The FCC sided with Comcast and decided to let ISPs censor the internet. The Internet needs to stop this from happening: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/tellfcc/
Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.
We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.
We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]
This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

Every day I make new monsters, lads.
I made myself a little logo. I like to think it’s clever. I had a similar one for my alt account. It’s in some of the pictures as a signature. It too had a summation op and a half of the tao.
Following a tutorial to familiarize myself with unity. I write terrible comments.
Wave shader for my graphics class. Just a bunch of sine waves, really. There was supposed to be an SDL GUI that let you mess with stuff, but I tried to it with PDEs having never taken a diff eq class, and had to rush this. In spite of that, I managed to get phong reflections in last minute.

Project Ceres Alpha Part 3
Sprint 3 retrospective... Lordy loo. What we (or I) decided to do for the remaining calculations was to get the temperature of an area with the sine of its latitude and get the amount of moisture using a cell’s distance from the coast. Totally super accurate, guys. We’d scheduled someone other than me to do the temperature algorithm, but I may as well of been speaking gibberish to the person who was tasked with it,and wound up doing it too. I said that the above little chart was our out. If our moisture was always between 0 and 1 and our temperature was always between 0 and 1, we had something that’d let us say we calculated biomes. And that’s what we went with. Alex effectively implemented save states with json files by making every class relevant to the program’s state serializable, sick boy continued to die, and the other two were well beyond trying to contribute. Lessons learned
-Art and programming I think experience the occasional parallel. The one I learned you gotta kill your babies, no matter the medium.
-Being a “hero programmer” is terrible and being on a team with one is terrible. You might as well not be on a team. If every time someone tries to contribute to a project, you tell them they did it completely wrong and redo it yourself, they’re going to act like a rational agent and not waste their time when they are once again tasked with something.
-You need to understand the software you’re making. I don’t intend to ever leave a scrum meeting confused nor do I intend to let someone leave a scrum meeting confused. The whole point of those things is that everyone knows what they’re doing and that they’re doing something. -Ask for help when you need it. No one cares if you sound like a putz for a hot minute as long as you don’t develop like a putz. -You will not receive the benefits of fast, iterative design paradigms if you let yourself get bogged down with details. Had I said, “This grid component is taking too long, let’s cut our losses and do something simpler or focus on terrain generation” then I’m pretty sure the flaws in our overlay system would have been picked out earlier and people would have spent far less time sitting on their hands.
The purpose of this post is not to make anyone feel sorry for me. I’m not trying to make excuses for mistakes I’ll make in the future or say that I now know everything about software development either. The point is that I took a little bit of initiative, a little bit of risk, and a lot of time from my life and got a far better idea of how to be a software dev coming out than I did coming in. If I had worked with the perfect team and got a scrum master that would let me nod my head in agreement and just write the code I was assigned, I would have learned far less about what makes or breaks a software development process, or at the very least, what I could do to make or break it. That isn’t to say I want to be on a sinking ship every time I open up an IDE, I’m just glad I got the titanic out of the way before being part of a software development company or game studio. I’m only ever going to be better from here on out. And to be clear, I’m not the only one to have made mistakes on this project. At the same time, however, I’m not going to gain anything by lambasting other people on a blog, so I’m just gonna leave well enough alone.
I want to revisit making this at some point, if only to give a middle finger to “No Man’s Sky” and make some money doing it.
Project Ceres Alpha Part 2 Having the entire project hinge upon my ability to get this one component done was what ultimately killed our attempt at making this software. In the end I wish I would have swallowed my pride and asked the other group members for help. I had the idea in my head that if I couldn’t do this task on my own, I wouldn’t be able to make it in software engineering. I’ve come to think of that mindset as being what makes some people bad at software engineering, so while I’m going to push myself to solve my problems on my own, if I need help from now on I’m not going to be afraid to ask for it. Two sprints in and I finally have this finished. It’s the projection of the sphere from the previous post. This gave us the ability to put images onto our sphere. The intended utility of this was to be able to project a 2d heightmap onto the sphere so that the calculations could take place on a planet rather than a plane. Other advantages were that each cell took up the same amount of area and they were equidistant from one another (this is pretty useful in strategy games), except for the pentagons. For all the waiting, however, we wound up unable to make use of these properties.
We were in to home stretch. Any process that could make use this grid I had made everyone wait for was too complicated to add in time. To make matters worse, at this point, one of our members was dealing with an auto-immune disease and another was constantly wrapped up in band. I’d become a hybrid of de-facto scrum leader and unreasonable end-user that also had a burger flipping job to deal with (this semester is one of the main reasons I stopped working there). Nevertheless, I got this done and turned to the front-end band guy to see how the node-based interface is coming along. We had decided to switch up how we thought of map objects. Originally we thought of them as “Overlays,” but I later said that it didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I then proposed a system where we kept the heightmap and the various filters planned for it (noise, tectonics, clamping, erosion) separate from the calculations being performed on it (Yay, more waiting so I can make sure you don’t ruin my precious software).
I got done making these changes and made a new branch in the repo, not merging it with the master branch due to lack of experience with source control. Because of this, the front end guy implements a non-functional node GUI for the old interface. Being the control freak I was, I stay up late for the next two nights completely re-doing the software. I gut it for anything useful and make the GUI myself. New repo as well. I then ask everyone to move the filters they had done (we had noise and erosion) to the new project. I’d gone completely mad as I reaped what I’d sewn.
