I have had this Link OC idea forever and now I finally have put it together!

So yes, “Forgotten” is Link and hold the Heroes spirit (though through his trauma and rejection of it, it’s very weakened).

He used to be the green, blonde, hylian hero who defeated Ganondorf and brought peace to all. But his second adventure was facing the Queen of Hyrule (not Zelda), who sought the Sheikah’s power.

Note: This takes place somewhere between Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild (keeping it vague on purpose), but the Yiga and Sheikah have split but the Yiga haven’t yet gone to the dark side. Think of it as they’re two different tribes of the same race, each with their own culture. Yiga are nomads who bring peace in all the land, Sheikah develop technology and live in Kakariko.

Forgotten’s time was changed and is still being messed with by the queen. More on that, later.

Forgotten is loyal to the Queen (or else…), and takes on the dirty things she wants done (assassination, spying, gathering information). I mean he’s great with a katana.

Was taken in by the Queen at 13 years old, is now 23 years old.

Ex-Yiga Link idea

He died loyal. Link was born worshipping Ganon. He became a knight to infiltrate the castle, and drawing that sword put him in the perfect position to bring down the royal family. His mission was to prevent the princess from unlocking her powers and he was quite proud of the results.

However, the Guardians didn't care about their allies. Friend and foe alike fell to their burning light. Link at that point was more trying to save himself than the princess. The last thing he sees is a heavenly light as he silently prays to His Lord that she's too late.

The Hero wakes up knowing nothing. He is told of a Great Evil torturing the land, and he can see the horrors it has brought. He makes friends that have suffered from the Calamity. He fights monsters and cultists and tames metal beasts. Pictured memories only show part of the story: of how great of an actor he was.

One day after all four Divine Beasts are calmed Link Remembers. Link remembers how many people are dead because of him. He remembers how he betrayed the people who cared about him. Remembers the insanity he was born into.

Defeating the Calamity is a penance. Nothing can absolve him of what he wrought, but he can save those who are still alive. Link frees the princess and vows to follow her. To cast aside his old shadows and burn them to ashes.

Recently he's remembered a legend of the Calamity being born beneath the castle. He still needs to find more information, but his birthplace has tomes in spades. Link might as well burn down every base he comes across in the meantime.
