okay so fun fact i have epilepsy and it makes it really hard for me to do a lot of things that most ppl my age wanna do bc strobing/bright lights trigger my seizures and we have to stop what weāre doing because im seizing or i have a migraine and so many times ppl get annoyed with me when i get taken by surprise by a strobelight like???? i didnāt ask for this???? i didnāt know it was gonna happen????? please donāt get annoyed because oh boy i know im being an inconvenience please donāt make me feel worse than i already do?????? thatās my hot take
Good take.
that is indeed a very hot take
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
This is a Movie Health Community warning. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies, and does not reflect the quality of the film itself.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is fully stylized to look and feel like a living comic book. There are a lot of severe strobe effects, including some caused by abstract artistry on display throughout the whole film.
As with all other Spider-Man films, there are scenes filmed at extreme heights and speeds. Several scenes are filmed sideways or upside down, with complex motion from the cameras, including barrel rolls. There is also an effect when objects are out of focus that make them appear twice, as if watching a 3D film without the glasses.
Flashing Lights: 10/10. Motion Sickness: 10/10.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: There are a few jump scares.

Into the seizureverse
I experienced into the spiderverse today because a friend really wanted to see it and me to and I struggled to truly believe that it would be as bad as @moviehealthcommunity said.
Now⦠I apologise. It was bad. I didnāt have a seizure but let me stress two things:
First
This movie is not for children.
Despite the age rating 12+ there were a couple of children with their parents with us in this film. The young boy next to us didnāt have the time of his life. He seemed quite scared at the end. Sitting on his motherās lap and holding on to her. He might have enjoyed parts of it but he was suspiciously quiet most of the movie despite being a quite bubbly vocal lad beforeā¦
Second
My friend always told me when to close and open my eyes. But even for them it got straining.
Art and animation are amazing but the intro, a couple of fights in the beginning and the entire final fight I had to cover my eyes completely. Relying on my friend to tell me whatās going on.
In addition there are a lot of effects and scenes where flashes flickera etc turn up for short effects. Due to the bright colors they are quite intense despite being short.
The entire final fight is composed in a realm of red and blue light, colored outlines that are partly shifting add on to the intensity.
I watched marvel movies without struggle and I enjoy animation. I adore so many things they did in this movie but its a shame I will only ever get to enjoy the final fight in shape of maybe an artbook.
Donāt watch it alone. Take sb who will give you warnings or will tell you when the sequences end. Maybe.. Donāt watch it at all.
INTO THE SPIDERVERSE HAS LOTS OF FLASHING LIGHTS WITHOUT ANY WARNING
The title screen, which is around a minute long, is constantly flashing
The end scene, which is around 10 minutes, is also filled with flashing, almost without a pause
There are several instances of flashing during the movie as well, either because of the animation style or because the of the plot (sometimes both)
But just like in incredibles 2, the plot relies heavily on flashing and thereās a LOT more than in incredibles
PLEASE be careful because there is a LOT of flashing lights in this movie (and no warning)
I encourage everyone to reblog this, even if youāre not sensitive, you never know who you could save by informing them of this
Describing Pain
We spoonies all know what a joke theĀ āhappy face to sad faceā pain charts are. The great Allie Brosh made a good postĀ a few years back about the scale, but now theyāre getting more specific with likeĀ āis it more of a throbbing, or a pinching, or what?ā And it oftentimes doesnāt fit into any of these categories, so Iāve made up a few of my own for headaches:
like Palpatine is standing over you with his force lightning
like literal leeches have been planted directly on your brain and you can feel them squirming around and sucking the life out of you
like itās in a vise (pretty common one)
like I WISH it was in a vise because it feels like itās going to expand until it explodes
like some horrible giant Australia bug is sitting on the top of your head with its mandibles munching away at your forehead and the stinger in the back just going at your occipital lobe like you hurt its feelings or something*
like you just got hit in the head with a golf ball or something out of fucking nowhere
Like every photon that hits my eye is another little piece of shrapnel. Could you turn off the motherfucking lights, please?Ā
*My most common type of headache. Iām wearing her as a hat right now.
Share yours! It might help someone else identify what theyāre feeling and articulate it to a doctor.
