Let me preface this by saying that I don’t celebrate Christmas, nor have I ever wanted to, but I think decorating trees with little shiny balls is 10/10 holiday activity.

I don’t really understand the part where you have to cut down the tree and bring it inside, but I love it when people give their outside trees cute little festive bobbles for the winter.

More and more I'm starting to see why various alter/nonhumans but especially older ones become disillusioned and distanced from communities online

We can't as a community even discuss boundaries and how we don't need a new word for everything without the talk dissolving into calling it 'stupid' and 'not that deep' and 'basically bullying' for airing a pet peeve about the word 'everypuppy' and similar

What it comes down to is a lot of community members with low emotional resilience are not able to tell the difference between 'this is hard for me to hear, because I do that' and 'this is a personal attack on me'

If you want to use paperclips, use archival brass paperclips. Regular ones will go rusty over time.

Also, if you have any family heirlooms, write down where they came from and who made/bought/owned them along with any other cool stuff you know about them and store that info WITH the heirloom. If you have relevant photos, include those too (or copies). That way, the family lore won't be lost. And if you or your relatives ever want to offer them to a museum, you'll stand a far greater chance of the museum being interested.

hey so i read part of the student's essay and i want to add a few things:

it was a 0 out of 25 points. that's not even a huge deal.

she only wrote 650 words.

the girl didn't do the actual assignment; she just wrote what she felt like and submitted it.

the class was a PSYCHOLOGY course yet her essay was about her religious beliefs and provided no citations or psychological basis. she simply insisted her argument was true because the bible supposedly says so.

her entire essay is a mindless rant about how strict gender roles must be upheld and trans people are "demonic"

her writing—and i cannot stress this enough—is on par with that of a child who doesn't want to do an assignment. it's so bad i genuinely thought i was reading a satire article.

the student is a fucking college JUNIOR writing like a 10-year-old. she is also a psychology MAJOR who thinks everything in the bible is literal and that her religion is the only source anyone needs. this is someone who intends to go into mental health care. she is dangerously bigoted and ignorant, and her professor saw this and was punished for grading accordingly.

here's a line from her essay:

"Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts. The same goes for men. God created men in the image of His courage and strength, and He created women in the image of His beauty."

here's her teacher's reasoning for the grade:

I got DAMNED lucky that a Light horseman found me first and told me what happened. Laughed a little. Told me not to worry about it, he'd call it in as bogus, and have a talk with the couple. But again. I was lucky. If that had been a state cop and not a rez one, I could have been fucking shot. For walking.

Honestly, if you are not for the liberation of homeless people, if you are not for decriminalizing homelessness and all aspects of it, if you say things like, "now I support those people, but I wish I didn't have to see it, because it makes me uncomfy," you have swallowed the propaganda pill.
