One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.

every time i'm watching a show that involves any law enforcement investigating instances of abuse i'm unable to *fully* enjoy it because it's just such a stark difference from reality.

one such instance i'll never forget- my mom called the police because of a man dragging a woman (girlfriend most likely) by her hair into the woods. with description, the police informed her that these people were 'most likely part of the local homeless population'. they said this as if to clarify: we are not even going to pretend to care about this (most likely) murder. my mom was distressed about this for a while and looked around the area again later on but both the man and woman were gone at that point.

I wish they would realize that universal healthcare doesn’t mean they HAVE to get healthcare through the state, just that it is there. You can still pay millions of dollars out of pocket for your own treatment at a private hospital.
