im not someone who likes to display merch in my room, but i wanted a little place for missy. i thought my tiny library would be a good fit for a girl who finds solace in being buried under scrolls. ive used a few shells from my old collection & a gifted candle with the scent of a "lost paradise" (from yankee candle) on a wooden plate i was also gifted to act as an almost "home-away-from-home."

its not the lush wood nor the white sands of naath, or even a library fit for such a scholar, but i hope it suffices either way !

Lady Marna Baratheon

The younger sister of King Robert and Lord Stannis Baratheon and twin to Renly Baratheon, the Lady Marna lacked the classical Baratheon features, instead taking after her Estermont mother with hazel brown eyes and brown hair.

After the death of her parents while on a mission across the Narrow Sea to find a bride of noble Valyrian blood for Prince Rhaegar, it was arenged for Marna to become a lady in waiting to the Dornish Princess Elia Martell as a political move to smooth over any residual resentment. During this time Marna gained a life long interest in cultures.

During Robert's Rebellion, Marna stayed in King's Landing as a political prisoner. During the sacking of King's Landing, she Narrowly surviving and became the only witness of King Aenys death by the Kingsguard member Ser Jaime Lannister.

In the years since the Rebellion, Marna has been thrice married and thrice widowed. This has earned her the moniker of "The Stranger's Bride". Due to this and her autism her brothers heavily shelter her. When not in the Red Keep, Marna can be found in preying in the Sept of Bealor at the altars of the Mother, the Father and the Stranger. When not there she can often be found doing charity, mainly focusing on widows, orphans and prostitutes, making her much loved by the smallfolk.

Somehow, in her years before The War of the Five King, Marna ends up falling into a secret situationship with a certain Lion of Lannister.

Pearl curled tighter on the couch, re-settling her blanket around her.

Aventurine came out into the living room. “I’m on the phone with the betting facility. They’re listing the odds. Do you know which horse you’re betting on?”

She nodded. “Silver Stops.”

“Really? He’s not the favorite.”

She shrugged, laughing. “I have a feel for these things. I have since I was nine.”

“Really?”

She nodded, but before she could speak, clearly there was someone else on the other end of the phone line, because Aventurine turned his attention to it, lifting his hand in a ‘one second’ gesture.

“Hi. I want to put 500 credits on Upward Trend to place or show; and 500 credits on Silver Stops to win. Great. Thank you.”

He hung up, and turned his attention back to Pearl. “All set. So you can sense winning horses?”

“Mm-hm! At that same party where I was playing cards with my great-aunts and uncles, I also won my first—small and family-only, obviously—bet on the race. Since then, I’ve had several successes. Not every year, just years when I get a good hunch.”

He chuckled, sitting down next to her. “You’ve been a gambler longer than I have.”

“But you have better luck.”

“Well, yeah, I snagged you.”

Pearl cooed. “I’m sorry I made us unable to go see the race live. I feel like I ruined your birthday.”

“Eh, neither my birthday or the race are that big of deals to me.”

She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “I guess so.”

He reached over, shifting the blanket a little so he could take her hand without uncovering her. “Your hands are ice cold, wow. You can’t control what your body does. You put up with me waking you up in the middle of the night, I can deal with needing to stay home with you because you’re having a flareup. Kind of what ‘in sickness and in health’ means.”

Now her gaze warmed. “Yeah, that’s true.”

His eyes flicked up to the television. “Oh, they’re doing the post parade.”

They watched, noting the planets jockeys came from and all the fun names of the horses set to race.

A couple had scratched already, one for an unnamed reason and the other due to an on-track injury caused when the horse got frightened.

“Good thing I didn’t pick that one,” Pearl mused. Aventurine giggled.

After some more advertising and preamble, the gates opened and the horses set off.

Silver Stops was in dead last.

“He’s not doing very well,” Aventurine noted.

“I have to believe! There have been horses that do that habitually. Something about free lanes if they hang back.”

He shrugged, and they both kept watching.

The broadcast was no longer keeping track of the rankings, and from the angle of recording, it was impossible to see the silks on the jockeys or numbers on the horses. It wasn’t until the horses’ noses had peeked over the finish line that they labeled them again.

Silver Stops: unofficial winner, awaiting verification.

“Wow, your horse did it.”

“Yeah!” She cheered.

Aventurine fished out his phone to check something. “Oh, and the odds remained pretty good, too. You’re about to have a heavy deposit of credits to deal with.”

“Well, then dinner’s on me. It was going to be anyway, since it’s your birthday, but now for sure pick whatever you want from wherever you feel like,” Pearl said with a laugh.

“So generous with your winnings,” he teased, now searching up a restaurant. “See? This was perfect for my birthday. I’m getting to do everything I like without leaving the house. Well, not everything just yet.” He turned and winked at her.

Pearl flustered, but giggled. “I’ll do my best to accommodate such a request,” she replied, “but not until after we eat the honey cake I made. I got cute candles and hand-wrote ‘Kakavasha’ on it.”

He held up his hands in deference to her, smiling. “Of course. What more could I want?”
