X-Bolt 300WM. New set up for an up-and-coming New Mexico gemsbok oryx hunt with @cole.tac . Having some accuracy issues with the platform. If you swipe you can see my group at 400 yards. It’s not very consistent. The labradar was reading 3160 muzzle velocity. Sig Sauer Elite Hunter with the 180 grain Nosler e-tip. Hitting low on the plate on the initial dope check. Put the muzzle velocity on the box into the calculator, 2960, and started hitting center around impact. That’s weird.
Using @sigsauerinc 30mm rings. They are a cast ring with a recoil lug made out of sheet metal. They don’t sit on the picatinny rail properly; they look crooked. The clamping mechanism doesn’t seat on the Picatinny correctly either. This could be an issue for accuracy absolutely. I ordered some Badger Ordnance rings that will come in on Monday and I will have to get this gun zeroed and dope checked again. Going to clean out the copper fouling and run a fresh zero on Monday. I wouldn’t recommend buying these 30 mm rings for anything super precision. The Sig Sauer Rings look like hot garbage. They don’t even seat onto the Picatinny.
Not too worried about the barrel or the ammo. Will perform a barrel break in a little bit more thoroughly before copper fouling cleaning and the re-zero.
Need to have this all buttoned up and consistent at 400 in a 5-inch kill box.

Just my experience, but the Badger rings are well worth the added expense. Warne and Weaver HD (if they even make those anymore) are good too.
Rings are tricky sometimes... especially on harder recoiling rifles and handguns. I've got a set of Ruger high rings on my .44mag SBH Hunter (the Hunter series has a rib for mounting ruger rings, and I went with high rings so I could retain my factory sights) and even torqued to their recommended specifications, they still allow a scope to walk in the rings under recoil.
I've also got a Leupold MK4 LR/T 4.5-14x40, 30mm tube, mounted on my Remington 700 Long Range in 300RUM, using Warne HD rings and a steel Weaver one piece picatinny base. It's been flawless, but I still check it before every range trophy with it to make sure everything is tight.
