The sun rose slowly, the light leaking into your bed room through the curtain cracks. Birds began chirping as they woke from their nests.
Darcy stared out the window, the early morning sun shining in his eyes. His mind wandered to you. Every morning he would wake you, as was your wish. He would lie in bed for a few more hours before coming down to meet you in the garden for your morning walk.
You hated waking up too late in the morning, you felt as though you missed an important part of your day when you did.
Turning over to wake you he paused for a moment. He stared at your features. The morning sun shining on your disheveled hair which lined the white pillow. Your face was content and still, you were completely asleep.
Darcy hesitated, every morning he had to force himself to wake you, he did not wish to wake you if you were sleeping so soundly. This morning, he finally decided to let you sleep in. Though you would not feel the same, another hour of sleep could do no harm to your day.
So for another hour he lied peacefully next to you, watching as your chest rose and fell undisturbed by the singing birds outside. The sun rose and filled the room bringing with it a new day.
Reaching over to you, Darcy gently stroked your face, part of him hoping it would not wake you. But as his fingers brushed your soft skin he saw you stir. Slowly your eyes fluttered open. Upon seeing your husbands face, you smiled, your eyes still heavy from a good nights sleep.
He smiled at you as his finger tips brushed over your cheek to your lips “Good morning”
“Good morning” you said quietly as you stretched your body.
Seeing the sun filled room, you realized it was much later than usual when you woke. Sitting up on your elbows you looked over at your husband.
“It’s not long after eight. I didn’t want to wake you up. You just looked so peaceful”
Watching as he spoke truthfully, you pushed down your panic of having missed the first hour of your day. Seeing his content face, you could not feel angry in the slightest. Lying back down you moved closer to him and placed you head against his chest “I suppose it will not kill me to wake up late once”
“No, it will not” he responded, wrapping his arms around you and placing a kiss on the top of your head.
Smiling against his chest you closed your eyes, you would not fall back asleep, but staying in your husbands arms for a little while longer seemed like the perfect way to start your day.
