i want sapphic women to look at me in public and think ‘i hope she likes girls’
thinking about yuri right now
when peak references peak or something
There’s such a fixation on queer shows/movies requiring a kiss for it to be officially gay otherwise it’s bait. And that’s such a limited mindset of digesting media idk. The couple in Your Name doesn’t kiss either yet no one doubts that film being romantic and I think kaguya/iroha yearned harder. If you made it hetero no one will question it being romantic but queer couples always have to prove their queerness in a romantic manner or else it’s not valid.
I noticed this when tshd anime was coming out but I think it’s very prevalent with wlw content. And I think it’s because there’s this assumption that female friendships are more loving & affectionate. So hard evidence like a kiss is “needed” for it be yuri. Them saying I love you, I want to marry you, I want to be with you isn’t enough. You can tell which yaoi & yuri enjoyers were not in the trenches in the early 2000s and the 2010s.
That was a great movie!!!
Probably gonna rewatch this. Because the longer I think about the ending, the more I realize that I missed a lot of details at the beginning.

You're telling me there were over 7000 simulations (basically the whole 9 months) and Shaw couldn't kill Root once? Not once?
Samaritan literally corrupting her into murder and showing the machines location and didn't think that if it had just stopped trying to get her to murder Root it probably would have caused the outcome it wanted.
Shaw literally murdered Reese hundereds of times yet ask her to kill Root and nope- she's eating a bullet as her last meal.
Wild.

For all that Yang comes across as kind of flirty in the beginning of the show, I'm fairly certain that she's never been in any kind of romantic relationship before (including flings). She's had so much on her plate for years, and just hasn't had the emotional capacity for it. It's definitely never been a priority.
She's had to take care of Ruby, her dad, and the occasionally wasted Qrow since she was small. She's been dedicating all her extra time to finding her mother, or studying and training to get into Beacon. It is a top school with high academic standards for entrance outside of Oz's eccentricities. Yang got in on her own skill and academic prowess.
Yang is very much putting on a mask during most of the early seasons, in a way, pretending she's the stereotypical dumb, funny, and unserious blonde. Even as late as Vol 8, Ren calls out her unserious front. The way her outfit style radically changes as she moves further and further away from that, emphasizes the reality of that.
I think this connects directly to her sexuality. To me, Yang feels like her 'heterosexuality' in very beginning was just another part of her performance of happy normality she felt she had to play, Even if it might not have been a conscious decision. She wasn't hiding her sexuality. She'd just never given romance enough attention to think anything about whether she actually likes guys or not.
Then came Blake, someone that for the first time got close enough to make it past that mask. She fell in love for the first time in her life, and she got scared. She struggles to be vulnerable when its not for the sake of others, and despite that wall Blake managed to make it through and then break that trust she had been given. And Yang didn't know how to handle these entirely new feeling and struggles she was experiencing for the first time.
