nightmare
Silver had a nightmare.
Upon seeing his scowling face and wrinkled eyebrows, the blue blur rushed to comfort Silver. "Hey, it's okay—” In a worried tone, Sonic whispered as though in a breeze. But before he could say anything else, he remained motionless in a familiar psychokinetic hold for a brief second. It all happened so quickly that Sonic had no time to react and went headfirst into his friend’s chest. Upon resting, he heard Silver's calm heartbeat above the softest fur he had ever felt in his entire life.
It already looked soft, but the feeling of it is even more incomparable. It's like resting on clouds or a huge cotton ball. He could probably rest on it for hours. A discomforting flush of heat burned the nape of Sonic’s neck as he jolted himself out of his daze, his mind briefly in a trance. He wasn't sure whether to be impressed by the fact that Silver had just used his powers while he was sleeping or to burrow himself further under that soft white mane. In the end, he let out an amused smile instead, finding the situation rather amusing.
"Well," Sonic thought to himself, "at least Silver is no longer having a nightmare." Sonic remained in the compromising position for a little while longer. Even more so after seeing Silver's peaceful expression with a smile that rivals the clear blue sky. Sonic let out a smile at the sight. Until Silver wakes up, he found it no problem to indulge himself in burying his face in that soft, white, fluffy mane.
----
A moment has passed, and the blue blur couldn't tell how many hours had gone by until he noticed movement from the hedgehog below him. When Silver's eyes suddenly opened, Sonic’s body was wrapped in a psychokinetic hold, and before he could say a word, he was raised a little higher.
Silver has woken up.
“What—Sonic?” Upon seeing Sonic, Silver’s quills significantly relaxed before using his PK powers to gently place Sonic on his lap “Why were you laying on top of me?” he continued, looking at him quizzically.
“Ah, well, you sort of dragged me,” Sonic replied as he settled comfortably on Silver's lap and continued, “with your powers while you were sleeping.”
“Oh,” Silver blinked. He then squinted his eyes as he moved his gaze downwards while caressing his muzzle. “So that’s why I felt something…heavy while I was sleeping.”
Sonic let out an awkward smile as he scratched his blue quills. "Ah, well, I’m not surprised that I felt heavy, but I hope it wasn’t too uncomfortable for you."
"It was not!" Silver butted in immediately. “It felt…comforting instead, like a hug.” He fixed his gaze on Sonic. The recipient can only stare back. "And as soon as I felt that comforting feeling, my nightmare was…"
"Was…?" Sonic urged on.
"Gone." Silver smiled, with his front teeth peeking out.
Sonic mirrored Silver’s smile, albeit a little bit more bashful than earnest, and rubbed his nose. "Glad I could help," he winked at his sleepy friend, which was endearing to witness, with Silver yawning and rubbing his eyes after the initial shock was gone. Silver's quills would droop low whenever he rubbed his eyes and it would spring back up whenever he stretched. Sonic could watch him all day.
"I slept so well," Silver did his last stretch before he looked directly at Sonic. In return, the blue blur huffed a laugh and leaned comfortably with a teasing look. "No surprise there; you were sleeping so soundly that I'm afraid if I were to go, you'll go back to having nightmares again." As expected, Silver took the teasing at face value and tilted his head, his ears flicking ever so slightly. "Obviously. I think I might want to sleep with you from now on if this becomes an occurrence," he nodded to himself as he considered the idea seriously.
Sonic blinked.
And sighed, albeit a little bit more fondly than he expected it to be. He straightened his posture then leaned backwards with two arms supporting his core and smiled at Silver. “Sure, I could work with that. But I prefer you not having nightmares in the first place” he countered. Silver merely smiled, resembling the smile he had when he was sleeping underneath Sonic. I prefer seeing this smile too, Sonic thought while returning his friend's smile.
Time has gone by. It was slow and peaceful in the morning with two hedgehogs chatting idly about anything and everything.
