Perhaps on their back and like a canvas they make patterns with each angry red mark from the cigarette burning Whumpee's skin. maybe on the back of their neck, yanking their hair away when they least expect it. on their bare legs. hell, maybe even on their face. or on some more obvious places where Whumpee can remember them everywhere, like on their arms or even their hands.

"Please," Whumpee whispered, ignoring the shame boiling in their throat.

"What do you want?" Whumper looked down at them, amused.

"Make it all stop. Please." When Whumper's head cocked to the side, Whumpee looked away. "Kill me."

"Oh!" Whumper shook their head, mocking worry. "Now, you know I can't do that!" Their finger trailed up Whimpee's spine. "Where would I find such a pretty toy once again?"

Types of dog symbolism

The purse dog: a pretty, pathetic, small thing, a mere toy for humans.

The hunting/guard dog: undying loyalty, willing to commit atrocities for their master.

The house dog: sad and bored eyes, staring out the window, longing for more.

The animal testing dog: easily trusting, only to be hurt, and hurt, and hurt in vicious cycle, and they still trust you.

Whumpee growing straight up addicted to what they suffer at the hands of Whumper as a means of self-destruction, so much that when Whumper eventually ends up feeling remorse for them and letting them go they refuse.

No one will ever be able to silence the overwhelming guilt and urges the way Whumper could.

“It’s not the pain, Whumpee,” Whumper said, as though explaining something simple, obvious. “It’s the control. The fact that you have no choice but to feel it, no choice but to stay here with me. You can scream all you want, beg me to stop, but none of it matters. Because I’ll keep going until I say so.”

invasion of personal space as a show of power. whumper stepping into whumpee's space when the situation doesnt require it just to show them they can. whumper passing something to whumpee by pressing it to their chest just to get close, just to tell them youre not safe here. whumper grabbing whumpee's chin so they're forced into close proximity. whumper casually draping an arm around whumpee's shoulder and pulling them close while chatting to their friends, ignoring the way whumpee tenses under their touch. its very much a power play -- a way to remind them of how easily whumper could hurt them. to remind them i'm in charge here.

Do they have a method to magically or through drugs compel whumpee to speak truthfully?

Do they torture just for the love of the game? Possibly revenge?

Or do they go, "what the fuck. Your own side left these scars??"

When the whumpee is so concussed/ drugged/ feverish/ suffering from serious blood loss that they keep zoning out.

Their mind wanders away, or their train of thoughts keeps derailing or jumping all over, or concentrating is very hard, or they almost fall asleep/ pass out every few minutes or so, or they kind of just freeze and stare into the void.

Friends and/ or caretakers keep having to wake them up or try to get them to focus.

They get worried over whumpee being unable to hold a normal conversation, or unable to fill a role or do something important expected of them. They need the whumpee awake just a little longer, perhaps even to save their live.

They keep telling whumpee: "Are you with me?" or "Whumpee, can you hear me?" or "Stay with me, whumpee." or "Whumpee, please, you have to focus!"

Maybe caretakers and or friends are resigned to the possibility whumpee is not lucid enough for now and cannot help. Or resigned to try again later when the fever gets better, or the blood volume gets restored, or the drugs wear off.

Maybe whumpee is fully aware of how much they keep zoning out. They can feel guilty about it, or try harder in vain, or get very confused or worried. They can be in denial about it or unhappy about not being allowed to rest/ pass out

Shock collar

"Try to take it off?" Whumper's thumb is on the button. "Shock."

Whumpee stays silent.

"Get too close to the remote?" Whumper holds it up. "Shock."

Whumpee flinches slightly.

"Disobey me?"

Whumper presses the button.

Whumpee sighing in relief as whumper finally deigns to put a hand in their hair, signalling that it's over for now. They did well enough, endured what was necessary.

Maybe whumper even offers them a hug or other such comfort through closeness- whumpee accepts gladly. The soft moments almost make what came before feel worth it.

i dreamt a serial killer was trying to get me and one way he signalled to me that he had been in my home was that he took a mug from upstairs. and i was like huh. someone took my mug. someones been in my home. scary enough, right? well i went looking for said mug and couldnt find it anywhere. so i went down even to the basement to find it, and it was right there on the table. and i remember this absolutely suffocating feeling of... this person has gone through my entire home. from upstairs to the basement. and hes sending that exact message. anyway whumpers should invade whumpees privacy that way more often

Instead of trying to fight, new whumpee watches compliant whumpee closely, and tries to match their behaviour. The quicker they can figure out the rules in this place, the better.

Ooh and they’re better at it than compliant whumpee (cause they’re not as exhausted, they’re not so broken already, and they didn’t have to have it beaten into them). It spurs on such jealousy, possibly even downright hatred, the fear of being replaced, the consequences of being really and truly at the bottom of the social ladder.

New Whumpee understands, but they have to keep this up for a way out, they try not to take it personally, try to help Whumpee out wherever they can but it just makes them more upset.

Till they’re finally about to escape, and they drag whumpee along with them, hand clamped over their mouth because they were getting them out too, whether they were willing or not. In the getaway car, Whumpee is trying to make sense of all their conflicting emotions, watching New Whumpee, now closer to a Caretaker, flying down the road at almost double the speed limit.

I love a defiant whumpee that slowly loses steam over the course of captivity, but never gets less defiant.

Starting out biting and kicking and screaming, lashing out at anyone who gets close like a rabid dog.

When they run out of energy to thrash, they’re spitting insults, hurling threats and curses at everyone in earshot.

By the time they can’t shout anymore, they’re sneering and flipping the bird at anyone who can see them.

Once all they can do is lift their head, they raise up just enough to glare and spit blood at their captor.

Whumpee who was never allowed to think for themself being forced to slowly start making decisions because Caretaker wants them to be their own person.

Caretaker starts off with very small things, always asking This or That questions to keep it easier on Whumpee who clearly doesnt want to do this. "Do you want to sleep on the bed or the floor?", "Would you like eggs or waffles for breakfast?", "Do you want to wear a hoodie or a T-shirt?" - All things that should be easy questions.

Except they're not easy for Whumpee. Every question asked is followed by 5 minutes of silence while Whumpee tries to figure out what Caretaker wants them to say, wanting to make sure they do whatever is "right".

Caretaker respects every choice they make. Whumpee chooses to sit on the floor to eat instead of at the table? Great. Everyone will sit on the floor with Whumpee now. Whumpee wants to wear a hoodie even though it's sweltering outside? No problem. The air conditioner will be on blast.

The first time Whumpee asks for something without being prompted by Caretaker feels like a miracle.
