Modern BloodyMary au except they both keep their tragic pasts. Simon escaped from a violent cult and almost died and Grace got onto a research project that ended up almost killing him, wound up being illegal and was administered that amnesiac French drug and kidnapped where he met Rocky and they both escaped together.

They are all trying to live a normal life and Simon and Grace are both trying to fool the other into thinking they are sooooo normal. They’re like the most normal guy. And terrified the other will find out their sketchy past and get freaked out.

Imagine Grace ranting about his crush on Simon OR Rocky figuring it out and pressing him on it either way Rocky's like "why the fuck are you just sitting there go tell him what's the risk?" and Grace has to explain to him the concept of someone VERY LIKELY not being attracted to him because of gender and this confuses the fuck out of Rocky the genderless alien and he's like "god humans are so in efficient as a species why have multiple genders if you can't have multiple combinations???" and then maybe also Grace has to explain the concept of also alot of other humans hate you if you try the other combinations and in a lot of places on earth it's illegal and Rocky's just banging his head against the wall.

Simon Lung who is used to camaraderie with his brothers and sisters on Eden. Simon who thinks nothing of wrapping an arm around his friends' shoulders or leaning on people just to see what they're doing. Who playfully shoved his brothers when they said something stupid.

Ryland Grace, who comes from the United States. Where if you don't have a romantic partner, you have to hope your friends don't think its gay to hug people. Grace who is a little uncomfortable when people bump into him because people are warm and he's used to the cold. Grace whose last human contact in years was being pinned down and forced into a medically induced coma.

Then one day they end up together in a biodome. Simon casually uses Grace's shoulder as an arm rest, and Grace promptly has a heart attack about it.
