Advice on how to console friends because plenty of people simply aren’t good at it for no malicious reason.👍

You can rarely shoot straight for “cheer up” or giving advice, the first thing to do is validate. Try to match the energy and feel sad/angry/painfully laugh with them. They need to let out their frustration first.

After it’s all out, then you can try and give what you think is helpful advice. they might take it, but they also might shut it down, if they do, then advice is not what they need and you should keep it to yourself. They might ask for your advice later when they want it, but if you’re really concerned, tell them MUCH later when they feel better.

If you have the type of friendship that is emotionally honest with eachother. You could ask right away if they just want to vent or if they want feedback. (I do that with my friend but we’ve established that it’s something we can do before) That kind of question with no former context can cause overthinking)

We all slip up and say the wrong thing sometimes, don’t beat yourself up about it👌
