in which manon bannerman— first chair clarinet and a complete loser, falls in love with the bitchiest girl alive– dream academy’s head drum major.
CHAPTER THREE— SESSION (.9K)
it was a wednesday– no, the wednesday where the first tutoring session would take place. it felt as if class times were divided in half as the periods abruptly came to an end.
wednesdays were the only weekday that dream academy’s band students had a break. rehearsals were rigorous and tiring, so it was only fitting for a relaxing day off.
currently, manon stood at the mirror, hands trembling slightly as her brain raced with unnerving thoughts. yoonchae was to her right while megan lingered uninterestedly behind the pair.
yoonchae quickly applied tinted chapstick to manon’s barren lips, instructing the girl to smack them together to rub the product in.
“manon, didn’t y/n say go to her dorm after class?” megan spoke suddenly, gesturing towards her watch as the time was 10 minutes following the final bell.
“she can’t show up looking dead!” yoonchae interrupted. she had long moved past the lip stage and was currently raking a pleasant-smelling conditioner in manon’s hair.
manon rolled her eyes, “rude much, chip?” she said jokingly, staring at herself in awe as her curls framed her face beautifully.
yoonchae smiled widely, soon finishing and forcing manon out of the dorm. “good luck!” she shouted while megan gave a reassuring shoulder pat.
manon looked and felt great. her outfit was a little basic– with it just being a black hoodie and jeans that didn’t fit her at all, but it was doused in one of her more expensive perfumes, so, that topped it off.
though, as she walked hurriedly to your place, there was a tiny voice pacing around her thoughts reminding her of all the possible negatives.
“fuck manon! just chill!” she whispered to herself as she soon approached your door.
there was a stark contrast in housing aesthetics at dream. it seemed as if the higher on the popularity food chain you were, the more lavish your decorating and dorm size would be.
manon felt off even touching the entrance. yet, she hesitantly knocked, regretting her life. the door swung open and she was met with your annoyed, yet strikingly gorgeous face.
“you’re late.” you seethed, pulling manon in and closing the door harshly. “i swear to god if yoonchae recommended me bulls—“ you muttered under your breath, though manon could hear every last word.
“no!” she gasped. “she didn’t– i swear! i just couldn’t find your dormitory!” she assured, looking at your feet as she was too afraid to make eye contact.
“whatever,” you mumbled. “just shut up and follow me.”
manon trudged after, noticing the slight sway in your hips as she followed closely behind. she resisted the urge to touch you as you smelled great and your hair looked near perfect.
you led her into what she assumed was your bedroom, which was almost as put together as you. she examined the walls, polaroids of you and your friends arranged neatly among the area, with a few posters there also.
your bedroom was double the size of hers, she didn’t know whether to be jealous or fascinated by how spacious and well-organized it was.
you pointed at a couch with a glass coffee table filled with work in front of it, “sit down.”
she quickly sat on one side while you placed yourself on the other. “so–uh.. what do you need help with?” she questioned, voice slightly cracking.
“are you blind?” you asked, more rhetorical than anything.
“okay, then obviously what’s two inches from your face..” you continued, scooting way closer to her and picking up the unfinished worksheets.
‘she smells good.. who would’ve guessed,’ you thought, noticing how different she looked compared to the school day. ‘i know she didn’t go and change..’ you grimaced.
a few hours later, you two had gone through a bunch of the work. manon explained a plethora of things you needed to get back on track. it all started to make sense to you.
the sun was near setting, causing the room to darken a bit. you checked the time on your phone, it was way past whatever unsaid study-session ending time you had mentally came up with.
mid rant, you interrupted manon’s explanation. “manon.”
her head snapped towards you, her stomach fluttering as you had finally said her name in that sweet venomous voice, “uhm, yes?”
“let’s stop.” you commanded, noticing how her expression slightly softened. she looked almost upset.
“oh, okay!” she said enthusiastically, though, it was obviously faux.
you frowned, “what’s with your tone?” you asked, bringing your manicured nails up to her face and moving her curls to the side.
manon was freaking out internally, “what?” she flinched at the sudden contact.
“i dunno.. you seem upset or something,” you pushed, guiding your hand to her jaw and forcing her to look at you.
you could see awe and fear in her eyes, “don’t tell me you’re actually enjoying this, fucking freak!” you snarled, pushing her head back down roughly and pulling the both of you up.
before she could get a word in, you were back to your spiteful comments. “i really hope you’re not a fucking lesbo or something,” you snapped.
“because i’d kill you if you ever thought that you were even on the same level as me to where you’d feel comfortable liking me.” you smiled maliciously.
“bye now.” you finished, grin widening as manon rushed out of the room.
