so, maybe kredly is one of my ships u know, spice
had a fascinating english class that resulted in the notes header “the forcefeminization of victor frankenstein”
what the people want, the people get
you see
my professor’s take is that mary shelley is feminizing victor throughout the novel, as a way of flipping gender roles and putting a male character through female experiences.
evidence as explained:
victor is creating life. he is putting his health at risk (spends two years with little sleep or socialization) to bring life forth into this world
his illness after he is shocked by the creature coming to life is akin to both ‘hysteria’ and postpartum depression
he pretty much swoons, let’s be honest
henry clerval, a man who has been characterized as manly and heroic, has to chase after damsel-in-distress victor and care for him as he convalesces
afterward, he hides what he did and went through, for fear that others will label him crazy and emotional and not believe him. sound familiar?
Victor in general is more emotional than the other characters and is constantly tempering his reactions to not be seen as irrational
the book does not otherwise have central female characters
Also, Shelley’s mother died in childbirth. It’s interesting, then, that Shelley presents the creation of life as something horrific and damaging. She parallels Victor with her mother.
in conclusion, Frankenstein (1818) by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley is one of the first examples of mpreg in English literature

chapter 5 huh... i remember this scene well!
Regarding Touga's age in flashbacks
Touga appears as a child in two significant flashbacks in the series: in episode 9 where he and Saionji find Utena hiding in a coffin after she just lost her parents, and in episode 10 where Nanami gives him a kitten for his birthday, with all that that ended up tragically entailing. (It may be worth noting at this early point that neither of these flashbacks are from Touga's own point of view; ep 9's is Saionji's memory of the event, and ep 10's is of course Nanami's memories.)
The assumption I've seen throughout the entire fandom is that Touga is younger in Nanami's flashback, in which he has short hair, and a bit older in the coffin flashback, in which he has long hair. It's a perfectly reasonable and logical assumption, and one that I wouldn't question either -- if not for two things.
The first of those two things is head writer Enokido's notes on Touga; to sum them up very briefly for those who don't already know, they say his unpleasant backstory as depicted in the movie was also intended to have been his series self's backstory, with some additional details included to account for Nanami and Saionji. A specific point from both these notes and the movie itself is that Touga was ordered by his original parents to grow his hair out, as that was what Mr Kiryuu wanted. If we take Enokido's comments on Touga's backstory as applicable to the series canon -- as I personally do, as it heavily informs my entire reading of Touga as a character -- then they need to be reconciled with what's depicted in the series itself in one way or another.
The second thing is simply that I noticed some curiosities in the series character design sheets, which I'll go into past the readmore. Before that, I just want to pose the question I'm exploring here in the first place:
Could Touga have actually been younger in the coffin flashback than in Nanami's flashback?
Please note that this is more of a thought experiment than anything; I'm not trying to push this as The Actual Canon Truth, even if this does inform my personal headcanons regarding Touga's (and Nanami's and Saionji's) history. I just want to put forward some bits of evidence with my own thoughts and speculation on them. Without further ado...

kris, how would you show if you liked someone?
this one didnt come to me in a dream it came to me in a nightmare
D-d-d-d-did you?
Heard this sound and had to draw them together since it is literally them.
what the hell kris
“…prove yourself more Weaver than Wyrm…”
ok ladies i know you dont really know how children work and you have decent reasons for that, being all female and having extreme difficulty reproducing and giving birth and all, and i know its more symbolic of your desperation to reinvigorate a culture that youre losing to violence and time etc etc
but unless im missing something and magic spider x pale worm god copulation has bizarre dna stuff going on i dont think thats how genetics…happen
They're living what they've learned; It's like how sometimes ppl get away from a toxic situation, but haven't completely unlearned the bad examples they were raised with. (this is also seen in how the ones back in pharloom treated EVA or the commoners under their stewardship - at first rebelling against the Monarch was more about putting themselves on the top than it was about improving the overall system)
Their attitude is a mirror image of their mother's: How she was all into having her offspring be her mirror images, be absolutely loyal to her, be what *she* needs rather than thinking of what they need.
While she'd have had no reason for it back in the Weavers' day, she would later have a similar "You have to help us take back all that's righfully ours" sentiment regarding Lace's creation. (only to treat her as an inferior consolation price once she was back in power)
By contrast Herrah had the wisdom to realize that that's fucked up actually & course corrected to be the exact opposite of that / not repeat the Monarch's mistakes.
Maybe she was tougher or wiser in disposition & able to realize it on her own, maybe she learned it from the natives of Deepnest, or maybe she started out with political plot reasons in mind, but they evaporated once she first held baby Hornet.
You can tell why Herrah was the leader of the bunch (& why her absence "cost them greatly")
and, i mean, plenty of irl ppl act in this way with no fantasy elements involved.
oh my god!!! he's... he's inlove!!!!!
this creature caught his eye:
Every crumb of kerdly in chapter 5 so far
Berdly has dialogue about writing kris love poems every febuary Kris has a unique interaction if you write their name and berdly as queen and king and show the paper to noelle Kris specifically made this dark world, so the flowers personalities are at least a little bit influenced by them- including seth. Seth is nonbinary and has traits that resemble berdly the flavour text of the feather aqua gives you references berdly kris somehow got a feather of berdly's, meaning either kris got it last night or they kept a feather of berdly's for a long time. Kris blushes when asked how they got the feather And the biggest piece IMO, berdly never visits asgore's shop and Aagore doesn't seem to know kris and berdly were ever friends. Meaning the only way seth or any of the flowers know who berdly is....is if kris regularly speaks about him to the flowers.
Chapter 5 spoilers!!!!!
I'm gonna keep it real....chapter 5 made me MORE of a Kerdly shipper, now you probably thinking I'm being lowkey delusional rn and maybe I am because we barely got on any kerdly moments this chapter. But with everything going on with Kris, and the small tidbits of moments we did get....really solidified my love for this ship. Seeing how isolated and alone Kris is, reminded me so painfully of Berdly in a similar way.
They both wear masks to protect themselves, also simultaneously pushing those close to them away while yearning for companionship. Berdly is always being left behind but...so it Kris! From the festival, to the moments in the dark world, even at home. Both of them are alone in their own friendgroups, and they don't know how to fix it because their scared.
Both of them are losing their most important person right in front of their eyes, Noelle for Berdly and Susie for Kris. It's mind boggling to think about how early on in the game, Susie and Kris latched onto each other because they were the only ones in Hometown that can truly understand one another. But now, Susie is doing better for herself. She has a community with the darkners in Castletown, her and Ralsei are growing closer, she's 'dating' Noelle and wants to invite her to the dark world so she can join their adventures. All of this is happening, and Kris is left behind in the grand scheme of it all.
It's not that they don't want Noelle to join, their afraid that slowly she'll take their place in Susie's worldview. And that's the same fear Berdly has, he fears he's easily replaceable to not only Noelle but to everyone around him. Their both lonely kids, isolated from their peers due to external and internal forces. Maybe that's why Kris is weird around Berdly, because they see a reflection of themselves in him that their afraid to acknowledge yet.
Berdly stands alone in the library or his hospital bed, and Kris stands alone in their room and the dark corridors of the school. They both have similar interest, humor, and fears. It makes sense while looking deep into this, that these two would get along so well because their practically parallels. Just as Kris feels like their losing Susie, and Berdly is losing Noelle, they can gain a new friendship and perspective from each other.
Because yes, Susie understands Kris, but what Kris needs imo is someone whose completely removed from the prophecy and the mess that is the Hometown conspiracy...and that's Berdly. And Berdly needs someone who will validate his own feelings and experience without making him feel like he has to be ironic about it. If their going to be lonely, they can at least be lonely together.
So yeah, accept this rant post as me being a passionate Kerdly shipper that just wants these two to be happy in the end. I don't expect for it to become canon, but what I truly want is for them to become good friends and I know I'm not alone in this sentiment.
