Today a random clip of a F1nn5ter Q&A stream found its way into my feed.

Someone asked F1nn why it was that on her larger branded social media accounts she still listed herself as a femboy in some places while in more intracommunity spaces she more readily and comfortably identified as transfem.

Now, depending on who you ask that kind of question to you'll probably get a meandering answer on the complexities of how one defines their own identity. But instead F1nn gave a very quick and simple answer.

She gets less death threats or other general threats of violence from people when she calls herself a femboy vs calling herself transfem. It wasn't any deeper than that, and some people in her audience understood that, while others were confused that femboys were more palatable to cis people than transfems.

Another Clip of F1nn made its way across my feed today, she she mentioned a little bit more on the difference on being known as a Transfem streamer vs her old Femboy days.

"As soon as I came out as trans, it felt like everyone was an asshole and I had to adapt to it again...I don't know, people just don't like it if you're not [just] some funny guy."

controversial stance but i do wish i could live forever. i certainly live like i'm going to live forever. i take my time. realistically however my lifespan is dreadfully limited and there are things i've "been meaning to do" that i will never get around to. the Emoji Movie came out almost 10 years ago. in all that time on any random day i could've decided to sit down and watch it, and i did not. how many more decades will slip by like this? conceivably, it could be all the decades i have left. watching the Emoji Movie would not be, after all, a crucial use of my time. much better things to do. i could easily postpone it over and over and over until my final breath where it may not even register to me that i never did watch the Emoji Movie. no great loss, certainly; and yet i find myself intrigued by Patrick Stewart's involvement

Halimede being a satire but also saying true and helpful things is confusing. People are always saying “Satire requires a clarity of purpose and target lest it be mistaken for and contribute to that which it intends to criticize”, and I think Halimede fails to do that. Or maybe it’s obvious and I’m just obtuse.

The satire, at this point, is the idea of a cis woman who Really Does Care That Much. One who will never Quite "get it" or communicate entirely in a way that doesn't turn heads and raise eyebrows, but who does genuinely carry a ton of love for trans women in her heart, even if she expresses it awkwardly and often offensively. It's satire because it's a type of person you pretty much never actually encounter. In a real person, this behaviour would be threatening. The allyship of most cis women is often performative at best. Their faux pas can't be laughed off as lovable well-meaning stumbles, because that's not what they are, they're veiled insults used to other us. Signs that they don't Actually see you as one of their own. But being a character, Halimede is disarmed, and this behaviour is made harmless. Halimede also does not see trans women as being the same as her, but her love is real, and she often reaches the right conclusions about how their minds function and what they need. She's just also an idiot who says things you should never say to a trans girl's face. It's that lack of social sensitivity that allows her to state the quiet truths most leave unsaid.

It's a good gift guide, delivered with all the social subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face. A callout post about everything a trans woman denies herself, delivered with love.
