"What do we do with the kid?" one Yiga member asks not only 30 seconds after I watched Arn- my father- and the Queen of Hyrule die right in front of me.
"We should kill him too." another Yiga member chimes in.
"No." the Yiga woman holding me still says, almost sadly.
"He's the son of a Royal Guard. You saw already how dangerous he is, Mitsuki!" the first one argues.
"Yeah! Look he's still biting you and thrashing!" the second points out.
Despite my best efforts, I could not get through the armor Mitsuki was wearing.
"Well he's just a boy! We should bring him back to the hideout. See what Master Khoga says! We could train him." Mitsuki says calmly, paying no mind to my attacks.
"Oh surrrrre and then he'll kill us because I don't know if you have dementia, but he just watched us kill his dad."
"Gordon, we need to have him understand. He WILL understand it's for the greater good. Lord Ganon will spare him. He'll then know he wouldn't have ever stood a chance if he was on the wrong side of the war."
I stop thrashing, my voice gives out, my eyes still full of tears, and my body dripping sweat from the heat. I blink slowly until I faint from a heat stroke.
A few hours later I wake up to see a woman with purplish black hair in a Yiga suit smiling a warm smile at me through thick wooden bars of a jail cell. Her eyes matched the color of her hair and there was but a sadness to those eyes.
"Good morning, Link, that's your name, right? I'm Mitsuki. I held you down earlier. I'm so-" before she could finish I jump up and run at her and stick my hand out of the jail, trying to grab her.
"Let me out! I'll- I'll fight you! I can- I can kill you! Like how you-" I started coughing hard. My throat's dry from all the yelling and crying earlier.
"Hey hey hey." Mitsuki says caringly handing me a bottle of water. "Drink. Stay quiet. You're dehydrated. You went through a lot today. I don't know when your dad and the queen last gave you something to clench your thirst."
I grab the bottle and think about how I could throw it at her head. If I did it hard enough, the glass might break and kill her instantly. But I could feel my throat drying up as I considered this, so I just pop open the bottle top and start chugging.
Mitsuki takes a sigh of relief and hands over a banana she just peeled. "This too."
I yank it from her and start eating. With every bite I tear up more and more until I burst into a full on cry.
Mitsuki sits against the cell bars and passes another bottle of water through the bars. "I know, Link, I know. I'm so sorry. If I had known they'd kill your dad, I would've stopped them. We only wanted the queen dead, he had nothing to do with it. Neither did you."
"Why did you kill my dad?" I beg for an answer despite knowing she has none to offer me, a grieving 8 year old kid.
Mitsuki looks up at the ceiling and listens to my pleas. "I had a son like you once... He died which is why I joined this clan."
I freeze. My head turns to face her voice.
"As one of the Hylian Royal Family's maids, you'd think we'd get good treatment. But, my son fell ill and died. I couldn't be there in his final moments since the royal family wanted their castle halls to be clean. They had plenty of maids, but decided they couldn't spare one. So, I joined this clan."
Mitsuki turns her head to face me. "Your dad, me, you, my son, we're just pawns to the royal family. We can dedicate our life to them, give up our lives for them, but they will never do the same in return. That's why, when Lord Ganon returns, he'll pass judgement to the Royal Family."
The cogs in my head spin and click. I don't fully get it, but I understand that she and I both lost someone.
