I shared this elsewhere the other day, but the thought keeps coming back and nudging me - this isn’t relevant to my life right now (has been many times before), so I’m hoping that sharing this will help it find someone else to bother:

It is okay to be angry at God. It is valid to express frustration, anger, disbelief, sadness and any negative emotions in prayer.

If you feel betrayed by God, left in the dust in the grand Plan He supposedly has, or if you're just plain tired of pretending to have hope and faith when things are falling apart: you can - and should - communicate about it, even if your words turn to jagged stones thrown at Her general direction.

We are the children of God, and while hope and faith and trust are beautiful, meaningful parts of our relationship with the Parents, it is important to allow ourselves to be true to how we're feeling about this mortal journey.

Children who feel safe enough to scream when they're hurting are children who know their parents will love and support them through anything. If we are to believe in kind, loving Heavenly Parents, we should stop acting like They'll only listen to nice and polite, perfect children who know how to say thank you and excuse me.

I think part of the issue is people assuming that everyone MUST want to move upwards. Like… it’s the next logical step for a person to want to move up the chain: from worker to manager, to district manager, eventually owner.

But I always think of growth like plants.

Aspens grow tall to reach the sun, for sure. But dandelions grow deep, understanding themselves fully so that if some misguided fool tries to uproot them they’d have to try damn hard. And then there’s thyme and other creeping plants, which spread themselves out so much that if you chop a part of it off it roots wherever it can find dirt to root in.

It’s okay not to have lofty dreams. You know what kind of plant you are better than anyone else.
