Unsurprisingly, many of the disgustingly homophobic bigots who’ve disparaged JB’s (brilliant) portrayal of Anthony, are also the perpetrators of blatantly racist sexual objectification and fetishization towards RJP.
Many of the creators who cite phrases such as/like: “perfect buttocks” or “erotic spoon licking” as their ENTIRE/ONLY sentiment, (in regards to what they believe RJP brought to S1), also cite intrinsically homophobic rhetoric as to why they feel JB “shouldn’t play Anthony.”
BOTH of these intelligent, thoughtful, considerate, stunningly gorgeous and brilliant men are competent and complex actors/artists.
We all fucking saw the monologue RJP delivered in the scene where Saphne plead their case to the queen to acquire the license. (And while he looked gorgeous doing it), the INTRICACY of the vocal and physical emotion performed by RJP is unequivocal proof that his extensive artistry, (and not simply attractiveness) is how his contribution benefited the scene and season.
JB is an AWARD-WINNING actor. Just because he, a homosexual man is playing a heterosexual role, doesn’t mean that his intimate perception of the character is somehow lessened by the differences in sexual identity. His performance is revelatory and soulfully nuanced. I can't comprehend anyone else playing the role with the same amount of humanity, strength and heartbreaking awareness that JB does.
NEWS FLASH: to win awards for professional capability, you have to be deeply skilled at executing the aforementioned profession.
