Saint, of the Dragonslayers, in Worm, is kind of fascinating. Because, his interlude really does make you see his perspective, and almost agree with him. We've seen enough of Dragon to know (or maybe hope) he's wrong, but my god, his perspective makes sense in his interlude.

And to be fair, concern about an AI is... valid. I'm rather terrified of the idea of AI even a tenth as capable of Dragon ever getting made. We have the advantage of knowing Dragon is Good People™ but...

On the other hand, the way Saint justifies it all to himself is fascinating, and at it's core, at his core, I think what's really interesting about him is that... I think he's pissed he's not a normal cape. I think he's so goddamn furious he never triggered.

I think Geoffrey Pellick wants more than anything else, to be special. to be capital I important. And so when he happened upon Ascalon by accident, he found the chance to make his dreams true. I don't think he realizes it, but...

I think he 100% is in this, at the end of the day, because he's found a way to be special, and he's taking it.

"comparing apples and oranges" has always been funny to me as an expression because people's go to exampe of two things so radically different that they defy any useful comparison are apples. and oranges. like you would struggle to find a more comparable pair of objects than that. theyre literally sold right next to each other in most stores.

I actually like apples and oranges because the fact that they're both fruits is relevant in useage IME - but they're still fruits that have very different flavor profiles and are used and consumed in sometimes very different ways.

And an orange is rarely fungible for an apple - either as the fruits or like, the juice. I don't think you could really sub apple juice in for orange juice, for instance.

Some things, for all that they're in the same category, are pretty different in the specific context of discussion

There is a place for originality in fanfiction. For doing stories that haven't been done, for branching out and going far off the canon.

At the same time, we're all here because we like the canon, or at least something in it. Being too original is just writing Original fiction, not fanfiction.

I love the Masked Empire as a book, I really do, but there's a few moments where the characters are so stupid in ways that honestly don't feel earned.

Michel freaks out when the bard figured he was part-elf, but like... no? She can't prove it. All she has is her supposition. Michel can just say 'that's bullshit'. The rumor will still hurt, and the proof that he's a commoner will too, sure, but she can't prove his elfness at all.

When I think of Silco, I sometimes wonder what his endgame for Zaun was, long term, what it would look like, and I sometimes wonder, in my more charitable moments, if he was kind of like the Operative, from Serenity.

Be wanted to build his better world, but he knew that there'd be no place for him there, come the other side.

More often though, I think that whatever his motives, he also wanted power, and wouldn't be willing to lose it no matter what.

I love my major characters struggling with or in denial of their deepest shortcomings, so I like to envision Silco as a man clinging to the memory of himself as a high-minded revolutionary and his worst outbursts in the present day against Piltover are mostly borne from nights when he could no longer excuse away the extent to which he’s stagnated into a glorified kingpin. He believes in an uplifted Zaun, recognizes in his hindbrain that he’s not a fit man to belong in that vision like you say, and reconciles those two views through a subconscious deathwish. Ideally he’d be martyred in the final fight to secure independence and recognition, more likely he’ll croak from stress-induced heart failure and a successor will hopefully steer the ship he’s built into cleaner waters. Either way he’s accepted his own damnation and thus feels little qualm in digging himself deeper into his rut until his number is called.

Peace is good. peace is preferable.

But if the other side isn't operating in good faith, can't be trusted, won't make a deal... you have to at least prepare for a fight.

Can preparation create fights simply by the mutual threats they propose? Yes. But sadly... sometimes that is what you have to risk.

Mel's general (bar that one moment in episode 7) emphasis on peace is valid, but she definitely takes it too far sometimes.

People talk about what they'd do if they were a horror movie protagonist, but you couldn't do that with horror games. Movies may be dictated by the writing, but in games, doing the sensible thing is almost always impossible. You can't just make your guy get back in the car and drive home instead of entering the scary abandoned mansion unless the developers included it as a fun easter egg early ending, and they probably didn't. If you were in a horror video game, you could walk up to your car, you could try to leave, but the prompt to open the door and put the keys back into the ignition will never come. Your hands will stay at your side until you finally realize there's truly nothing you can do than go through with the plot.
