Need help with characterization/AU!

Hi!! I want to rewrite The Wedding Date (2005) to be less lame, and also just more fun. A big part of that movie is the fact that the main male character is an escort. I don't really want to do a fic set in the past, because I feel like I'd be more liable to fall into harmful stereotypes, or be perpetuating those stereotypes unknowingly, because I admittedly do not know much about that industry, because of various cultural taboos. On the other hand, I know that technology entering the industry has changed a lot, so I'm worried about balancing suspension of disbelief (ie similar enough to reality to be plausible but not overly specific).

I might just be thinking too much about all this; it is fanfiction after all, so there's inherent liberty, but I just want to do the topic justice since that's a lot of my problem with the movie.

Please share your thoughts or whatever opinions/experiences you have! I'm really just looking to get an idea of the discourse/community thoughts surrounding this to better inform my approach.

Descriptions:

Murder Izuku: omegaverse mafia AU where Izuku and Aizawa are as deranged for each other as can be expected. There's no age gap or teacher/student stuff. I have a lot of this written.

He bit me!: Aizawa is a freak in the sheets and no one saw that coming. Aged up Izuku, and he didn't go to UA. I've pretty much finished this one.

Izuku/Yamada get paired with Hitoshi/Aizawa for an undercover mission. Pretty much just a nice little meet cute. I have most of this finished.

yamada/aizawa/izuku: No quirk AU, a miscommunication, getting together, poly negotiations fic. This one would probably require more work-- it'd be multiple chapters, probably 3-5 at maybe 10k words. I have bits and pieces of this written.

jasper/bella oneshot: Kind of a cowboy AU? Bella gets turned into a vampire and basically becomes a hermit... with livestock. I have almost all of this written, I'm just not sure how to end it, so I would be open to suggestions if you vote for this option, regardless of if this wins the poll.

aro/bella oneshot: Kind of a no Cullens AU, Bella's kind of just freeballing it since her sire abandoned her. I have this like... 95% done.

Bella revenge fic: The Cullens never come back after they leave in New Moon, and Bella has a whole character arc and decides to burn their lives down. It ends up being a Bella/Aro fic. I have none of this written lmao, and I don't know for certain that it would be a one shot either?

Another DLTDFY chapter: This is my slowburn polyship rewrite. I posted part one of chapter 16 today, so I could figure out the back half and maybe more? I don't know how much people care tbh.

Another Running against the world that's turning chapter: This is my HP/Twilight crossover with Jasper/Harry, it's also kind of a HP AU since there's some fun lore bits that I shuffled around. The next chapter is ready to be posted, I just think that the following ones might be horribly large so I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger yet.

FROM THE VAULT: This is essentially a bunch of ideas that I ended up abandoning for continuing my longer-in-progress fics, or oneshots that I just got in the zone for. They're all in various states of started.

Happy Accidents: a yamada/aizawa/izuku time travel fic where Izuku gets dumped in the past and they're all the same age. There's angst and cuteness and a happy ending. Izuku becomes more chaotic with less obligations and perfectionism.

Heaven and Hell Were Words to Me: a persephone and hades aideku greek mythology AU. It's more about independence than a dark romance thing. It's more artsy than I usually go for, but I think it would be good.

Ride or Die: A Robin/Eddie friendship fic. There could be some romance, but I have the friendship bit finished, and I'd be happy to leave it as is-- just being a cute slice of life.

Steddie: Some midwestern angst and a no upside down AU are on both on the table. The angst would be more of a character study, the AU would be pretty fluffy but ya know... still period typical homophobia.

Tony/Harry: There are two options here: (1) a soulmark post wizarding war AU with some time skips before the plot of Iron Man 1 and Avengers 1 kicks in, but I could just post the Iron Man 1 part and could see if there's enough interest to get into the Avengers 1 plot. The other option (2) is a Master of Death/Merchant of Death fic. It's an accidental meeting AU where the ministry interfaces with the avengers, but there's some extra supernatural fated fun shit.

Nobody's Soldier: A Bucky character study. Time jumps through his life, PTSD, angst. I don't remember if I made this gay, but I did make it post endgame... so yeah... ouch.

I also have some gay grey's anatomy fics and rarepairs if that's something someone is interested in, but I've never posted for that fandom so I won't go into a ton of detail.

Being in fandom really be like: I have the only correct thoughts and opinions and anyone who agrees with me is a shining knight in my court and anyone who disagrees with me is getting telepathically blown up (blocked) because they are Wrong. Except for my mutuals who are allowed to be wrong because I love them. And this other person who is a grey knight in the court of my enemies who are Wrong but they draw/write their opinions in a way that's really hot. Also I like to play at being Wrong sometimes but again because I am always Right it's fun and brilliant when I do it because I am doing it correctly. Not in a moral way though. I'll kill our idol on a raised dias with a rich golden crown belayed with precious jewels placed upon his head and bathe in his blood as my court claps and cheers and jerks off, and this is how all things should be.

You should get an AO3 account

With the rise of AI and the well known epidemic of AI companies scraping Ao3 for training data most authors on Ao3 have locked down their fics to logged in users only. This is unfortunate for authors and readers. As an author I've noticed a steep drop in readership on fics restricted to logged in users and when recommending fics to my friends I've noticed that the folks without an account can't find the fics. The logged in users only toggle, not only keeps people without an account from reading a fic, but also from seeing its listing at all. More than 50% of fics I come across have this setting turned on. So, you should get an AO3 account. I know this seems daunting and unfair because it's an invite only system but, you can invite yourself through the homepage if you don't already have one, and in the past few years I've never heard of someone who requested an invitation through this method, not getting one. And for those of you who are hesitant because you don't write, that's okay. It's not weird at all to click on a commenter username and find that they have 0 works and 10,000 bookmarks. It might take a week for the invitation to actually show up, but I can almost guarantee you will get one, just keep an eye on your email. It's free to join and donations are optional. You'll have more to read if you have an account and maybe give your favorite author the chance to protect their work from AI without a loss of readership and feedback.

Craft!

As an end of year craft, my partner and I decided to try book binding for the first time and of course had to do a fic/series worthy of it.

We’re both fans of @lukewarm-beef-stew and so we bound ‘for something as sweet as pain’ and ‘addicted to danger (what’s your name stranger?)’.

We’re really proud of how it turned out!

But even a kind person has their limits, and this was his.

Someone had taken something from him. Something that was his.

This had to be rectified.

It seemed like they were both disappointed when nothing was revealed, which made Harry’s lips twitch. Did he really think he could poke me and a magic laser would come out?

After that was apparently deemed non-threatening which Harry found fucking hilarious honestly.

I have ideas for longfics where Izuku has a different quirk or like feels differently about having ofa and shit gets crazy.

To think I started out assuming I probably wouldn't write for this fandom to it being in my top two is wild. Everything is pure chaos and I love it.

Coming back from Christmas break felt a little bit like getting a tooth pulled, Jasper debated not going at all that first day back, but then he reminded himself that he wasn’t a deserter. 

He was standing around Edward’s Volvo with the rest of his siblings, waiting until the last moment to throw themselves into the pool of marinating scents, body odor, and hormones, when something changed. 

They all heard the roar of a motor when it was still a few miles out, but Jasper had expected it was some sort of machinery, he certainly didn’t expect the boy who pulled into the student parking lot. 

Jasper watched the most beautiful person he had ever seen take that helmet off.

"Remind me why I'm doing this, again?" Regulus grumbled, walking with Sirius into the dental surgeon's office while frowning.

"Because my car's in the shop and you do well when bribed with ice cream," Sirius chirped, walking up to the front desk. "Here for James Potter please!"

Regulus hadn't seen James in years, but was not looking forward to driving him home from getting his wisdom teeth removed. "If he gets blood on my car seats, you're paying for it!" he hissed as Sirius was led down the hall to, presumably, get the patient.

Moments later, Sirius returned, propping a half-conscious man under his arm. In the years since Regulus had seen him, James Potter had grown by a good foot, and grown infinitely more attractive, too. Even in his drugged-up state, he looked stunning, with beautiful hazel eyes, a fit frame, and a smile, even with a mouth full of cotton, that was to die for.

Looking up, James's eyes widened when he saw Regulus. "Oh m'God, I'm dead," he mumbled, head lolling and eyes half-closed. "Sir'us. I died 'n surg'ry."

Confused, Sirius looked over to his best friend. "What? No, mate, you're fine! Just a bit fucked from the drugs, that's-"

"Nah, mate look!" James said dazedly, staggering and pointing over to Regulus, who gave him an affronted look. "That's an angel!"

Immediately, Regulus blushed crimson as James began babbling on about how good-looking he was, gesturing wildly.

Sirius, however, just groaned. "Let's get you in the car, Romeo," he mumbled, shooting Regulus an annoyed look.

Regulus, however, was grinning from ear-to-ear.
