hi everyone~ school’s started back up and i’ve got a bit of stress about money and things so both ilhoon and shik are going to be on hiatus for a month or so until i get things figured out, unfortunately :( i may be on for greetings and things but no guarantees :/
close encounters (you're beautiful) (5 times +1 style)

To be fair, Wonshik was trying his hardest to be absolutely humiliating in hopes of getting Bomi to crack, flail at his inane joking, but he thought he only ended up embarrassing himself in front of their friends.Sometimes he’s reminded delayed gratification is still awfully satisfying."Come on, it wasn't that bad, Bbom."His laughter is almost loud enough to cover the sound of any protests as he presses closer to her as she lies nearly prone on the sofa, almost surrounding her entirely as he takes hold of her hands still covering her face. His own cheeks are flushed with embarrassment too when he meets her eyes, and while his hands are firm as they hold her hands away so he can see her, they're gentle."I just wanted to make you squirm a little bit," he says softly, smile warm as ever even though his words are teasing. "Didn't know you'd get this embarrassed."He's nearly got her trapped against the couch, very nearly tugging her into his lap as he kisses her chastely, although only barely so, tongue still teasing at his lips as he pulls back, red and red against the pearly white of his teeth."...Cute."He doesn’t trust himself to say more than that.

He's not holding tightly enough to the bar above him when the train jerks, stopping a little more suddenly than he expects, and his grip slips. The car is packed, though, and so of course Sungjae is standing close when Wonshik stumbles forward, bumbling into him.Instinctively his free hand moves forward to stop himself from falling; he manages to catch himself with the other on the railing, but he's not able to stop himself from brushing almost completely against the warlock, hand clutched in his coat."Sorry, 'Jae," he mumbles, cheeks flushing a little at the sudden close proximity and his own lack of balance... But it still takes him a second to draw himself away, and a little longer still to untangle his fingers from the fabric, and he still can't keep himself from looking. He's seen Sungjae up close by now--closer than this, certainly--so he doesn't know why his heart rate is picking up so rapidly."Your mouth is really--" he starts to mumble, but trails off as his cheeks burn, realizing exactly what he’s said.“Nice,” he finishes, rather stupidly in hindsight. But the words are out and he can't bring himself to backtrack. He does pull himself back entirely and clings to the railing and the desperate hope his words were lost in the low rumble of chatter from the rest of the car.

The closet is dark and rather musty and there really isn't enough space for two people pressed in here, but neither of them really care as they both hold their breath at the clicking heels passing by.The lights in the outside hall dim and it's yet even darker in the supply closet but as his eyes adjust, Wonshik can just barely see the gleam of Ilhoon's eyes."What the hell are you even doing here, dumbass," his younger friend hisses, pushing against his chest. "You know unauthorized visitors aren't allowed here, Shikkie. Didn't you remember the first time when the head teacher kicked your ass out with a Machoke?" "Yeah, but they didn't catch me the second time," he grins despite that Ilhoon likely cannot catch the gleam of his teeth. Ilhoon grunts and Wonshik can feel his heartbeat start to slow again."I get in trouble as much as it is already--I don't need to be associated with you on top of that," he replies, voice tired."But it's good to see me, right, Hoon-ah?"Ilhoon reaches for the door handle and in the dim light of the hall his faint smile is illuminated."...It's always good to see you, Wonshik. Even if it means getting shoved in a fuckin’ broom closet with you."

When Wonshik blinks awake, the only light on in the living room is coming from the still muted TV. It quietly adds to the background noise of the air conditioner, but he can still make out the soft breath of the kid asleep next to him.Well, maybe to call him kid isn’t quite fair, but Minwoo seems rather small and innocent in the flickering light--Wonshik’s vaguely reminded of another friend, but he’s not sure if the comparison is quite fair to Minwoo--Ilhoon, after all, is pretty clearly not so innocent when he wakes. He’s not sure if he tucked against Minwoo in his sleep or the other way around, but he’s close enough Wonshik feels warm against him; he’s also not sure he should be so satisfied how his borrowed sweater is a bit too big on the younger. He’s still in that sleepy warm haze that he can’t remember how their casual discussion devolved into them both asleep on the couch, but now it’s dark and Wonshik can’t bring himself to wake his sleeping friend; he moves cautiously as not to wake him and scoops him up from the couch, tucking him against his chest with a careful arm under his knees.Wonshik’s awfully proud of himself that he managed to navigate the unnatural disaster of his apartment to drop Minwoo on his mostly made bed; he hardly makes it back to the couch before he crashes, falling asleep with Poochyena curled up against the small of his back.
( five | @jysanghyuk )
He can feel Sanghyuk’s pulse through both the wrists Wonshik currently has pressed against the carpet, not to mention because of how tightly he’s currently gripping them. His own heart beats at a rabbit pace from what he’s almost willing to admit is more than just the wrestling in some impromptu battle of strength--their contests never started out as something physical, always something skill based, so Wonshik doesn’t know how light pushing over a game devolved into them rolling on the carpet, or how this isn’t even the first time this has happened. (Though in all honesty, he’s lying to himself--even in the arcade the first time Wonshik certainly felt comfortable elbowing and shoving the younger; nothing too painful, but he’s always so drawn to touch with Sanghyuk.)He can feel sweat bead lightly on his neck but all he cares about is the surprised expression on the younger’s face as he strides his stomach, knees against the floor on either side as he fights the younger, actually using his full strength for once. He distantly thinks the universe is being rather unfair to him for pitting him against someone with absolutely none of his practiced skills, yet enough strength and weight to give him a challenge. It’s infuriating. He can’t help how his head spins with how giddy he is right now--he’d do well to analyze that but chooses instead to dig his fingernails a little deeper into the skin of Sanghyuk’s wrists, though he’s not even fully conscious of that.“I keep telling you not to test me, Sanghyuk,” he grins, voice dripping with challenge.
( ...plus one )
He should have known his victory would be short lived before everything is flipped around and Wonshik’s the one pressed against the carpet instead, white spots in his vision from more than just the slight bounce of his skull against the floor. He still gasps in surprise at Sanghyuk’s weight over him, seemingly effortlessly pinning him down though Wonshik knows the younger’s more than worked up by now (not that that’s a particularly hard thing to do--the fun of doing this with Sanghyuk is quite in part due to his eagerness to respond). The fan’s blaring cold, but he can tell the younger’s roots are even darker with sweat like his own hair. Though to be fair, Wonshik’s paying more attention to how Sanghyuk’s grinning triumphantly down at him and the white flash of his teeth--or is it his mouth in general? If he’s saying anything Wonshik doesn’t hear it, too focused on the way his lips curl (somewhere in the back of his head feeling bittersweet about how the one holding him back is the one he wants--and fuck if he’s examining that particular feeling, but damn if his thoughts aren’t trailing south--)He focuses on struggling for control instead of diving headfirst into the rabbit hole that’s that’s been opened up in the span of his mind for a while now. (He hopes it’s not cowardly to hope Sanghyuk’s the one to drag him down first.)
Wonshik’s still unsure how he’s in one of the nicer restaurants in Seoul, dressed as nicely as if he were about to leave for a contest or something even more formal. Sure, yeah, he was the one who dressed himself, and no one forced him here, but he’s not sure what it was that let himself be talked into this blind… date.
He still thinks his coworkers were possibly just messing with him until there is in fact a reservation with his name on it when he shows up--the hostess didn’t tell him the other name on the reserve other than to let him know he’s the first here (a detail that surprises him, but he is remarkably early for once). Part of him would rather not know who the other is; if he’s going to entertain this nonsense, he might as well entertain it fully and wait to see the person they’re set him up with whenever they arrive.
The white leather jacket he’s wearing felt rather excessive outside but he’s glad for it as he adjusts his position in the nice dining chair; restaurants like these always keep their rooms so chilly, but he supposes it makes sense with how long it stays hot now. Despite himself he’s rather excited--he doesn’t do dating, he keeps telling himself, this is just something to placate his coworkers, but he’s still curious after all their vague hints about his date… Some things about “flexible” and “strong” and “athletic” and “renowned in more than one aspect” with saucy winks from more than one of the people who set him up (and these are supposedly not the people in the erotica industry) made him splutter, but he wants to know what kind of person he should be expecting. He doesn’t even know their gender (which he supposes doesn’t particularly matter to him) but should he be expecting someone as tall as him? Some kind of bodybuilder, maybe? Perhaps they meant some kind of mental strength, but the writer in him makes his imagination run wild as he looks away, making him all the more startled when he realizes someone’s approaching the table.
The man is… shorter than he would have expected… and somewhat familiar looking?
He stands, jolting his chair a bit as he offers his hand to his apparent blind date.
“Hi, uh… I guess I’m your blind date? I’m Wonshik?”
What’s that question in your voice, Kim Wonshik?
“I mean... I’m Wonshik. It’s been… a while since I’ve done this kinda thing. I… wasn’t expecting--ah, um. Nice to meet you.”
Always can pride yourself on your smooth introductions, can’t you, dude?
luda bent down a bit and waved at the vanillite, “hi! you did great out there!” the coordinator said to show that she was friendly. she flashed a warm smile to the pokemon but he was too shy around her. maybe it was because ken was close to luda when she approached the ice type. “he is such a cutie.” she said as the vanillite went back into the pokeball.
“a cafe sounds great! i’m kind of hungry.” she said as she patted her stomach. she turned to the braixen and pet his fur. “i’m going to talk with wonshik for a bit okay and later we will all have celebratory picnic alright?” she said to the braixen. when ken nodded, luda smiled and withdrew him.
she took a deep breath when they finally reached the outside of backstage. they weren’t outside just yet but the cool air from the cooling system was fresh enough. backstage became very stuffy with all the coordinators hanging out. she followed wonshik outside and saw the cafe next to the hall.
“this is nice.” luda said walking in. after they ordered what they wanted, they took a seat in the cafe. “alright. let’s recap what happened in the contest.” luda said and took a bite out of the sandwich she ordered.
wonshik braces his hands around his iced coffee, crossing his legs as he reflects.
“i find it funny we did similarly despite not even being in the same category,” he laughs faintly, clicking his tongue before taking a sip. he sits back in the cafe chair, the cool metal frame pressing into his back.
“seems like ken’s been doing better but… couldn’t just make it up, right? hard to catch up when you fall behind, but vanillite and i had the same issue,” he says and shakes his head.
“been years since either of us have battled but sometimes i find myself asking vanillite to use moves like he would in a fight, but obviously that doesn’t go down so well here.” he sighs. “i feel like i--or we, both vanillite and i--should know better by now, but…”
wonshik turns back to luda with a chuckle and smiles reassuringly.
“you and ken seem like you’re doing pretty well though, so long as ken keeps trying to overcome that stage fright he’s got. hopefully with enough practice? i dunno as well about non-cool contests, but it seems like you have an idea about what you’re doing, luda. i feel like some of that’s just plain old bad luck. can’t predict everything another contestant’s going to pull in a round, right?”
“rude,” he huffs playfully, blinking up his friend and he pouts at the older. “you’re literally like two centimeters taller than me it’s not much,” he protests, though suddenly he’s very warm and there are arms around him and it takes him a good second or so to realize what had just happened and he immediately cringes.
“wonshik oh my god,” hongbin can’t help the immediate feeling of regret coursing through him at the thought that he definitely should’ve stayed behind the counter but there’s a warmth in his chest that he hasn’t felt in a long time – probably not since the last time they had talked over skype. it takes him a moment before he tentatively reaches up, hesitantly hugging the other male back and he wants to recoil and push wonshik away but at the same time he wants to pull him closer and he doesn’t know what this could mean.
there are a handful of odd feelings that he’s started to feeling during text conversations and skype calls with wonshik that he can’t really pinpoint but, he’s also pretty sure he doesn’t want to find out. the other male is his best friend, and he’s been that for a very long time and hongbin would very much rather keep it that way that change anything.
though, now that he was back, and timezones were no longer a thing, he’s sure that this friendship wouldn’t be as hard to maintain. especially since they could literally see each other whenever they wanted now.
he’s honestly not sure what else he had expected when he had come around the counter, considering his best friend had literally leapt over a couch when he had seen him at the counter. he thinks he knows what wonshik is trying to convey into the hug – which is the real reason why he’s not protesting too much, though he can’t help the whine that slips past his lips when it goes for a bit longer than he had expected.
when the hold around his shoulders is loosened, hongbin finds himself surprised to be a bit sad about it, though he’s glad he hasn’t been let go of completely. he doesn’t pull away despite being given the chance to and he glances up to meet the other’s eyes, wrinkling up his nose cutely. “youre making me regret it,” he teases, amused and he shakes his eyes, eyes bright.
unable to help the grin forming on his lips, he lets it grow and his dimples dent his cheeks at the smile on his face. “no, i’m glad i’m back honestly. i really sucked at english.”
“already? i do my job too well,” he smirks, drawing himself away and tucking one of his hands into a pocket, though a warm hand still rests on his old friend’s shoulder. (he can’t pull himself away completely even if he wanted to--but why would he want to? it’s been far too long.)
he laughs at hongbin’s broad smile, partially at his words, but mostly merely that some part of him is reassured by having someone else close to his heart physically nearby. he bites down on his lip just the slightest and his lips draw back into a softer smile.
“and here i was, ready to have you teach me a few choice phrases,” he sighs rather dramatically, far more animated than he normally is just from sheer excitement. “i guess i should just be glad i have you again.”
he tilts his head curiously.
“how’d you start working at a pokemon center, of all--no, wait--don’t let me ask you,” he suddenly cuts off his boisterous jabbering in embarrassment, his own words reminding himself that hongbin is still on the job and that he quite carelessly interrupted him.
“here, don’t let me keep talking to you and making a fool of myself--you got a front desk to attend, yeah?” he laughs, tucking his other hand into his pocket as well, rolling on the balls of his feet.
“say though, hongbinnie--you’ve already got a new phone here, right? give me your number, dude. i’ll text you my address or something and we can hang out later,” he says, pulling his phone from his pocket and offering it unlocked with a slight flourish to the other. he smiles and bites down again on the inside of his mouth.
“i get caught up with work and things, but i want to make sure i can make time for you now you’re back.”
“yeah, yeah,” he rolls his eyes playfully at the older male, grinning to himself at the altogether horrific image wonshik is presenting to him on the screen. “if that’s the definition of smart, of genius, i shudder to think what stupid people are like.” he snarks at his friend, eyes glinting with a playfulness that belies how little he actually means his words.
“you have to earn that respect first, hyung!” he teases with a grin as he coos at cleffa, unable to help but adore the little pink pokemon that reminds him so much of bomi. out of wonshik’s pokemon, he thinks that cleffa is one of his absolute favorites – it’s not like he has a soft spot for baby pokemon, no, of course not…
startled at the sudden jolting of the phone, he glances up in surprise to see a familiar figure running in his direction. quickly, he ends the facetime call, waving in return. “hyung!” he calls out, grinning widely. it’s been way too long since he’d seen wonshik last, and he can’t help but hurry forward those few extra steps to meet the other, arms automatically wrapping around wonshik’s middle when he sees the other male.
“it’s been way too long!” he exclaims softly, his eyes flashing with joy, obviously having missed the older male tremendously while he had been away in the states. never mind that wonshik was hongbin’s best friend, there’s something about wonshik that’s just inviting.
the way wonshik’s arms move to hug jinyoung firmly around the shoulders feels as comfortable as if it had been mere weeks instead of years since he’d seen the younger coordinator, the broad grin on his face settling into something less full but no less warm. He might not have known jinyoung very well when they knew each other as kids, but he’s more than happy to make up for it now (wonshik is especially excited to carry on coordinating discussions in person now.)
“ridiculously long,” he agrees, squeezing jinyoung a little tighter as if for emphasis.
he suddenly pulls back with a sharp noise of surprise, followed by a loud squeal of protest from the fairy in his jacket.
“hey!” wonshik whines, freeing the slightly smushed cleffa from the corner of his jacket, where he still tries to poke wonshik with his tiny paws.
“okay, okay, i’m moving back now,” he reassures the fairy, flashing jinyoung an amused look. the fairy shakes his fur and clings to one of wonshik’s fingers, blinking at jinyoung as if he’s surprised to see the man who was (in his small, baby mind) trapped in the phone before now in front of him. (the star-shaped pokemon seems to think it’s appropriate after a moment, and continues to squirm in wonshik’s hands as his owner unconsciously strokes the fairy’s ear.)
“can’t i just hug a friend without getting squeaked at?” he asks cleffa playfully, looking back to jinyoung.
“it’s really good to see you again. in person, i mean,” he says more seriously, clapping his friend amicably on the back. he presses cleffa to his chest with one arm and lets his other fall comfortably over jinyoung’s shoulders.
“let’s hurry up and get inside though--it’s getting too warm out already.”
he grins sheepishly even as he urges jinyoung into the cafe with a mumbled, “i’m starving.”
Thunder Badge - What is the toughest thing you’ve ever had to do?
Wonshik’s expression grows somber as he leans back in his seat, gaze distant.
“Leaving them behind.”
He couldn’t understand what the nurse was saying–his lungs burned, poison lingering in his chest from the smog. Every breath felt like he was inhaling more, like a pair of phantom arms constricting his throat, his torso.
All he could think about was what he could remember from the attack–the smog oozing into the dojang, visible but silent wisps across the floor that quickly billowed higher–the initial intake of poisonous smoke that burned his eyes and throat, painful but bearable at first as Nidoqueen bellowed and Lairon roared at his feet, unaffected by the foul air.
He couldn’t remember falling to the ground or when exactly it started feeling like there were knives cutting into his chest, but he recalled lying against the waxed dojang floor and the chaotic sounds of battle and the cries of his own Pokemon raging to protect him and the others. He still has a faint, blurry-eyed memory of Nidoqueen’s tail before him and her roar of pain before everything went dim.
In the center as the nurse guided him to lie back down, readjusting the IV in his arm, he could distantly hear someone pleading desperately–belatedly, he realized it was his raspy voice begging.
“Please let me go–They’re still out there–please. Please help me.”
The tears trailing down his cheeks felt like the acid burning in his lungs than anything else.
“I’ve made my peace with it, I think.”
He smiles, but for once, there’s a bitter tinge to the curl of his lips.
Rising Badge - Which Pokemon do you think would be the most fun to ride? (hehe)
Wonshik’s hands fly to his face, covering his eyes and cheeks as he stumbles back even sitting down.“Wha-what?” he barks, fingers moving to press against his temples as he blinks rapidly at the question scribbled on the scrap of paper in front of him. “That’s… that’s a little forward, but–wait…”Wonshik squints, and the color drains from his cheeks.“Oh, I–Pokemon…–never mind.” He removes his hands from his face hesitantly.“I guess… I haven’t really ever considered it.”Wonshik stares at the ceiling thoughtfully.“A Dragonair, maybe? Or something like a Milotic? Seems like it’d be a challenge to hold on.”
Wonshik stiffens.“I, uh, don’t really do dates.”The tips of his ears flush. “I don’t have time for that kind of thing? I’m a really busy guy and–I guess it’s not my style, I mean.”Against his thighs his palms warm where they curl against his jeans. He wipes them absentmindedly on the fabric.Wonshik opens his mouth to continue, but his eyes drift away; his gaze locks on something invisible beyond the asker’s shoulder and the furrow of his brow sags. He glances back down at the table, where his hands now sit and crack nervously.“I guess… if I really had to pick a date, I don’t think the location would matter. As long as my, uh–the other person I’m with is enjoying themselves, I’m going to be happy. Since they’re happy, you know?”His cheeks are nearly noticeably red as he looks back up at the asker, but his gaze is earnest and bright.“…That’s not stupid, is it?”
wonshik doesn’t always stray this far from seoul, but sometimes the best stories require a bit of traveling. he’s glad for the rather cool breeze in daegu on this particular afternoon that follows him as he departs from one of the city’s pokemon centers, ruffling his hair just the slightest. he tucks his phone back into his pocket after tapping out the rest of his notes related to the brief interview he’d given, grinning to himself at how much information the nurse had given him about a particular nature of chansey eggs. well worth the trip.
cleffa only slightly weighs down his light jacket, dozing comfortably inside as the coordinator chatters to his musharna floating behind him aimlessly.
“i honestly can’t believe we even call them eggs,” wonshik says to the psychic type, who bobs and seems to nod in agreement, though the tapir pokemon is probably half-asleep in actuality.
it’s probably best for him to catch the next train to seoul but wonshik can’t resist the smell of street food--he realizes he hasn’t eaten all day and all the egg talk has made him awfully hungry. so hungry in fact, he completely misses cleffa slipping from his jacket and tumbling down onto the street.
it’s not until he passes a pokemart with a half-eaten skewer of meat that he realizes his jacket doesn’t weigh as much as it should--he stares at musharna for a second with a “why didn’t you say anything?”--but the psychic only shrugs in a vague, pig-like way as wonshik pats his jacket frantically.
after running back to the stand and through the unfamiliar town, wonshik feels rather desperate--near the pokemart again he spots someone dozing under a tree. he hates to wake anyone from a good nap, but he’s desperate to find his small, helpless, little fairy.
“h-hey, man. i’m sorry to wake you up, but have you seen an especially small cleffa around here in the last, say, 20 minutes?”

Memes are under the cut! Please try to refrain from replying with one-liners as this is for character development.
she laughs softly – thinking that perhaps her original thoughts of tall, dark and handsome regarding wonshik were giving way to more of a tall, awkward and adorable. not that she minded of course, since adorable was something that was always nice in the opposite sex, and awkward wasn’t usually hard to get around with her personality and well, tall was usually a given considering her height. most males towered over her anyway, including all of her close friends.
it’s probably the sole reason why she had a (small) height complex, honestly.
the kiss must have used up all his gumption because he vibrates faintly at the noise bomi makes; he’s still not regretting this, but why does he feel so in over his head?
he lets himself be lead without a word, though he follows behind with an arm stretched a bit forward, hand tight in hers.
wonshik glances around the room just to do anything but stare at bomi. he pinches at the carpet with his toes, deciding that looking at them is safer than looking at the unmade bed, or at the girl holding his hand--but he’s always a glutton for punishment, so he follows the line of his arm to her anyway.
...she’s so small, but somehow feels bigger and intimidating in the smaller space, despite how open it is to the rest of the apartment. he resists the embarrassingly strong urge to curl up in the corner somewhere behind the slouching beanbag. he can feel his palm start to sweat in bomi’s, so he slips his hand away yet again to fidget with his other.
he makes a small sound of acknowledgment at bomi’s greeting, words not quite accessible at the moment--though it’s like all knowledge relevant to this sort of activity has been forcibly erased or relocated from his memory as well. (it… literally has been years now since he’s done something quite like this, hasn’t it? most of the memories are fuzzy now, though he supposes they were to begin with.)
he can’t remember what happens next, what he’s even supposed to do here; he knows what he wants, somewhere underneath his temporary panic, but getting there, even just reaching for bomi again feels like moving through quicksand. he… has to say something though. he can’t just stand here and stare at her all night.
“you’re--uh--really pretty,” are the words that make their way out of his throat, almost of their own accord. He immediately scowls at himself--of course she’s pretty. you already articulated something far better than that in the bar--and he can’t stop himself from covering his face for a moment as his cheeks burn in embarrassment.
“I’m sorry, i--it’s been. It’s been a long time since i’ve done… this,” he stumbles, voice trailing off. whatever this is.
It’s then he finds a hot coffee being dumped directly on his chest. He winces at the feeling. It burns enough that he reacts before he can really think about it. He hears the other apologize, but is too busy to respond right away. No, first he’s got to pull his shirt off completely and hold it away from him… He’s happy that the terrible, burning coffee is gone.
“Ouch…” He laughs a little now that he’s escaped the pain. “No worries, man. These things happen. You didn’t get burned, did you?” He’s smiling as usual. He knows that this poor stranger didn’t want to dump his coffee on him. That would be silly. So he’s certainly not going to be angry about it.
However, it suddenly dawns on him that he is now shirtless… And covered in more than just a few very visible scars. His expression drops and his face lights up bright red. Well… He got himself into this situation. He can’t really do anything about it now. He slowly pulls his arms over him self and stares at the ground. He laughs very awkwardly.
“Uh… S-Sorry. I didn’t think about-um-being shirtless. Awesome. Just great”
Wonshik feels like he’s moving in slow motion, stuck in place while he watches the other coordinator deal with his mess.
He’s completely dumbstruck by the marks across his skin, briefly wondering rather inanely if he somehow gave him severe burns from the coffee--how could it even have been that hot--but he realizes that obviously that’s stupid--something must have happened to him a while ago. His gaze lingers for a brief moment (the guy is more toned than Wonshik would have expected), but his head snaps back up to the coordinator’s face at the sound of his voice.
Wonshik’s fingers still hurt, but he just blinks at the other’s nonchalance. He opens his mouth, but only can manage a faint noise of acknowledgment.
He’s still drowning a little in guilt--how come this guy doesn’t seem to be that injured? Wonshik should be grateful, but…
At the other trainer’s flushed face and seemingly delayed reaction, Wonshik’s own ears burn and his limbs, though a little too loose, chose to cooperate with him again. (Oh, god, was Wonshik staring longer than he thought? He didn’t mean anything by it, but--)
“H-hey, it’s not a big deal,” Wonshik manages, withdrawing an outstretched hand when he thinks better of it.
How does he approach this? Internally, he flails for a moment like a beached Feebas, and doesn’t think how that shows on his features, eyebrows knit in a grimace. (He does step closer, an unconscious move to shield the stranger with his larger frame.) But maybe that’s the wrong thing to say too because this guy does look like he’s ready to panic--this is a big deal--and Wonshik finally realizes that he misunderstood the problem.
He doesn’t really even think about it--the jacket he has pulled over his dress shirt is a little oversized, so it’s easy for him to slip it from his shoulders.
“Here--this is my bad--take my coat. It’ll probably be huge on you, but better than nothing, right?” he says, holding the jacket perhaps too close to the other’s chest. He’s still a little tongue-tied, but he keeps his eyes fixed on the guy’s face determinedly.
“There’s a lounge that’s always empty over there if you wanna--uh--not be out here,” he adds, feeling like he’s rambling just a little bit.
Disappointment at Wonshik’s minor reaction aside (next time ─ he’ll get ‘em next time), Sanghyuk is all grins and snickering laughter at his hyung’s annoyance, even if he’s pushed off center a little by the nudging. Wonshik fixes it soon, anyway, pulling him forward so insistently; Sanghyuk has half a mind to put all of his weight into resisting just to make it as difficult as possible, but he’ll resist the temptation for now. “What’s the point in that, hyung? Isn’t it more fun with the surprise?”
The jab is met with an equally cheeky retort, even as he squirms a little in Wonshik’s hold: “I’m being nice and giving you a chance and your head’s already in the clouds! How’re you gonna focus on the game like that, hyung?” An ever cocky grin blooms. “Much less count how many drinks you’ll be buying me.”
His attention is already on the game at hand, a briefer glance given to the rules than what he spared the attendant outside an offhandedly courteous half-nod. Competitive blood only takes a few words to rouse, and his is already pumping even if this stall was an average kid’s game, really; he takes them all just as serious as any other, but it’s even better when it’s Wonshik he’s up against ─ not that he’d claim that to be the main source of his interest.
“The most in the time limit? Easy,” he laughs, almost excitedly leaning against the stand. “No rules outside of the defaults, right?” Not that Sanghyuk would cheat or anything like that, of course. “You sure you can see well enough for this, Shik-ah?”
There’s no doubt that he knows good and well what he’s doing, and he doesn’t even need that stupid grin to make it obvious. Riling up the competition ─ always Wonshik, really ─ was just as fun as the challenge itself.
It’s really not that hard to throw darts at balloons and stick to a few basic rules, but Wonshik is still somehow wired for this despite the easiness of the game, like the heat on his skin has seeped into his blood instead. Not because he thinks he’s going to lose--of course not--but maybe he’s feeding off Sanghyuk’s nerves or something. He’s pretty sure that must be it.
He nods in confirmation, leaning forward to grip the edge of the stand with both hands. Wonshik doesn’t put Sanghyuk above foul play, however--and in the back of his mind preemptively prepares a counterattack (y’know, just in case).
His own grin twists into a scowl at everything implicit in Sanghyuk’s jab, and he nearly bites down on his tongue in protest. Him? Old? Sanghyuk might act like a complete kid, but he’s hardly younger than Wonshik--who has the distinct urge to reach up and box his ears. (Oh, god. He’s even thinking like an old person in response.) Only Sanghyuk would talk down to him and barb him for his age in the same breath. If his blood were simmering before, now it’s practically bubbling in rage and competitive energy (and a stew of other things too much like mush to pick apart).
His mouth is still moving a little slower than his brain because all he can splutter out is an indignant “I--I’m farsighted, not--” before cutting himself off with an exaggerated groan of injury. Somewhere in the back of his mind he realizes no matter how he reacts he’s just feeding the fire further, but he can’t help but prod. Deep down some part of him enjoys the back and forth far too much, and he distantly wonders when exactly he picked up a taste for being so thoroughly disrespected.
Wonshik raises a hand up as if to smack him, but withdraws his arm before as if thinking better of it, clicking his tongue again. He picks up a dart, and somehow resists the urge to chuck it at Sanghyuk instead as the attendant goes to start the clock.
“Anyway, what exactly did you just call me, Han Sanghyuk? You wanna rephrase before I truly kick your ass?”
