after several days of not much to show, I now have these unimpressive sketches, but it’s full of new stuff so yeah, I’d prefer my concept art to be simple so I can iterate and do stuff quicker, I try to leave finer details to higher effort stuff, enjoy!
To elaborate on what’s going on from left to right, I give some loose internal details on the bunnypede hip structure, like most body parts, are derivative of their somatic-columns, they also get very fluffy during winter.
Their rear end can bend around slightly, like a stiffened arthropod abdomen, it twitches and moves (usually involuntarily) when mad, agitated, or scared, this emphasizes their tail fuzz, the fuzz around their currently not-designed genitals has very light fuzz (sort of like most bare human skin, or the skin on the leg segments after their thighs)
I also decided to draw some poses to show the flexibility of these guys, many spec evo aliens feel/are-drawn way to stiff, folks often under estimate stuff like that
Their fuzz will take on a variety of colors and patterns based on race, I’m still not sure if they should just have different tones or if the colors they have should be a bit more diverse racial color schemes or of it should be a single hue, I have a good amount of time to figure that out.
Female Bunnypedes tend to lay 3 eggs, though they may lay more or less, currently they’re largely just a copy of earth’s amniote’s eggs. Their babies are hairless and about as helpless as human babies (I currently call them kits like baby rabbits)
Since their conceptualization, I’ve imagined Mergators being metamorphosing sophonts, being odd little arthropod thingies, their larva would be similar to more ancestrally members, but this specific part of the concept art is a bit confusing, it sorta just represents a more ancestral form of their phylum and their larval stage (but I will probably make them very different by the time I’m done with them)
I’ve made some more definitive sketches of how Steedhorn limbs and feet (for the front 2 pairs of limbs) will work, the hands and feet being a single digit with a couple fleshy extensions that have improved their dexterity, the limb on their hind foot is not designed right now
I’ve also been unhappy with the steedhorn arms since I gave bunnypedes their extra pair of arms as they are visually similar, I want these aliens to be as different to eachother as they are to us, it thing their lowered, more sprawling (but hopefully not raptor-like) arms are better looking than what they had previously
the rest is just miscellaneous cultural sketches for bunnypedes
