Quickly making his way up the ladder against the well, looking around to ensure no one was watching he climbed out before taking his place amongst the citizens of Cheydinhal as he made his way to the gates. Lucien wasn’t exactly always a conspicuous figure, not when he wore his Black Hand robes, even as he was dressed in his travelling gear, he had a distinct air. What he wore was close to the attire a citizen would wear who had to make a long journey, light armour over his dark linen clothing, a sword clearly worn around his belt. What remained underneath was a network of daggers, there was a slight opening in the side of his pouch that was also attached to his belt which contained a pair of deadly daggers, as well as an even sharper blade on the inside of his left boot. Even if the brotherhood had to lead dual lives to keep their secret, it didn’t mean he would be any less careful. Sensing someone watching him walk by his cold, lifeless eyes met theirs, would it be an encounter or simply a glance? It was their move.

Holding a hand across his chest he took the time to slowly sit up in the armchair, stretching out his legs on the ground before him. There wasn’t much he could do at a hospital, no more than he was being asked to do which was wait. Lucien’s physiology was different from most, his lungs were stronger, and his blood at times when exposed to certain conditions could turn purple. It had all happened so quickly, he had landed in an open clearing in the middle of nowhere, having shifted to his humanoid form when he was attacked by masked individuals. Whilst he easily disposed of them, the wound left across his chest caused by a spear had not finished healing for some strange reason. It was a calculated risk, being amongst humans, but he wanted to see if modern medicine could be of any assistance.

Holidays were not common for the assassin. He lived for his work, going from one day to the next, the thrill of the next contract and being able to serve his family feeding his soul more than any recreational activity ever could. Madrid was not an ideal place for a hunt, it wasn’t his favourite, he preferred the darker less known places, a long-forgotten settlement in which not many had returned, now that would be a tale for the ages. Walking along the beach the closest to the hotel he had been staying in Madrid he wondered if fate would deliver him the target or if he would have to spend the next few days searching every crevice, not that he minded he found the hunt thrilling. Bumping into the nearest person he took what he could from their wallet with practised grace, apologising before moving on.

It was surprising to him, to have gotten to know someone else so well to ask them out on a date. At first, it had been stolen glances, and whispers and now, he found himself obsessed with the other man. The real question was, if he ever found out the truth about his… other activities, would he accept it? Lucien had never attempted to have a relationship before, he believed that they would get in the way of where his true devotion lay, to his assassin family. Sat at a small table at an Italian restaurant with a glass of red wine he rose to his feet as his date arrived. “You look lovely, please take a seat, as for its cost do not fear” for someone else would be paying.

The Void, what a beautiful and endless nightmare it was. Lucien remembered the day he was slain by his brothers and sisters as if it had happened only the day before and not hundreds of years before. Their blades had cut deeper, his screams head echoed until no more would his screams leave his mouth, he remembered the glee on their faces. When he had felt himself first fall into the cold embrace of the Void he felt at peace, as if he had been where he was destined for all along. As he looked at the dark elf he pondered on the fate of the current generation of dark brothers and sisters. The ghostly assassin materialised from behind, a clear voice in the darkness. “Preparations for your next contract are going well, I trust?”

Stories around the fire, whispers from friends, the passing comments of strangers, to Lucien it was the same at the end of the day, deep down, those with the darkest of secrets even if it was only a small part, yearned to confess, for it to be known. Whilst he was not receiving a juicy confession that he would be able to share with his brothers and sisters, Coldharbour did hold some interest. He was no scholar, no mage, he was a loyal follower of Sithis. When it came to his love for his family and the Night Mother, nothing could compete. This didn't mean he wasn't allowed other interests, on the contrary, if he saw the opportunity to learn he often took it. “So, how did you survive such a journey to Coldharbour? If your story is true, how do you stand before me, stranger?”

Privacy, true privacy was a difficult task these days, especially since the Oblivion Crisis. It felt as if in each corner one of the Imperial guards would be lurking, ready to report on your actions. As part of an early contract, Lucien had infiltrated the Bravil city prison and then escaped once his contract was complete. This was infiltration of a different kind, one of normalcy. The current game is a different affair, he was an assassin amongst commoners at a grand event at the local tavern. Weaving his way amongst the crowd his boots slid across the polished floors. The cold-hearted Lachance was not there to take life, no he was there in another capacity entirely. Information, the brotherhood had received a strange contract, to eliminate the lost corpus survivor, they could not be sure what this meant, no one truly survived the disease surely? Even Lucien had found it cryptic at least, the Night Mother had offered no insight and remained silent. Having tracked down a connection, one rumoured to know of the disease and information they sought, Lachance approached the one whose description he had been given. “Charming day, is it not.” A statement.

It was most treacherous, his line of work. Those who danced the line between life and death could never be certain when the latter would come for them, nor what form it would take. Slowly taking his dagger from its sheath he approached his target, scanning from side to side to ensure the coast was clear. The dagger had a dark metallic handle with a dark red bloodstone on the end, fancy but also a statement, to him he carried the blood of those he had slain in the name of the Dark Brotherhood. Wasting no time he leaped forward, slamming the target into the wall as he held the blade against his back, twisting it. “I will be given a bonus for asking this, any last words?”

The dragon rolled his shoulders as he sat at the table of the fairly prestigious restaurant in his human form. Such a time ago, he would have hated to take such a form, compared to his reptilian self, it seemed so feeble and weakened, and the way his wings had to shrink and twist to even have a semblance when he had to blend in wounded him. Such thoughts crossed his mind as he drank from his glass of red wine, pondering what he would do with his week under the American skyline. He would bring back something for his son, yet it would take some time to find something he would appreciate when he was older. Looking over his shoulder as he poured himself another glass he scanned the room for anyone of interest. “Who may I raise a glass with?” he asked out in the open.

Meticulously cleaning the coffee mug in his hands he looked out at the customers who had decided to come to Cafe Noire. Amongst them, he knew the majority of the faces, very much of the shady kind and whilst they were useful contacts to have, to the unknowing and the unwary, they were dangerous indeed. To those in the know, the true function of the Cafe was known and very much used as a place to broker contracts, to the rest it was a cafe of the highest quality. Hearing another customer enter he looked up with a plain greeting of a smile, he acted the part to the letter. “Hello sir, what can I get for you today?” he asked another standard greeting, what would follow after would depend on the customer.
