Since the Odyssey is trending, now is a good time to remind people that Nolan chose the city Dakhla (Western Sahara) to shoot the film, which is occupied illegally by Morocco. Many Sahrawis are calling for the boycott of this movie.
I'm pretty sure not many people are aware of the illegal occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, so I invite everyone to do some research on the subject, especially if you support the Palestinian cause, then you should also know about the Sahrawis who, like the Palestinians, never got their freedom.

On another note, y'all should also watch this YouTube video of Farya Faraji, where he talks about the west centric/eurocentric retelling of Nolan's Odyssey (very good constructive criticisms) :
Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.
I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.
Non è la prima volta che la produzione solleva un vespaio in Sicilia. A Lipari una squadra di sub sarebbe però già impegnata a bonificare i
They dumped plastic skeletons in environmentally protected areas, against the literal contracts they had to sign to get the permits to film in environmentally protected areas. Like they not only did a bad ecological thing that freaked out some divers, they literally broke environmental protection laws and their contract with the Italian government

"thalia's a rapist" *ignores varkas holding thalia down on the bed while she yells at him because she doesn't want to have sex*
"thalia's a racist" *over insults towards the palest looking characters*
ayla stans are in the trenches. pray for them if that theory comes true đđ
I'm gonna try my best to be peaceful here, I don't intend to start shit, but I don't really see how any of this helps Thalia's case, nor do I see how it makes the main ship any better?
If Varkas in fact did try to force himself on Thalia, then how is that going to convince readers that they are just a tragic, messy, but ultimately a wholesome and loving couple at the end of the day? If the intention of Kim Suji is that they are both horrible for each other, then it's at least a little more understandable, but if they're supposed to be rooted for as a couple, this whole "Well he was going to rape her back so they're even." Isn't exactly a gotcha moment, it's just solidifying that they're a toxic pairing.
I will admit that I was contributing to the racist Thalia theory mostly for shits and giggles since racism is so normalized (and in some cases, even glamourized) in many east asian comics, but the theory didn't come out of nowhere just to shame her for being an imperfect victim of abuse.
First of all, racism and xenophobia aren't limited to white people attacking people of color. White people can be, and have been throughout history, prejudiced to other white people simply because they aren't from the same country and/or continent.
Second of all, you can still say something racist or make racist jokes even if you don't actually believe that certain people aren't human because of their skin color. Racism is unfortunately very normalized in some way almost everywhere you go, to the point where most people don't even realize that they are being racist in their day to day lives, especially if they come from a privileged background.
Thalia may not have any canon racist beliefs, but what she said was still messed up.
can everyone pls sign this petition to end deportations for disabled ppl here in aotearoa? the policy is horrifically cruel and disabled ppl existing should never be considered a burden. the problem is instead a lack of funding.
the acceptable standard of health policy should not exist. no one should be forced to leave the place they call home. and literal babies and small children even are being forced away from their families. it is inhumane. we need to stop it.

I have a problem I saw Sir Edric's forehead and they are killing my boy with that Bowl cut. WHY ARE WE EVEN TALKING ABOUT VARKAS?
I'll pretend Thalia faked his death and she ran away with Sir Edric far away from her awful family, useless husband and stupid Sykan region. It doesn't have to be romantic or something, just the only one that really really care about her and her feelings, that did his fucking job to understand her and He is the first one to gain her trust, they are soulmates (it could be platonic)

Trash vs Garbage but Andrew in Drag of these two with the drag being Thalia because how do you love her since the beginning but think Gareth is a dick. I say it might be internalized homophobia
Similarities of Gareth & Thalia as to why I came to this conclusion:
-(Extremely) judgmental people, often resorting to violence in anger when irritated
-Children of neglect and have violence as a defense mechanism
-Extremely insecure of their deep rooted sense of self, afraid of being judged by it (Thalia being illegitimate, Gareth for his incestuous tendencies) and use again violence to cope
-Misogynistic
-Extravagantly vain and demanding
-Groomed by Senevier (Headcanon but I wholeheartedly believe this, it's the only reasonable explanation to Gareth entire existence)
-(Probably for Gareth) Envious and insecure to their perfect siblings
-Doesn't understand Varkas at all (and Gareth tried đđ)
do you think ana was actually a tyrant in wmmap? i mean, he was the emperor for a short time, maybe less than a year -at least for the timeline to make sense- and it doesn't seem like claude was that good of a ruler anyway - maybe he was the only obelian and the royal family in general practiced kinslaying for the throne? lmao
Genuinely, at least manhwa-wise, I donât think itâs possible sobs
Hell, when Claudeâs mom speaks to him before passing away, she still refers to him as âPrinceâ, rather than âEmperorâ or âYour Majestyâ.
As Aeternitas had successfully wrapped himself in Anaâs head at the time, this wouldâve been right before the coup I imagine, since Claudeâs Motherâs death was what made Claude rebel in the first place. Iâve started to think that the âprevious tyrant emperorâ could possibly have been their father, rather than Ana. Disregarding how quick Anaâs empirical reign wouldâve been, Ana never seemed to show the same cruelty Claude had when it came to those beneath him. When given the opportunity to kill (even while being goaded on by his supporter/ally), he turns away from it. The one who makes the final decision to brainwash/mind break Roger in ch.84 is Aeternitas, shown via the red eyes and red lighting vs Anaâs blue eyes and blue lighting.
Aetti even goes on to say Ana is prone to hesitation, and being soft. Cruelty doesnât come naturally to Ana (his behavior and actions toward Athy and Claude are a result of him genuinely believing they are shrewd and nefarious (as a byproduct of Aeternitasâ grooming and influence), seen with the image below in Anaâs POV), and if done is always the last resort (in the sidestories, heâs even the one to tell Claude to hold back/go easy on the criminal commonersâwhich doesnât fit the narrative put out that he was supposed to be a tyrant towards the people, and Claude was the âjustâ Emperor who was âkindâ to the people). I just canât see this person as someone who can be such a horrible tyrant enough to be renowned as one for the maybe 1-2 years he couldâve realistically been an emperor.
But their fatherâwho betrayed his legal wifeâs trust, the wife who seemed to have been the reason and aided his ascendancy to the throne in the first place, slept and neglected/mistreated a maid and seemed to pit his children against each other while turning a blind eye to further neglect and abuse toward the son he had just accepted and acknowledged in the fight for the throneâseems much more likely for tyrant and abusive behavior, instead of Ana. So Iâm much more partial to the idea of the âprevious tyrant emperorâ in the history books referring to their father, or the classic old âthe winner writes historyâ and Claude just recorded the series of events as such.
After all, in Claudeâs perspective, since he doesnât do anything to commoners (yet) and does the bare minimum of paperwork while mistreating and threatening nobles (yet is still aware of and does nothing about the human trafficking(?) between nobles, as brought up by @sharper-than-a-serpents-toothâŚ), coupled with his innate distrust and resentment towards nobility and royalty in general, he must think heâs a saint compared to the previous ones despite all evidence pointing otherwise, as he immediately assumes the commoner dancer he invited into the palace for his birthday banquet was a spy and he should kill herâŚ
TLDR; no I donât think Ana couldâve been a tyrant given the presented information. I scarcely even believe he was emperor tbh given the quick succession of events, but the nobles seem aware he was the previous emperor at some point in time, meaning he at least served somehow. How quick? And what he couldâve done in that time? No clue, but I find it hard to believe he was a tyrant.
part of what makes Varkas falling for Talia so unrealistic (besides him being emotionally crippled and her being the most annoying bitch in the palace) is that their abusive relationship so far is only abusive. There is no phrase where Talia love bombs Varkas, gifts him things, is physically affectionate, comforts him after hurting him, apologizes with tears in her eyes etc. which is usually what binds the victim to their abuser and makes them believe in their goodness and the possibility of them being redeemed by love. Talia only shows Varkas her ugliest side and somehow he falls for the dehumanization, the violence, the stalking and sexual harrassment. Even Talia/Varkas as a portrayal of an abusive relationship it is unbelievable as it is missing these crucial elements. Where are the heights of the roller coaster ride? I only see the lows.
Rather than having interest in Varkas as a person and his past, Talia seems to reject everything of him that isn't about her and tries to force him into the role of someone whose only purpose it to serve her and respond to her emotional needs. I fail to see where this magical connection is coming from that the author is insistent on selling me. Do Varkas and Talia have similar tastes, interests and aspirations? We don't know, because the author has not cared enough to develop their personalities. Readers are falling into the too common trap of mistakening a character's trauma for depth. Talia has virtually no hobbies except for stalking Varkas and making her sister's life miserable. She is a fairly one dimensional character.
You could have taken Talia's starvation/sickness as a child as a motivation for her to learn about edible plants and medical herbs. The best healers make the best poisoners after all. Too bad, the author forgets why Talia has access to poison and where she had learned the skill to calculate the right dosage for Ayla and dissolve it into her food without leaving a trace. It's obvious she makes things appear only when she needs them for a scene without establishing a background as to why or where they came from. Talia could have had a skill that would force Varkas to depend on her as she depends on him. That would make him, the knight, seek her out on his own. A strenght, a talent that is not her mother's beauty or her irresistable scent that drives men crazy. Something that she had taught herself and made it her own power. Talia healing Varkas after hurting him would also provide a good explanation for why he excuses her violence. He can pretend it never happened, if Talia removes any mark and he can carry on with his work afterwards. This small change should have created a few moments of tenderness and vulnerability. This made-up phrase, the hurt and then comfort, is what makes people stay in abusive relationships.
Talia has no other connections, no friends, no other family she's cares about either. How does she feel about physically abusing her dwarf nanny? Why did she never feel guilty for hurting her other mother figure? The nanny had been a member of Talia's household for as long as she can remember. She's a loyal servant and had served Senevier when she was young. Her only mistake was to refer to Talia by the wrong title, but that wasn't done with malice in mind, she was likely just used to referring Talia that way since she'd raised her back when she was not recognized as a princess. Yet Talia doesn't think twice and hits her for it and proceeds to abuse the only women who could have given her the maternal love she needed. Talia looks for father figures in other men, but she never looks for mother figures. She must have felt incredibly lonely, but somehow she never attempted to make friends her age. What about animals? Talia saved a baby bird in her childhood, the author could have build up on that and made Talia a misanthropic animal lover. Someone who collects injured animals or their abandoned young and nurses them to health until she has a handful of tame beasts as pets that won't leave her side. Talia making Varkas part of her animal clinic as a child would have also had a therapeutic effect on him and we could have a reason for why he developed feelings for her. Talia spends time tending to horribly abused animals and gaining their trust and in doing so she learns the skill how to treat a victim of severe childhood trauma correctly. It would have made a great bonding activity.
What about their old home? Does Varkas miss it at all? Talia did want to go back home. Again, it is a missed opportunity for them to pour out their hearts to one another and grow closer due to their shared similarity. Did she have friends or playmates at home? It is striking that she does not seem to miss anyone from her old life. Talia appears to have been a friendless girl even before she entered the palace and was ostracized by everyone there. The emptiness of her former life that is only habitated by two people (her mother & nanny) who are playing a role in her new life, suggests that the author didn't bother to write Talia like an actual person. It just feels like she materialized out of air in the first chapter and didn't have a life before Varkas. There is no one she is writing letters to, no one she's desperate to see again, no one she tries to bring with her as her page or maidservant. If the author want me to believe Talia used to be a sweet girl and the abuse made her mean and spiteful, then show me a healthy relationship she used to have that she is mourning!
It's possible to give Talia sympathic traits that aren't just trauma. Talia could have had people she loved and it would not lessen her feelings for Varkas. Talia can be a victim in need of saving and still be a woman who is allowed to have her own weapons, talents and strenght. Don't make me believe Talia is convinced she is in love with Varkas only because she had no one else. Don't make me believe Varkas fell for her because he was lobotomized by the author, because really, there is no reason for him to view her as anything other but a nuisance. Talia/Varkas fails both as a portrayal of a tragic romance and as a case study of a toxic relationship.

Hey, did y'all see this?
I saw this when running newpipe. But wait, it gets deeper. I clicked on the details buttons and it said as of today, we have 83 days left until Google rolls out this new requirement for apps inside and outside of the google play store. If any developer disagrees with their new terms and fees, they will be blocked!
I'll share some of the info below:
Looks like they're trying to nuke the remaining privacy and freedoms we have left on the internet.
What to do?
-Get your developer friends to not comply to their new guides
- Sign the open letter on the site and take action by checking out the full resources list on their website as well!
To summarize, this is all daunting especially when you feel all alone with unfair and inhumane regulations comming out faster than improvements but we got this working together!
Share the link with your friends, family and anyone who will listen!

Nothing about the original wmmap novel is that good for people to be this upset about the side stories and especially not the romance. I don't get it.
