I have come to a conclusion…

I really don’t think that originally Ben Solo was supposed to die in TROS - no matter what Abrams says.

It’s why Rey did not mourn. Why we never saw his Force ghost. Why his ‘death’ was such an anti climax. 

Why in the art book there is no ‘conceptual art’ showing his death.

Ben Solo in the original script was meant to live.

This has been a popular theory since TROS was first released. Many have speculated that the ending was changed in post production. The editing of that scene feels off. The music feels too happy. And later when Rey rejoins the resistance, Finn and Poe are stating at her in shock, as if Ben was originally supposed to be with her.

I’ve seen more than one person talking as if Rey need to earn Ben’s love and she failed. I’m sorry, but love isn’t earned or owed. Love is bestowed. Ben chose to love Rey, regardless of whether or not you think she deserved it.

Reylo is canon

Doesn’t matter what anyone says about our ship, doesn’t matter if the media hates it, or if certain actors hate it, antis and fanboys etc. It doesn’t change the fact that Rey and Ben kissed and canonically love each other. Celebrate my fellow Reylos because victory is ours. And even though the ending was trash in the way it destroyed character arcs, it doesn’t change the fact that Reylo romance is legit.

This kiss is perfect because -

1.) The way Rey hesitates, after years alone, it takes her a moment to work up the courage for her first kiss.

2.) The way Ben doesn’t hesitate, the way he waits patiently for her to work up the courage and then the moment she is ready, he reaches out and holds her in a deep embrace.

3.) THE SMILES. Need I say more, we have literally never seen Ben or Rey this happy in their entire lives.

4.) Rey’s hand. The way she strokes Ben’s face and hair like he’s precious and worth savoring.

This kiss is more likely than not the first for both of them, it’s tender and hopeful and pure. They are both almost child-like in their affection. This is also easily the most built-up to kiss in all of Star Wars, their intimacy is far far beyond Anidala or Hanleia who both had major communication problems and ultimately were destructive. Reylo is easily the most intimate and selfless and the most healing Star Wars relationship.

I will cherish this forever. It is now known that Ben and Rey shared the single most beautiful kiss in the entire series and that Ben gave his very life essence to Rey because his love is that absolute and that selfless. (I fucking dare you to call him an abuser now, I DARE you!) Their love is everything and it lives on in the force and in our hearts.

Here’s what I love about this kiss:

The whole movie, the whole trilogy, Kylo has been asking Rey for something. Asking for her allegiance, her companionship, her understanding, her growth.

But Ben. Ben asks nothing from her. Ben only gives. He gives her his LIFE. And he doesn’t go in for a kiss, or anything else. For him, it’s enough just to look at her; for her to be alive.

That’s love. Giving. And it’s perfectly, beautifully illustrated here.

and I am also perfectly fond of the moment right after she ends the kiss,  when he is  still under her spell. He has this far away dreamy like eyes look.
