THE OLDER I GET THE HELLER THE NO
Chapter 3 – Three Months In
Three months had passed since Adam moved to Willow Creek and the four of them had fallen into a comfortable rhythm Rayan would start mornings by making terrible jokes Mira would roll her eyes Yara would just laugh and shake her head and Adam was always there quietly observing and joining in at exactly the right moment
One Saturday they decided to meet at the small lake on the edge of town Lina Mira carried a backpack full of snacks while Rayan struggled to hold a frisbee and Yara balanced a portable speaker on her shoulder
You brought music she asked Mira Yeah I thought we could make it a little picnic Adam added softly and smiled like he had thought of everything already
As they walked along the gravel path Adam kept pace easily beside them his eyes flicking from one friend to another noticing little things the way Evan tucked his sleeves the way Yara kicked stones absentmindedly the way Mira adjusted her hair constantly
They reached the lake and spread blankets and snacks Rayan immediately started teasing Mira about her obsession with organization You’re organizing the chips again Mira said seriously No one touches them until the order is perfect
Adam watched and smiled faintly You’re meticulous he said quietly It suits you Mira felt a small chill but forced a laugh Yeah well someone has to be
The afternoon passed in laughter stories and games Adam fitting in perfectly asking questions about their pasts laughing at their jokes but always listening carefully when they talked about their families their memories small incidents that might seem insignificant but Adam noted them all
At one point Yara leaned back and stretched I swear one day I’ll jump off that rock into the lake Evan groaned Please don’t die before lunch
Adam’s gaze followed her calmly and he said softly It’s important to be careful sometimes Yara glanced at him weirdly Yeah thanks he just smiled and went back to tossing a pebble into the water
After some time they started telling stories from when they were kids Rayan recounted getting chased by a dog Mira talked about being teased at school Yara shared a time she got locked out of her house Adam listened closely nodding at the right moments occasionally asking questions that seemed casual but made them open up more than they intended
Mira caught herself noticing he remembered all the small details the ones they barely thought of themselves and felt a little unnerved but also curious He knows so much she thought He remembers everything
As the sun dipped lower Adam suggested they take a small trail around the lake Just a short one he said smiling confidently We can see the sunset from the hill
They walked in silence for a few moments enjoying the golden light until Mira noticed Adam straying slightly off the path Evan nudged him You okay man Adam shrugged I just wanted to see something over there he said casually Mira looked at him but he was already back with a small grin
By the time they reached the top of the hill the sun was nearly gone They all sat down catching their breath Rayan popped a chip into his mouth and leaned back You know this view is insane Mira said quietly It really is Adam nodded silently enjoying the view with them but the way his eyes swept over each of them made Mira’s stomach twist slightly
They stayed there talking quietly as the stars began to appear Adam told stories about places he had been before moving to Willow Creek nothing that sounded dangerous but there was a strange intensity to the way he spoke about observing people about remembering faces about details
Yara finally said Okay enough creepy stories for tonight let’s just enjoy the stars Evan agreed completely Mira smiled softly but in the back of her mind she felt a little tension a little unease she couldnt quite explain
When they walked back down Adam fell into step behind them letting them talk between themselves He didn’t interrupt but Mira noticed he lingered on certain words certain moments as if committing them to memory
And as they reached the small streets of Willow Creek Adam’s presence felt heavier than it did in the morning he smiled faintly at them and said softly I like days like this I like being with people who understand each other
Mira felt a shiver but forced a laugh and said Yeah me too And none of them realized that Adam’s definition of understanding was slowly taking shape in a way none of them would ever forget
Chapter 2 – Making Friends
The next morning the sun barely peeked over Willow Creek as Mira Rayan and Yara met by the old oak near the school entrance Rayan was juggling his backpack and a half eaten sandwich
I swear if you drop that I’m not picking it up Mira said rolling her eyes
Relax he said grinning I got this Mira shook her head and laughed only Rayan could treat breakfast like a circus act
Yara stretched her arms and yawned Man it feels good to finally have a day with no tests she said the breeze teasing strands of her hair
Mira glanced around and noticed Adam leaning against the brick wall by the playground watching them His expression was calm neutral but his eyes followed every little move
Hey he said walking over Hey Lina I mean Mira Mira shot him a questioning look Why Lina he said smiling Just teasing anyway want to walk with us
Mira nodded and they fell into step with Rayan and Yara Adam matched their pace almost perfectly like he had memorized their rhythm
So said Rayan You guys did anything fun over the weekend
Nothing exciting Mira said I stayed home read some books caught up on homework Yara shrugged I went to the park with my cousin saw a bunch of stray cats
Adam smiled softly That sounds nice I wandered around the edge of town checked out some old places Rayan raised an eyebrow What old places creepy abandoned stuff yeah Adam replied not creepy just interesting
They laughed at his nonchalant tone and started teasing him about being a mysterious guy in a small town
Seriously Adam Mira said you show up one day out of nowhere you dont know anyone and now suddenly youre best friends with us Rayan laughed Its like youre a wizard or something
Adam chuckled softly I guess I just have good instincts Mira noticed his smile lingered a little too long when he looked at them like he was memorizing every detail of their faces
During lunch they sat together in the cafeteria sharing food jokes and stories Rayan made everyone laugh recounting a terrible science experiment while Adam listened nodding at all the right moments asking questions that made him seem genuinely interested
Later after school they went to the park tossing a frisbee Mira noticed Adam occasionally veering slightly off the path but always circling back with a casual excuse I was just checking something he said but his tone was calm friendly
Yara noticed it too but shrugged he seems harmless she said out loud
They spent the afternoon laughing joking taking turns pushing each other on the swings and talking about summer plans Adam fit in effortlessly asking questions about everything learning the small details about them
Mira caught herself wondering how much he remembered every story every detail about them from the day before or maybe even things they had mentioned long ago
As the sky turned golden the four of them sat on the hill overlooking the town Rayan munched on chips You know this is actually kinda perfect Mira said quiet for once just enjoying the sunset
Adam sat next to them calm smiling Its nice being with people who understand each other he said almost too softly
Yara nudged him What do you mean understand each other Adam looked at each of them his gaze settling on Mira for just a heartbeat longer than usual Its nothing he said quickly but Mira felt the weight of his eyes linger
Rayan tossed a chip at him Hey man focus on the snack not the existential thoughts
They all laughed and for a moment it felt like normal life again but Mira couldnt shake the feeling that Adam noticed things about them no one else would things that were small private secret things and that was both comforting and a little unsettling
As the sun disappeared behind the hills they all walked home together Adam silently falling in step at the back watching their interactions absorbing every laugh every glance every word as if storing them away
The quiet town of Willow Creek seemed peaceful but for the first time Mira thought maybe some shadows moved beneath the surface and some of them were already very close
Chapter 1 – Quiet Town New Faces
The sun hung lazily over Willow Creek warming the quiet streets and the old brick school Birds chirped lazily from the trees and a faint breeze rustled the leaves Mira kicked at a stray pebble on the sidewalk glancing at her two friends
Rayan grinned not stopping I’m practicing You never know when the town might get spooky Gotta be ready for ghost attacks
Yara sprawled on the grass beside the walkway laughed Yeah because ghosts are really your biggest problem Have you seen the cafeteria food That’s the real terror here
They were laughing the kind of laugh that only comes from years of school mornings and endless inside jokes Mira shook her head tugging her backpack straps over her shoulders Alright sarcasm break over We’ve got math in ten minutes
Ugh math Rayan groaned If someone invented a time machine I’d just go back and erase math from existence
Yara sat up hair falling across her face You’d probably just end up messing up history or something Remember last week when you tried baking cookies without a recipe The fire alarm went off
Rayan threw his hands up That was one time And technically it was science food chemistry gone wrong
They were laughing so hard Mira almost didn’t notice the new boy standing at the edge of the schoolyard He was watching them hands tucked into the pockets of his jacket dark hair falling over his eyes There was something odd about him quiet still but his gaze seemed almost too attentive
He’s new right Mira whispered to Yara
Yeah Yara replied Saw him earlier by the flagpole Doesn’t talk much Creepy quiet
Rayan squinted Creepy quiet Bro that’s like my spirit animal Maybe he’s cool
The boy stepped forward almost hesitant and cleared his throat Hi he said softly voice calm but firm I’m Adam I just moved here I don’t really know anyone yet
Mira glanced at her friends eyebrows raised Oh hey Adam I’m Mira this is Rayan and Yara She smiled politely but there was a strange pull in her chest something about him didn’t quite fit the casual calm of the town
Adam nodded Nice to meet you I’ve been looking for people to hang out with I don’t really have anyone else His eyes flicked to each of them lingering a little too long almost studying them
Yara shrugged Well you found us I hope you’re not boring
Boring Adam’s lips curved slightly a small smile almost too precise Not a chance I’m interesting At least I like to think so
Rayan nudged Mira Dude he’s acting mysterious I like him already
Mira just shook her head trying to ignore the small unsettling feeling creeping in But Adam’s smile didn’t vanish It lingered calm like he already knew something about them something they didn’t know about themselves yet
The bell rang loud and clanging snapping them back to reality Classes awaited and the new boy quietly fell in step beside them matching their pace effortlessly his presence strangely comfortable
By the time the school day ended Adam had already found excuses to sit with them in the cafeteria joining their jokes their teasing laughing just the right amount at the right moments He learned their quirks fast Rayan’s sarcasm Yara’s bold comebacks Mira’s tendency to overthink everything And yet even in all his laughter Adam’s gaze sometimes lingered a beat too long a small smirk hiding under the corners of his lips like he was storing all the little details about them
As the sun dipped behind the town’s hills the three friends walked home together Adam quietly trailing behind them They didn’t notice it yet but a shadow had just stepped into their world calm silent and observing
And the quiet town of Willow Creek had just grown a little darker
she kept testing me like a blade sliding against glass she wanted to see if I would crack if I would disappear if I would fold
but I never did
one night she told me through trembling fingers
i can’t handle how much you love me i feel like i’ll drown
and I let it sit there in the silence before I replied
i’m not here to make it easy babydoll i’m here to make it worth drowning for
I carry you like a secret in the shadows, the part of me that no one else can touch. Loving you is like dancing on the edge of a blade—beautiful, sharp, and inevitable. Every heartbeat drags me closer to you, even as it burns me from the inside. I don’t just want you; I need you, in the way a storm needs the sea, in the way darkness needs to swallow the light. You are my ruin and my refuge, my sweetest poison, and I would follow you into the abyss without a second thought. Because some loves aren’t gentle—they tear through you, leaving you bleeding and alive, and I would choose that pain a thousand times just to feel you near
I warned her from the start that I do not come with safety rules.
No soft edges.
No promises that leave room for escape.
She stepped closer anyway.
Curious.
Defiant.
Like she wanted to see what would happen if she poked the wolf instead of running from it.
I told her I like control.
Not the playful kind.
The kind that keeps her breathing sharp and her pulse trapped under my hand.
She laughed.
She thought I was joking.
She will learn I never joke about the things I want.
I am not the man she introduces to her friends.
I am the man she thinks about in the dark.
The one she should not want
yet keeps craving when she swears she has moved on.
I do not love gentle.
I do not kiss without leaving a mark.
I take my time
because I want every part of her to remember exactly who she belongs to.
She believes fear will save her.
She thinks if she pushes me away enough times, the fire will die.
She does not understand.
I am the fear.
I am the fire.
I am the reason she keeps coming back
shaking
but wanting more.
If she wants a monster
she came to the right man
Don't take my posts seriously , take'm as your ex took you . As a joke
I'm tired of these 10 minute weekends.
A LOVELY NIGHTMARE
