider having a look at my more polished work.

Thinking about young beginner witches as a market demographic today. By no fault of their own, they are a prime target for witchcraft-flavored businesses of all stripes, reputable or not, indie or big-time, predatory or trustworthy.

It is a deliberate decision to market to beginners. Hell, some of my own work is meant for beginners. The issue comes when the decision to market to beginners is made because:

They are less experienced and have less knowledge in their pockets already, so they are more willing to accept confident statements and less likely to know how to vet those statements;

They are unable to discern quality products and services, because they don't have the experience necessary to recognize a scam versus a low-quality offering versus a high-quality offering;

Beginners want to believe, and are therefore often unwilling to ask questions that threaten the fragile threads of belief they already have; and/or

Beginners want to be part of something, and are therefore often unwilling to challenge confident voices out of fear of rejection, particularly if they have a seemingly above-average amount of social sway (whether or not the sources of those voices are aware).

A beginner witch has begun to practice because they want something. Whether that's enlightenment, control, change, growth, connection, or something else, there is an urge that needs satisfying. The combination of inexperience plus strong desire plus fear of rejection is a powerful cocktail -- one that businesses are all too eager to cater to.

I think it's really important to keep this in mind when providing products and services to this particular demographic (and in general, to a lesser degree). It's really easy to slip into grift territory, even if your skills, products, and services are real enough. Maintaining a sense of realism, integrity, and honesty in your marketing is crucial from an ethical standpoint. Taking advantage of vulnerabilities in order to turn a profit sucks.

If you're going to cater to beginners, do it without positioning yourself as an Ultimate Authority. Do it without making them reliant on you and your products and your services and your information. The best way to do this is to cite other sources, point toward and recommend others in your same community, and speak frankly about your abilities and offerings.

Play a character, create an atmosphere of mystery, whatever. It's all part of the final product. Just don't be a scumbag about it.

I'm sharing this because it is very important for both purveyors in the metaphysical business and for the potential clientele of a metaphysical business - especially beginners - to consider. There is nothing wrong with aligning with and applying a particular aesthetic to yourself. There is nothing wrong with sharing the things you believe in with others who may resonate with those beliefs. There is nothing wrong with offering your passions and energy as a job in a society wherein money is part of the social contract we're signed up for upon birth.

But don't lie for the sake of a carefully curated persona which is dishonestly presented as "unique" and sells that which is otherwise "unattainable" to anyone who is not you. There is nothing in this world that one person can learn and do which cannot be learnt and done by another. There is not an air nor aesthetic which is exclusive to any one person. You may create beautiful things by your own hand and apply your own perceptual understandings to your technique, but there will always be the option for anyone else out there to do the same on their own journey and in their own way.

And don't share things that you don't personally believe in or convince others or yourself that you are infallible in those beliefs. Be honest about the nature of these things which are largely theoretical. No one on this planet knows everything about everything, and you are entirely capable of making mistakes or having your theories about a very nebulous aspect of existence being proven wrong when new information presents itself. To act as if we are not all eternal students of the Kosmos is simply dishonest in the metaphysical space.

And if you are doing all else well to ensure you are practicing honestly and authentically, then do try to price yourself fairly. Value your time. Value your energy. Value your efforts, yes. But equally, know again that anyone can do what you are doing. When people choose to purchase an item from your shop or choose to hire you for a service, it is because they resonate with what you're offering, they enjoy your style of it, or they simply would prefer to invest their time into other things and so they don't mind paying someone to do those things for them. And in spiritual spaces, there is a lot of desperation that can lead someone to seek you out in the first place, so more importantly than anything, if we are to be ethical and responsible in offering our goods and services, we need to remain aware of that. It's a big reason why I offer so many free resources through my business and will continue doing so for as long as I remain in the business. Before I am a "business owner", I am a teacher. I am someone who desires to help people to be able to stand on their own two feet and carve their own unique path. If they continue returning for my information, my goods, my services after they are able to do that, then that's wonderful but not why I'm here.

And it's dangerous, I think, to come into the metaphysical space selling something without that mindset. We have enough people around here who come into it with the intention to scam people - and what an awful time to be doing that. It's also why I think it's imperative, if not absolutely ethically necessary, to include disclaimers about the nature of this work and warnings about the presence and tactics of scammers. If you've visited my website's shop, you may notice I have this kind of information in the listings of every single one of my tarot services.

And to those who consider themselves "baby witches" or a beginner to anything in the realm of metaphysics, please gather your information from more than one place and please learn about the common tactics of scammers in this space. Linked is an article I wrote on some of the more common tactics that I've personally seen.

Know that you can do anything that anyone else is selling to you and that you do not need to nor should you automatically subscribe to the beliefs of others. Your path is your own to shape and carve. Don't take what I or anyone else in this space say as gospel.

My last Doodle Drop of 2025! Upon discussing a future commission featuring male characters, I realized I don't draw enough men. So behold! Men! In the top right, we have my Dragon Age character, Talwen Surana - Olwyn's twin brother. Underneath, we have Astarion, a semi-realistic Ceridwen in the middle, and a smooch between the two lovebirds on the bottom left. You can see how sustained my obsession with this stupid game has become. :> Beneath Olwyn is Jel from Palia. Above her is Reno from Final Fantasy VII. With that, this page had two of the Four Horsemen of my personal apocalypse, so I felt obligated to throw in a little reference to the other two next to Jel: Julian from The Arcana and Solas from Dragon Age Inquisition. Finally, in the top left, we have Glocktopus, the steel defender of our campaign's artificer, Kitt. Gosh, I should really talk about my campaign sometime.
