We've all seen the Adrian designs and the #rocky mate bad as hell statement, both of which I adore. I love that we as a fandom have agreed that Adrian is an absolute catch, but, and stay with me for this, what if they weren't?

We've decided that Adrian is a big, pretty blue/green rock who Rocky is obsessed with, and Grace is intimidated by, but in the same way that we sometimes find hot people intimidating. The complex color, the way light reflects off of the geode structure, and the patterns you can see underneath. Absolutely beautiful, but would Eridians have the same society beauty conventions? They don't perceive color or light, and those inner patterns, depending on the geode, are often viewed as imperfections by collectors. Would Eridians also see those inner imperfections and view them as not attractive?

Much like we are supposed to look at Ryan freaking Gosling as Grace and interpret him as somewhat of a loser within the world of the movie, within the Eridian society, Adrian is considered a catch for many reasons, their size for one, but being attractive is not one of them. The uneven mineral deposits and the way their surfaces are angled affect the way sound bounces of them. It's not necessarily unpleasant, just not overly desirable. Adrian is just as typical as any other Eridian, but they are compared to impossible beauty standards that so few actually meet.

Of course, Rocky thinks Adrian is hot as hell, but he is in the minority, claims everyone else is stupid, so when Rocky brings home this leaky space blob, who seems transfixed by Adrian, Adrian thinks Grace is just being polite towards them for Rocky's sake, but the more time they spend around him, the more genuine they realize he is.

This alien can perceive things that none of their species can, and the blob says everything about them from their color, to the light reflections, to how their inner patterns seem to dance when they move, none of which Adrian can actually comprehend, makes them stunning to look at. Mesmerizing even. Yes, Rocky thinks Adrian is beautiful, but Adrian acknowledges a certain amount of bias there, but this foreign being, whose standards of what is attractive are just as incomprehensible as he is, says they are beautiful in ways that no one but he will ever be able to perceive. Adrian can't help but do whatever the Eridian equivalent of blushing is.

^ simon is making it up to rocky, helping him fix rocky's bed. this takes MUCH less time to do than when grace initially helped build it, despite 1 less limb in the equation

^ simon and grace are divvying up the clothes they have, seeing who gets what and which clothes they're gonna share. simon basically says "whatever" to "owning" any of the clothes options, despite grace's best effort to get simon to claim some clothes for his own

^ grace and rocky have a show they've been watching episodically day by day (just as an activity for them to look forward to and not go stir crazy), and damn them if some blood covered mutant human is gonna break their streak. you can headcannon for yourself what show it is

Theories: 1. They're an independent group of scientists that are paid to do illegal experiments by 3rd parties. Explains why they're lying about their experiments (you can't just "save stars") and maybe Rocky (Robot made by Grace? ACTUAL alien?) Will likely do psychological experiments on me, may have already started. Keep on your toes.

2. We're on the other side of the QR. Don't wanna think about this one too much, it'll hurt if it turns out to be wrong.

3. Honestly not sure about time travel. I never learned much about Earth history, but the year they're telling me (2026/2039 ad, EIC started around 1990ad I think?) makes no sense. They seemed confused when I used EIC and IMC. Our historical timelines don't match, but it's be bizarre to lie about...

"stratt does bad stuff but it was necessary" WRONG i am very far on the opinion that stratt should not be considered bad at all full stop. i think that when the entire planet is at stake, when the other train track has 8 billion people and every ecosystem in the world? nothing she does is unjustified and it's frankly hypocritical to call any of her actions evil, as if she had a choice and as if you wouldnt do the same. project hail mary was a near-impossible long shot to begin with. if it means the chance of earth's survival goes up by even a thousandth of a percentage, then yes, the person who gets sent up will be the most qualified rather than the most willing.

none of us get to impose any sort of moral or ethical judgement on eva stratt because we are not exempt from the dilemma. we are not bystanders in her trolley problem, we are tied to the tracks, and she is too, but she's the only one who can reach the lever. if nuking antarctica is what lets earth stay habitable for even a few more years then so be it. if kidnapping a goodhearted school teacher to send into a one-way mission means we have a higher chance of survival then so be it. if taking responsibilty over the project means eva stratt goes down in history as a criminal tyrant rather than a hero, then so be it; at least there will be a world for history to be passed down to.

she is not a villain, that is a train of thought that you can only have when you observe from some lofty plane as an audience. it's some real "if i were orpheus i wouldn't turn around" thinking. yes it wasn't ideal but you are missing the point

we as a society ignore rocky's jazz hands far too often. i imagine that he's literally the only one who does them and he told grace it was a cultural custom because he's always wanted to start that trend. adrian spiritually raises an eyebrow whenever he does it.

The more I think about it, the more I love it.

Middle school teacher-scientist saving the world? Not superheroes with big guns but a smart guy with a big heart?

Best friends-soulmates despite being completely different and incompatible species? Unconditional love and trust and not a single romantic subplot?

Perfect. This is just perfect. I’ve waited for so long for a movie like that to be made and be successful in monetary terms. To show big productions that we want meaningful friendships. That we value small guys being the most important person in the room. Sociopathic geniuses and overpowered superheroes are cool and interesting, but kind guy, who just tries his best? Gimme more.

Friendship being the most important relationship in someone’s life? Friendship saving everyone? Gimme more x2.

I know Grace is treasured and respected on Erid and does not live in a actual zoo but i cant stop thinking of a scenario where Grace is in a actual alien zoo and the zookeepers just throw Simon in there and in hopes that they mate. The zookeepers keep checking the monitors in hopes they are sharing the single bed (ooooh there was only one bed) but it just shows Simon trying to break out every time lol
