Dirty Laundry: Why Adults with ADHD Are So Ashamed and What We Can Do to Help by Richard Pink and Roxanne Emery
Executive dysfunction is kinda wild some times what do you mean I have a ziploc bag of pasta in my fridge because washing the one Tupperware I own would have dealt too much psychic damage
After finishing Babel, I find it truly strange that I cannot seem to take my mind off of Professor Margaret Craft out of all characters.
I think the reason for my gravitation towards her, my affection for her, is because she was what Letty could’ve been
Coming out as a Swiftie as in Robin Swift
I can't get letty's chapter out of my head. I can't forget all her struggles as a girl and woman in a misogynistic society. How she is discriminated against in a way that robin and ramy would never understand. Because despite coming from races white people find inferior, at the end of the day, they are still men, and are therefore afforded the level of respect and recognition they would never be willing to give letty. And I understand and empathize and resonate with all of these.
But my first thought after reading letty's chapter is she did not mention victoire, not even once. After everything she learned, after everything victoire told her, she still failed to realize that everything she experienced, victoire also did—even worse. Victoire, the friend that she spent the most time with, was not only discriminated against because she's a woman, she was also discriminated against because she's not white. After everything, letty only sees the advantages robin and ramy had for being men, refusing to see all the ways society was shunning victoire. this isn't the oppression olympics ofc, but how can she not see victoire's pain? how can she only see robin's and ramy's privelege. how can she fail to acknowledge victoire's struggles and pain until the very end. how can letty, despite being victoire's friend, refuse to see her pain just because she refuses to acknowledge her own privelege.
she is so convinced that her struggles are unique that she can't wrap her head around the fact other people, people she considered friends, have suffered as much, or even more. she can't see that her struggles were caused by a system that is so interwoven with the systems hermes were fighting against that they might as well be the same thing—because frankly, they are. she only sees her own pain and how she's come so far to overcome everything. she thinks she's alone in her battle that she just can't see how so many others have been fighting similar battles against the same opponents. she can't see how hermes is not sabotaging her fight for freedom and respect, but are fighting the enemy letty does not even realize she also has to fight to truly and meaningfully gain the respect and freedom she wants.
does anyone else ever think about how the daguerreotype picture of Robin's cohort goes to die with him, while Griffin's letter lives on with Victoire? how she gives him the photo, because he's the one who can't live after what he's lost, while, hard as it is, she's ready to leave them behind and keep going. how meanwhile, the letter was meant for Robin who never even read it, unable to look to the future like Victoire
how the friendship is gone, but the need for revolution continues
because I do, and now I'm crying again
girl you're okay?
no, i just keep on thinking of how “loving her was like an exercise in hope” and now im crying myself to sleep
“‘Cause I ride for you, Charli” is something that can be so personal
I live my life in a constant state of grief of what I did, what I didn’t do, and what I can never do.
ur honest opinion on solar power full album?
okay SO . sorry for avoiding this ask I literally didn’t listen to it until last night bc I was busy ummm LOL
I have mixed feelings about it??? I mean The way ppl were shitting on it I fully expected it to be way worse than it was. It was…. Fine. Like that’s it. It was fine.
I mean of course we could get into the fact that it’s embarrassing - problematic, sure, but mood ring is just kind of an embarrassing attempt at satire, and domino, appropriating the sounds of fucking BLM protests for the ~aesthetic~ is infuriating - but even cringier … it’s embarrassing??? Like out of touch rich white singer embarrassing, “it’s one banana, how much could it cost?” embarrassing, white Twitter user appropriating AAVE embarrassing, embarrassing bc it tries so hard be clever and just fails pathetically . But I digress…
The album is… fine . I know I can’t stop saying that but that’s really what it is???? Its peak mediocrity. I’ll contend that its, IMO, better than most generic white pop. I’ll probably add some songs to some mood playlists. I do like stoned at the nail salon and secrets from a girl and fallen fruit and the path and whatever. They’re fine. But knowing that Lorde is capable of creating masterpieces like she did w Pure Heroine and Melodrama, this album is just such a disappointment !! Which isn’t to say it’s the worst thing I’ve ever listened to - I still prefer this to some unnamed white pop girlies but there’s very little heart in it, so little soul, it’s just so bland. It’s like the Instagram of albums.
At the same time, this is how people felt when lana made lust for life and NFR, this is how people felt when marina made FROOT and L+F and ADIAMW and Lady Gaga made Joanne and …here’s the thing. I like the song solar power, I like the vibe, I even genuinely like some of the songs on the album. But before we even knew how insensitive and white the album would be, before everything, when we just had solar power the song, the biggest critique about the music was that people didn’t like the way it sounded. Which is the same critique people had with Lana and marina and lady Gaga and whoever. People whos fanbase loved them for creating great music, yeah, but also for creating emotional, melodramatic, sad music. Everyone wanted marina to go back to Electra heart and Lana to be sparkle jump rope queen again (I use them just as examples)… I think this has something to do with people defining themselves with sadness. Nobody wants happy music! So when people get used to sadness, when they find comfort in it, it’s very polarizing for the audience to suddenly see their sad girl idol now happy and warm and suntanning. That is to say, I think I got more enjoyment out of lordes lousy comeback album because I’m not sad anymore. I relate to warmth and happiness and friendship and love, isn’t that great!!!!!! But here’s the other thing: it’s just not that good. Im the ideal audience for this album, and even I think it sucks majorly!!!!!!! As a happy person who can enjoy happy music, this album does very little for me. It doesn’t compel me. It means nothing to me. I think, initially, people did let their hopes fall for the album when they realized Lorde was no longer sad and sulking (which is annoying ngl), but I also think that Lorde kind of just proved them all right by making a shitty album.
And that’s besides everything, besides how insensitive it is, how white it is, how out of touch and disgusting it is for a white artist to use the sounds of BLM protests in her music, how much of it is just white fantasy over white fantasy. It’s peak white artist in their ivory tower. And going back to the thing about how people move away from artists when they appear to be happier, I think that happens in many instances because when these white artists are no longer sad... They have nothing substantial to make art about anymore. Which is why lana and marina and Gaga bounced back, because they proved they still have a personality beneath all that sadness. I don’t hate Lorde, but this album is kind of revealing, don’t you think?
I think Lorde was really capable of making a ‘healing’ album that was heart wrenching and memorable and good - but she just didn’t. She just kind of ended up making this flimsy mess of an album that’s too white for her audience to stick with, and that’s such a shame because we all know she’s capable of greatness :/ this album just. Sucks. And doesn’t suck. It’s coweringly middle of the road. Which is kind of worse than sucking.
TLDR: 3.8/10
Wait I didn't know about the BLM one! Where did you get that? Also why did you think Mood Ring is a bad attempt at satire? /gen /nm
i sing "maybe i'm just stoned at the nail salon again" with a lot of conviction for someone who has neither ever been to a nail salon nor ever been stoned
Hi. I'm Naya. I'm a 05L and I'm from Indonesia. I was wondering if any of you have like a group or a community where you share your poems. I like to write, but I really don't know the technicalities and the theories of writing. I just write freely. Sometimes--often, really--I'm not confident about my writing, I often ask myself "can this even be considered a poem?". Even though I'm from Indonesia, I enjoy writing in English more.
So I don't know if this will reach anyone but I would really love to join a community that knows poetry and can give me honest feedbacks. Oh also, I write for fun and don't really have any intention of making an occupation out of it. But who knows? ;)
The image above is one of my writing. I wrote it the day after I went on a reunion with friends from an old school and seeing my best friend crying because she was uncomfortable with one of our male friends--who happen to be my kinda ex--'s treatment towards her. He intentionally stood beside her when we were taking a group picture and she was clearly uncomfortable. He also asked not only one, but also multiple pictures with her and they took the picture in front of me. I don't know if she's crying because it's been years and she's felt so helpless and powerless around that guy or because she felt guilty that my ex is more interested in her than me. But regardless that guy knows what he's doing and I honestly can't understand why won't he leave the poor girl alone. I also couldn't help her because honestly I'm still struggling with my own bad experiences with him. Thank God our other friend--who DESPISE men--is there to protect her. I still feel guilty, though. That's why I accompanied her everywhere because that was the least I could do.
I have this habit, words and scenarios naturally just flows in my head. It just does. Even when I just woke up, in the middle of a class, or when I'm about to go to sleep. Movies can be really triggering I had to pause and daydream for a while. Songs are somewhat triggering too. BUT THE POINT IS (forgive me for running off topic) I had the words flowing in my head when I was riding my motorcycle home from that reunion. The words felt so intense and clear I just had to write it down the next day and that poem (?) happened.
I want to see Kamilah Sayeed and Olivia Nevrakis become best friends so bad.
PLEASE DO NOT THINK FOR EVEN A SECOND THAT YOUR VOICE WILL NOT HAVE AN IMPACT THIS IS LITERALLY THE BARE MINIMUM
I'm sorry for putting this in the BLM and stop Asian hate tag but in the last few days posts tagged with "Palestine" have not been showing up.
Is it just me or no one talks about OPH anymore.... anyway there's no Ethan today. Well technically if u choose to spend time with him you'll see him, and his name is still in discussion but there's no him today.

@playchoices I'm begging you, please change the icon of the app. It's--to be frank--disgusting.
Please change it to something less racy.
Thank you.
