The Shape Of The Breath ~ This week in class, we've been looking at how the shape of our breath informs our movement, influencing the way we enter, occupy and leave postures. Close observation of the instinctual synergy between bodily motion and ~ Outwardly and internally, the breath is constantly mobilising, shifting and shaping the physical form. When we sit in stillness we can feel many of the body's involuntary responses to our inhalations and exhalations. For example, the rise and fall of chest, the broadening and release of ribcage. Deeper into the body, the expansion and deflation of the lungs, the lifting and lowering of the diaphragm. Deeper and more subtle still, a gentle drawing back and letting go behind the eyes. The body accommodates the breath, the breath informs the body. Perfect harmony between the two. ~ But when we move through a led class, and we need to think about hearing instruction and coordinating our movement, the mind takes over and we can loose that natural synchronicity between breath and movement. The invitation is to invite your mind to relinquish control, consciously allowing breath to guide the pace of practice, depth of posture and quality of movement. ~ One more chance to catch this class, Monday 6.30pm @triyogauk Camden.
