It’s about women disappearing into the moors
This album really has me saying “there’s a lot to unpack here” like I’m some kind of English teacher

The painting, is complete :3
Our apologies
ann m martin, the author of the books, is an out lesbian. many of the writers and directors involved with the netflix series are black, asian, and latin women. they did their homework, cast a young trans girl to play a young trans girl, and included multiple gay children and gay parents. mary anne and dawn are both played by actresses of colour.
AND the series is smart and funny and very watchable for all ages—i tend to not really watch new shows aimed at a younger audience, but i watched all of season 1 in one day. it’s rated at 100% on rotten tomatoes right now, and that rating is well deserved.
anyways stream baby-sitters club s1 on netflix

#1 Tip for new interns
What is my number 1 tip for new interns?
Followthrough. YOU have to be the one to make sure things happen. It is up to you to make sure things happen in the hospital.
Followthrough everything, but especially if it is important.
You’d like to think that if you order something it magically happens but sadly this isn’t true. Yes, you will be waiting 3 hours for that stat lab if you don’t follow up on it, call the nurse, then the lab to make sure it happens.
If you are waiting on one more x-ray before discharging someone, YOU are the one who has to make sure it happens so the patient can go home.
Yes, you’d like to believe that your colleagues are competent but you need to follow up on everything to make sure. Yes, it’s in the note that the patient is on xyz meds but you need to check to orders to make sure they’re actually ordered for.
A task isn’t done once you’ve done the initiating step, it’s done when it is completed. Yes, you paged to let the primary team know something but until you hear a reply back from them it is not “done.”
I know this because I made all of these mistakes.
New interns: Go forth and make the hospital WERK.
Truth. No. 1 rule of intern year? Get. Shit. Done. That’s it. That’s how you perform well as an intern. Everything else will come with time and practice.
oh my god yes. that old adage “if you want something done right, do it yourself” has some application here. use your team resources but make no assumptions.
For reals. Especially first thing in the morning. Your nights person may have had 8 admits and a rapid response, he might have forgotten to check a lab or to tell you that the nurse called for haldol because Mrs. Smith in room 8 was losing her mind. Trust but verify.
I couldn’t agree more with what has been said. All I can do is echo.
Show up on time.
Do what you say you’re going to do.
And if you can’t, ask for help ASAP.
You don’t need to know all the latest medical knowledge, you don’t need to be contributing cutting edge research.
Just try your best, do your best. As Anthony Bourdain said, you can teach skills but you can’t teach character.
Yes, yes, yes. I have never been upset with an intern who told me they didn’t have the time or knowledge to do something independently. I have been furious with interns who have half-assed something important, not done something they said they’d do, or did something they said they wouldn’t. Be honest, ask for help. You don’t have to be a good doctor yet, you just have to be trustworthy.
Advice to the new interns. And,quite honestly, the extra baller med studs if they ever let y’all back in the hospital.
anyone heading back to school in the US to live on a college campus for the fall semester should uhhhhhhhhhhhh pack light and have a plan to get the hell out of dodge at a moment’s notice
this sounds jokey but i’m dead serious. if you plan on living on a college campus this fall please know that there is no amount of cleaning or “distancing” will keep COVID out of the school. these schools know that they are risking your life and the lives of their faculty by bringing people back on campus but they want your money more than they care if you live.
think about how unventilated dorm rooms are. think about how you somehow have a cold for 4 months straight at school. think about how fast the flu moves through a dorm. think about how foolish people act at when they’re drunk with friends. all it takes is one get together where 5 people remove their masks to play kings cup and the whole school is fucked.
you need a plan now. you need to pack light so you can leave quickly if necessary. you need to work out now how you will get home in the event that you need to be off campus immediately. if by some miracle you’re still there by october you can cross that bridge when you come to it. but you need to make a plan now.
As a faculty member, I am currently sitting in an hours-long training literally all about how to switch to online instruction in the (almost inevitable) event that we have to go fully online after opening up. Everyone is pissed.
If there was a sci-fi novel with a megalomaniac billionaire who was the son of an Apartheid emerald mine owner, and he was privatizing space exploration so the public no longer has a say in it...you know that would be considered bad, right? The heroes would fight to stop SpaceX.
The fact that anyone considers SpaceX as anything other than a continuation of the transfer of public sector science, that was run for the public good, into the hands of billionaires is a testament to our propaganda. Having space exploration controlled by one billionaire is bad.
Remember in the 60s when rockets launched and the credit was given to the scientists and astronauts that actually made it happen?
Now it's given to the billionaire who pillaged NASA tech and is now using it as his playground and promotion for his cars. That's bad. SpaceX is bad.
