Note: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez graduated Cum Laude from Boston University.
Wasn’t she working as a bar tender before she got elected?
Folks on the right always seem very concerned that AOC was a bartender. They ignore her prestigious education and the fact that she graduated with distinction. They ignore that she has relevant degrees. And they ignore that she worked for the nonprofit National Hispanic Institute gaining relevant experience in activism.
I’ve also noticed that conservatives constantly complain about “elites.” They propped up “Joe Six Pack” because they felt too many lawmakers were out of touch and they wanted people who understood the common folk. Blue collar workers are the heart and soul of America, right?
Did you know that nearly half of congress is filled with lawyers? And the rest are mostly businessmen. What do lawyers know about my life? What do lawyers know about struggling to pay bills? What do lawyers know about what it’s like to hold a low wage job? How are they supposed to represent me and my needs?
Do you know why AOC worked as a bartender? Her father died and her mother’s jobs as a house cleaner and bus driver were not enough to fight foreclosure. So Alexandria put her career ambitions on hold and got a job as a bartender to help her mom. Conservatives are all about “family values” right? AOC valued her family so much that she worked a grueling job out of love for her mom.
And you want to trivialize that?
AOC knows my struggle more than Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. I have confidence that AOC will represent me and my family’s needs more so than any lawyer or businessman who is just looking to enrich themselves.
Maybe we need a few more bartenders and a few less lawyers.
Republicans: “Work hard and get a better job, snowflake” AOC: *works hard and gets a better job* Republicans: “N-No, not like that”
If your in school and reading this, refuse to go to school. Or if they force you, do a sort down strike. Refuse to go to classes. Get your friends to do the same. WEAR A FUCKING MASK.
They are killing you, your friends, their families, your teachers and thousands of random people who you will end up infecting. They are sending you back knowing that you will get sick and die or get other people killed. Dont let them. Your life isnt worth it.
Also keep an eye on your school boards and PTA meetings and what they’re doing and sending out. My hometown with elementary-high school wants to attempt a hybrid program where half the students go Monday/Wednesday, the other half goes Tuesday/Thursday, no one goes Friday, and the day you don’t go to in-person school you do work virtually. I found about this through Facebook (because I don’t live in hometown anymore) because a bunch of parents were complaining about this solution because of their inability to find sitters due to work schedules or just not wanting to deal with trying to help their kids when its the virtual day, and they’re petitioning the school to send kids in-person 5-days a week despite the hybrid program being declared official school policy for the time being. Another reason I see parents complaining is because their kids don’t get appropriate socialization with peers - and I get that! These are all valid reasons! But for you school kids out there - make sure you know how your school is handling it. Make sure your voice is heard. Your complaints and concerns are just as valid as working parents.
anonymous asked; favourite non-mxtx novel?
SHA PO LANG
“Zi Xi, as long as you say a word, whether it be a sea of flames or a mountain of swords, I will still charge ahead.”
I saw the question on MDZS’s era and decided to present the result of my researches and calculations on the subject. According to tvtropes, in the Analysis page, it should take place before Tang dynasty (618-907AD). Gusu is today a district created in 2012, but Gusu was once the ancient name of Suzhou before being officialised as the latter in 589AD. The term “cut-sleeve” had been created around 4BC-1AD (from the year Emperor Ai of Han met Dong Xian to the year of former’s death). (1/4)
for the anon-y who asked!! let’s all thank new anon for taking the time for us!! hehe <3
“An ahistorical melange nominally set somewhere in the 5th or 6th century” why YES that sounds lovely, I’ll have three.
I could and will take that to mean that a) they’re just coming off a warring states period (which is probably where all those missing grandparents went) and the cultivation world still isn’t used to having any strong centralized civil authorities around, and b) there are only two centralized civil authorities now, but they’re both kind of messy and also the border between them is unstable and tends to cut right through the middle of the region where canon takes place.
Which explains. A lot.
#“the emperor wants jianghu to stop having an entire-ass war please and also pay some taxes” #“lol which one? and who’s gonna make us??”
Taxes? Bruh, we have Magic. Bite me.
Literally cultivators pulling a Lyanna Mormont and be like “We know no Emperor but the Chief Cultivator whose name is…well it was Wen now it’s Jin I guess.”
Ohohoh!! All this analysis is brilliant??? My god the amount of digging based on the different inventions and fashion and religion that appeared in the show… And the two periods that @lyratalus brought up are actually outright mentioned in the official photobook as being references (although they’re not pinpointed as the precise periods during which the show took place), some quick translations below:
The terrain during this period is similar to that of during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (386AD-589AD). To the east is the vast ocean; the north is bordered by the Yin Mountains (an actual mountain range in the north of China stretching about 1000km) and Gobi Desert (a desert in the north of China that crosses over into the south of Mongolia); in the northwest lies the expansive desert; in the west are the Hengduan Mountains (a group of mountain ranges and grasslands that run from the Tibetan Plateau to the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau); and in the south are the endless tens and thousands of great mountains and untouched, ancient forests filled with miasma. People mainly live in the North China Plain, and a few also live in the lakes and hills in the south.
(map below)
Cultural Environment
As a whole, the cultural background emulates that of the Wei-Jin period (220AD-420AD, which covers the Three Kingdoms 220AD-280AD all the way to the end of the Jin Dynasty 266AD-420AD which is marked by the period of the Sixteen Kingdoms 304AD-439AD during which Northern China was fractured into a lot of individual short-lived states, very messy).
On one hand, various philosophies and cultivation sects arose at the same time, bringing academic and cultural diversity.
On the other hand, there was also a lot of development in the literature and arts. It was popular to pursue such refined activities: poetry, music, dance, painting, sculpture, calligraphy, and even garden architecture - all of these changed tremendously during this period.
Anyway all this to prove that YOU GUYS your analyses are scarily spot on
Actually though I don’t care if a billionaire worked hard or not. Overfishing and overhunting take hard work too, and they’re flat out illegal, why is over-hoarding the limited currency of your country ok
It should be illegal to name a novel something as cute as “The Husky And His White Cat Shizun” and promptly yank readers’ hearts out like 15 chapters in.

henlo sir m'am uh i wanted to ask if you'd be kind enough to give me a summary on what "2ha" is about? i've seen it around and have wanted to get into it but i'm a wuss and don't like jumping in blindly ; u ;
yeah of course!!
what is 2ha?
so 2HA aka ER HA aka THE DUMB HUSKY AND HIS WHITE CAT SHIZUN is a m/m chinese fantasy novel by meatbun (that’s the author’s handle) clocking in at about 300 chapters. it has lots of warnings associated with it which can be found at the start of various chapters. before i go on, here are links to the google drives where you can read it:
translation from 1-117
mtl from 117-321
it’s going to be made into a live action titled IMMORTALITY and all the art in this post is official concept art from that adaptation. the author also refers to the novel as “this venerable one has been reformed” which would probably make more sense as a title since the novel is not at all what the common title suggests.
what’s it about?
it’s basically a time travel fix-it story. the premise is that the evil emperor of the cultivation world, mo ran, dies and is transported back to his 15 year old body before the events that lead to him becoming the worst person in the world. he realizes he has a chance to stop the death of his friend, shi mei, that lead to his descent into evil the first time, and there’s our story–but don’t be fooled. the person he blames for that death is his shizun, chu wanning, and that is the other half of our main pairing.
in their original life, after mo ran made himself emperor and started terrorizing the world, chu wanning was the only cultivator powerful enough to defy him. he took responsibility for mo ran’s descent as his shizun and thwarted him three times before he finally fell to mo ran, in dramatic fashion. he’s an ascetic in all ways, beautiful and cold, purer than pure and without emotion other than being short-tempered (or so it seems). after he fell in the first life, mo ran made him his prisoner and took out both his anger and his lust on his once-shizun, and that’s where most of the warnings for dark content come into play. i’ll let you fill in the blanks.
of course, nothing is as it seems, and the truths mo ran built his previous life begin to fall apart under fresh examination. the most devastating? chu wanning never hated mo ran, and will give anything to protect him–literally–and those stakes couldn’t be higher. we soon learn this redux life isn’t going the way mo ran’s previous one went at all; someone else is getting a chance at a redo, too, and whatever they want, the danger to the people mo ran cares for is vast. he’ll have to get stronger fast to protect the people he needs to–and he’ll have to figure out who that is before it’s too late.
tl;dr and gentle warnings
tl;dr: take an evil emperor forced to relive his teens and twenties who spent much of his previous life exacting revenge on the world in general and chu wanning in specific, a cold shizun who actually feels 800 emotions a day but is too awkward to show any of them, and then throw in a lot of ghosts and demons, epic love, sacrifice, dire misunderstandings, incredible settings, fun side characters, a big mystery, and you’ve got 2HA.
anyway i would be remiss at this point if i didn’t warn a little bit: mo ran really was horrible in his previous life. nothing about this story is sanitized, but it’s also not gratuitous. this is basically character growth: the novel, and both mo ran and chu wanning have to go through hell first to get there. if you like hurt/comfort, you will love this. i actually really enjoyed reading those vignettes on who mo ran used to be and how compelling and yet deeply screwed up his relationship with chu wanning was then. it makes the payoff even better. also, some may find the initial age gap uncomfy since cwn is of ambiguous immortal-beauty age and mo ran starts as a 30+ year old in a 15 year old’s body. i didn’t care or find it distasteful since nothing happens until mo ran is well out of his teens. honestly, i feel like the only thing that really needs to be warned for is the fucking incredible amount of thirst that the main characters go through from chapter 140 on. i never read pining until i read this.
you will like it if…
you like the trope where one half of the pairing disdains the other half and blames them for something that wasn’t their fault and then the person being blamed does something self-sacrificial and the blamer realizes how wrong they were and tries to fix it, if you like character growth, if you like hurt/comfort and fluff, if you like fantasy, etc.
