Zia vs Zia (1967) TFT archives collection TFT Issue: 02 Jun 2017 In 1966 General Zia-ul Haq, then a lieutenant colonel, became commanding officer (CO) of the 22 Cavalry in Multan. He is photographed here with his adjutant, Lt Zia Mehmood (2nd War Course). A rather amusing anecdote about the two Zias was conveyed in a Native Pakistan blog post by a Lt Col (retd) Sajid Majeed Bhatti, AC (47th PMA), who was commissioned in the 22 Cavalry in 1971: One day a girlfriend of [the adjutant] Lt Zia rang up the regiment and unfortunately the phone was picked up by the CO, who said, “Assalam-o Alaikum! Col. Zia speaking.” The girl thought that it was Lt Zia Mehmood speaking with a changed voice. She started making fun of him and said, “Yes, yes, till yesterday you were Lt Zia and today you have become Col Zia. I am pretty sure that tomorrow you will say, I am General Zia.” Lt. Col. Zia told the girl: “I have recognized you and will talk to your father in the evening.” She hurriedly hung up. The CO asked for the adjutant but was told that he had gone to the garages. After sometime, Lt. Col. Zia went to the garages to get hold of Lt. Zia. In the meantime, Lt. Zia had come to know what had happened and he ran to the unit lines. It was after quite some time, when the CO had cooled down, that Lt Zia picked up the courage to face him. The image was contributed by Maj Agha Farrukh S Khan (57 PMA).

Jordan Times is the only English news paper in Jordan. On 13 February 2017 it published news on Kashmir about killed Kashmiris as rebel, militant and terrorists while calling killed Hindu soldiers as martyr. Embassy of Pakistan registered a complaint with Chief Editor of Jordan Times as under. Dear Editor, This is what Indian 'Hindu' writers are writing about Kashmiri Muslims. http://www.nationalheraldindia.com/news/2017/02/24/kavita-krishnan-an-open-letter-to-the-army-chief-why-do-kashmiri-youth-and-women-pick-up-stones-and-guns And I am shocked to see Jordan Times on 13 Feb news paper mentioning Kashmiris who are fighting for their freedom and being killed by Indian forces as terrorists. The news paper called Muslims who are fighting for their right of self determination in line with UN Security Council resolution killed by Indian forces on 12 Feb as rebel in fourth line, fifth line as militant and seventh line as terrorists. Irony does not finish here. In same news on the tenth line the Hindu soldiers of Indian army killed are called shaheed. How this error of grave nature can go unnoticed from person like you. I leave rest to your judgment. Please look in to it. In response Jordan Times sent the Embassy of Pakistan three links of Dawn Pakistan using exactly same term rebel, militant and terrorist for Kashmiri people and martyr for Indian Hindu soldiers as under. https://www.dawn.com/news/1314495 https://www.dawn.com/news/1269716 https://www.dawn.com/news/1316525 We need to put our house in order. Rawalpindi - April 10, 2017: Indian RAW Agent / Naval ofﬁcer 41558Z Commander Kulbushan Sudhir Jadhav alias Hussein Mubarak Patel was arrested on March 3, 2016 through a Counter Intelligence Operation from Mashkel, Balochistan, for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan. The spy has been tried through Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under Pakistan Army Act (PAA) and awarded death sentence. Today COAS, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has conﬁrmed his death sentence awarded by FGCM. RAW agent Commander Kulbushan Sudhir Jadhav was tried by FGCM under section 59 of Pakistan Army Act (PAA) 1952 and Section 3 of ofﬁcial Secret Act of 1923. FGCM found Kulbushan SudhirYadhav guilty of all the charges. He confessed before a Magistrate and the Court that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organize espionage / sabotage activities aiming to destabilize and wage war against Pakistan by impeding the efforts of Law Enforcement Agencies for restoring peace in Balochistan and Karachi. The accused was provided with defending ofﬁcer as per legal provisions.

Your hatred of Pakistan Army started the day you were rejected in Army selection process. You said 100% credit of Karachi operation goes to Nawaz Sharif. General Raheel is an ordinary man and an ordinary general. Peace returned to Karachi after 23 years as a result of operation started by the bold decision of General Raheel Shareef and Pakistan Army, Rangers. All credit therefore goes to them and no one else. General Raheel Shareef was the Best Army Chief produced by Pakistan Army since Independence. He was highly respected in China, US, UK, Russia and other countries. The closer emerging ties with Russia is the direct result of General Raheel's visits to Russia and visits of Russian Army Chief too Pakistan. No other Army Chief had so rapidly visited forward troops during Operations in FATA, along LOC and elsewhere as did General Raheel Shareef. Day in day out he used to leave early morning for the far flung areas. His stamina and dedication was baffling. He exuded an air of confidence, shook hands with Officers and Jawans in each and every visit. Pakistan Army, Pakistani nation loved and admired him. He totally outclassed Indian Army Chief General Sihag. He met senior most officials of arrogant US with ease and confidence. Khalid Umar 7 April 2017
